Irritating humming noise.

My Porsche 981 has awful rattles an creaking noises in put the music up and don't obsess about the noise I have stopped worrying about the noise and doesn't bother me any more, now my stinger us solid quiet inside.

I went on vaca this weekend and I started to hear a humming sound in the engine around 70mph. It's the lowest at 77 mph but if I go 80+ it's gone. Any thoughts? I have a 2.0T btw with 22k miles.

It could be your inner conscience alerting you to speeding?:D.

This morning I took a slower route due to traffic backups and I experienced it for an extended period. The humming, buffeting or whatever you call that sound was present and I did feel it in my ears. It wasn't the audio system, nor the ac system, turned both off to eliminate them. It hasn't been factually proven the car has any noise cancellation system built in so I can't say this places a role. The sound was certainly present from 35 mph up to 48 mph this morning. I think I felt it more as I think I'm getting a cold so the sinuses are a bit blocked. I'm going to take it in to be checked.

I am a new Stinger owner and I'm not sure for how long. I have the same pulsing / buffeting sound as others have described. My car is a 2.0 with Bridgestone potenzas, I've had it back to the dealer and we even found the same noises on another Stinger in inventory. Someone previously described it like driving with a back window open... Most annoying at 34-47MPH then again at 60-70. Did Anyone find a resolution??

Welcome to the forum. Hope you resolve your audible irritant issues soon! This is a rare one. And I'm thinking it's more an individual driver sensitivity than an actual reverberation issue. The driver seems to be the common ingredient (e.g. your finding another one "doing it": I guess the only way to answer this question is to drive several/many and compare).

So I’ve been recently experiencing a humming noise in my car and I have no idea to what it could be or where it’s coming from. Is anyone here experiencing them same problem and have you located the cause or issue that is making the car sound like this? I have done no modificatios to the car except for Injen intakes. The humming noise happens rarely maybe twice a week.

Something rubbing on the brakes perhaps? It has a metallic sound to it.

Not hearing anything over the road noise. Sounds normal to me in video. But you said when you pressed the brakes "it stopped". So it has to be brakes related.

It would help if your video taking were more clear. I could not see you "pressing the brake", and in fact it looks like your foot stays over the gas pedal. Listening a second and third time (to the second video) I thought I was maybe hearing a kind of thump/click but not a hum.

I'd skipped over this thread till now as I wouldn't have described my issue as a hum but when I saw flysmartt's description I realized it's exactly how I would describe my issue along with the exactly the same speed ranges.
Having done a few hundred miles up and down rt2 this weekend I'd independently decided the sensation was as if a window was open, however as I also feel a mild vibration through the seat I don't believe it's entirely due to a poor door seal.
Have had my wheels checked for balance, no issues there.
I am due my first service in my 2019 GT2 (19" Pilot Sport A/S 3+) - if I learn anything I'll report back.

I’m going to say the humming/buffering noise probably has to do with air getting in someplace, so maybe a seal on the doors or something. I had this on the 2018 car but it is not present on the 2019. I had my door adjusted on the 2018 as it was out of alignment, that cut down on the road noise, but the 2019 is so much more quiet in comparison.

I had this exact same issue with my 2018 Premium. I chased after a solution for over a year and might have found the root cause. I say "might" because I traded the car for a 2019 GT1 just over a month ago and didn't want to spend any more money on something that may or may not have been the root cause. Summarizing heavily, the theory was that the sound was caused by the wheels being out of alignment from day one. Driving with the wheels out of alignment caused the tires to develop "feathering" which made the noise worse, especially at the speeds you mentioned. I got an alignment done but didn't spend the money on tires prior to trading it in. I know others have mentioned they replaced the tires and still had the issue, but I don't know of anyone that has checked their alignment AND replaced the tires.

About the other Stinger in inventory making the same noises, I've had also noticed that when shopping around for a 2019. I test drove a 2019 Premium, and three different 2019 GT1's before buying. Of the four Stingers I drove, two of them made the noise. It was more subtle than on my 2018 with feathering tires, but I literally turned the car around whilst on the test drives saying "nope!" I ended up buying one of the GT1's that didn't seem to make the noise at all, at least initially. After a few hundred miles, I started to notice it but it was extremely subtle. I had a local tire place check the alignment (I have trust issues with local Kia service departments...a whole 'nother story) and surely it was out of slightly out of alignment. Since having the alignment corrected, I don't hear the noise. I didn't drive the car out of alignment long enough for the tires to feather, so this lends some credence to the theory that the alignment is the primary issue.

All this said, I don't really know if it's just an alignment issue...just a theory. Anyone else with the issue that has recently had their alignment and tire condition checked should be able to debunk this for us.

I think there is something to this theory. Alignment would be the most common cause of uneven, "feathering" tread wear. But my car is not out of alignment. My FL tire's outer edge wore down quicker than the rest of the tread; and the FR tire was fine. The reason for the outer edge wearing faster would be the way I drive: as often as I made use of a certain cloverleaf, I would "spiritedly" try for the maximum corning speed. Obviously, the FL tire gets the brunt of this. The Tail of the Dragon finished the tire off; but I didn't know this all the way home.

C. 1,800 miles more to get home; and I had the car in for oil and filter change and all points inspection; they swapped my wheels over because I forgot to tell them not to; then the tech took a tread depth reading of the "FL" tire (which he declared "fine" at 5mm in the center), which was actually the FR now in the wrong position - because I don't swap the TSW "Watkins" directional wheels; when I discovered this mistake, I had the wheels put back on the correct side by my wheel guys: and it was they who told me that I had "feathering" on the outer edge of my FL tire. This is what I saw:

On the road trip, I had been noticing a faint "thrumming" sound that hadn't been there before. This is most likely the culprit. Since getting new PS 4S on the front the sound has apparently gone away.

Finally picked up the car last Friday and straight away had a rattle over the driver door which is being seen to on Monday(Temporarily fixed by wedging a thick piece of card in the rubber seal) but the thing that is annoying me most is while driving I have a noise which I can only compare to the sound of somebody blowing over the top of an open glass bottle. It's constant and I can feel it in my left inner ear which still feels like it needs to pop now an hour after getting out of the car it's like temporary tinnitus.
We're taking another stinger out on Monday to see if it still makes the same noise. My partner says she can hear it as a hum but everybody perceives sound differently, wonder if anybody else experiences it.
It's certainly not something I can live with for 3 years.

Bumping this up:

I am experiencing a sound with my car too that sounds like someone blowing over a glass bottle. This noise you hear (when my first tires cross the bump) happens at a constant rate throughout my drive at various intensities and it is really getting annoying.

Is this similar to what you experienced?

Not sure if my issue was the same, but believe I found the culprit...at least with my scenario.

My noise sounded like a low hum once I got to about 45-50mph...basically sounded like you were stuck behind some pickup or jeep with big ass tires in front of you. As I was washing the car, noticed some brakepad buildup on the rotors that I've never really had in other vehicles. So, went out and found a nice deserted back road, got up to 80 and did a nice hard brake down to 0. Did this twice, probably should have done it a 3rd time but it cleaned up the noise id say 80-85%, I bet a 3rd time would have knocked it out completely. Checked the rotors when I got home and they are a whole lot cleaner. So my guess is just some funky harmonics going on once the rotors get gunked up.

I can see that. I changed my rotors for slotted/drilled with ceramic pads. Never had an issue the break in for the pads was fun. Neighbors must a thought I was seeing ghosts!!

You seated your pads where the neighbors could spectate?!o_O:laugh:

Yup.....my road and the road on the other side both about an 1/8th mile long...wot then slam on the brakes......lol
