Is 17,000 Units success ............I would say yes........vs BMW , Audi and Lexus

I'd say it's a success.

The comment in the article about buyers favoring the 3.3 over the 2.0 is misleading though as the 2.0 hasn't even been available for a full year. With the 2.0 available now i'd say this figure will be quite a bit higher for 2019, although it will likely somewhat cannibalize Optima sales so not sure unit wise how much further ahead Kia will be.

The Canadian sales numbers might be posted on this forum already. Thought I read about them a while back. An electric version sounds interesting. Curious what the performance will be but not sure Kia would be the brand i'd choose for my first electric vehicle...

Was the “KIA” Stinger hard to pick because of the brand? The KIA Soul and Niro electric versions are making big news in the automotive world.

'2018 was a rather flat year' for total sales vs. 2017 is quite an understatement. They sold almost 600,000 cars in each of 2017 and 2018, and the difference in volume year over year was five cars ... wow. o_O

I’d be less optimistic as the 17k were front loaded in year. And they are no where close to other volume GT sedans from well established brands.

The Stinger is more like Kia's "Halo" car than anything. It doesn't need to make the bean counters happy or move huge numbers. Nissan is barely selling the GTR but that isn't going anywhere. Mazda is having a hard time moving the Miata but they'll keep at least this ND generatio going for a whle yet. It's meant to change the perception of the brand, get people into showrooms, get people talking and taking both itself and Kia more seriously and I think this car has done that.

Haha, KIA should pay us for driving this car! I just passed 4K miles on my 2019 GT2 and on maybe all but 4-6 of my fuel ups, I have been approached, asked questions and people have taken photos of my car. We are a rolling advertisement for the brand.

at 17,000 units sold vs the BMW,Audi and Lexus segment competitors ( units sold ) the Stinger was a homerun !!

I was a K900 owner before the Stinger, was the first person in western Canada to own one, I have never seen another K900 on the roads. I seen four different Stingers just this week, in my view the Stinger is a great success for KIA, it’s been recommended by a lots of reviewers and as a great community of owners supportive of it. Long story short, I agree with you.

the 17,000 is US only , where the 2L was available all year ................The Kia Canada sales were released but they did not break it down by individual models aside fron the highlighted volumes of the big models , Sorento , Soul , Sportage etc

This was posted in the Stingers Down Under Section in the thread Who Woulda Thought it, with thanks to @GBgb.

With Australia being a small population these are the figures posted, Kia projected about 2-2.5k Stinger sales for the first year in OZ & as they fell short it is now confirmed by some as an abject failure.

The first 2 columns reflect monthly sales of (1st) 2018 & (2nd) 2017
The last 2 columns reflect yearly sales of (3rd) 2018 & (4th) 2017

No, not really. I’m not a brand loyalist so If I were looking for something electric I’d likely go with a brand that has a solid track record with electric vehicles. Both the Niro and Soul electrics are relatively new. I’m sure they’re solid vehicles now but time will tell.

So, you're the guy that bought one... Must be among the worst marketed cars ever. The dealer here had one that languished in the showroom for a couple of years, just taking up space. Just curious, how was the K900?

One smooth ride, had some features I wish came in the Stinger. Girlfriend miss the soft close doors, she always forgets the Stinger doors don’t pull in on there own, lol.

Something Kia forgets is luxury cars are ...well luxury purchases. Nothing says you have made it to status of luxury car purschase like a Kia. ...not

This is why all well established manufactures create luxury divisions. GM has Cadillac , Ford has Lincoln, Toyota has Lexus, Nissan has Infiniti . VW has Audi and Porsche. Fiat has Ferrari and Alfa.

Genesis hasn’t really proven itself as a true luxury brand yet. Their cars are viewed as discounted luxuary cars. Again another fail as most luxury buyers don’t want people to think “oh the Jones bought one of those cheap luxury cars”. Lol

I’ve never been attracted to luxury brands for sedans or SUVs. In fact quite opposite. I love my Mercedes designed Dodge. I get German engineering with out the social baggage of Mercedes.

So guess I was perfect Stinger demographic but man do I hate dealer support of this car. Suspect dealers are going to be biggest issue to future Stinger sales.

GTR is a hand built super car that sells for well over $100k. It’s won racing series over the entire world and very well known . Documentaries done on the car. Nissan Motorsport division is a big part of Nissans brand image. They use GTR race cars as part of their company brand across the world.

Hard to compare mass produced Stinger to GTR as a “halo” car.

When Kia make Stinger Coupe with 500 Hp that competes in Le Mans I’ll be there with Halo car. Stinger as it sits is just a cool GT sedan but not a halo car. I’d argue a Soul and hamsters get more people into Kia dealers than obscure Stinger.

I think you’re missing the point, the Stinger changes people's view of KIA, making it a halo car.
