Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

why does it feel like its pushing a button or something hard under the gas pedal, when you press the gas pedal all the way to the floor. does anyone else feel that quick hard button like thing under/at the end of the gas pedal when flooring the gas pedal?

i must wash my car too much or its got slippy chemicals on it. when i use auto hold, the car still barely jumps forward sometimes, like it wants to take off.

Yes.

If you push down fully, activating the switch, the car shifts back to the lowest gear possible for the current speed, even (or perhaps specifically) in eco or comfort mode. (at least mine does)

Front your manual.

The Wireless charger can charge small items like my Galaxy Buds 2.

ALSO.

The wireless charger shuts off IMMEDIATELY when the drivers door is opened (in any gear / or park/neutral), while the car is running.
If you are idling in park - and open the door, the wireless charger shuts off - and turns back on when the drivers door is closed.

Also, it works as a small convection oven - place your item to be cooked on the wireless charger, close the cover, and in a few minutes you have a hot, crispy meal!

I found that if I use the convection charger that the AC needs to be on.

i disabled the factory charger/air fryer and stuck an aftermarket wireless charger (that actually works) on top of it ...

Setting the back vents to cool will keep that cubby cooler.

I learned you can't grab 8th gear until 75km/h (46.6mph) on flat ground. It goes back to 7th at 72km/h (44.7mph). Is this the best scenario for mileage? I still need to test 7th, I think it dogs the motor even more and the lesser wind resistance might overcome the better gear ratio 8th provides. Not that I actually care about mileage, its just fun to test the cars limits, like how slow you can set cruise control.

Not a new discovery, but I just never thought to mention it: When I'm in a parking lot or structure, my warning beeps work fine to let me know I'm about to run into something when pulling into a parking slot. But when I pull into my garage, they don't work unless I stop and shift to reverse and then immediately back into drive, and then they and the dash warning lights work fine. Kind of annoying, since I have to maneuver in between a support pole and shelving system on one side and the water heater platform on the other. Anybody know what's up?

Not sure if its on when you start the car but the "Parking Assist" disengages when you go above about 12mph, this could be why it is on when you are in a parking garage.
It automatically engages when you select reverse, and will stay engaged if you go forward up to 12mph - you have discovered this.
There is also a button you can press to engage the system, its one of those between the heated seat controls for the front seats, it has a P and a symbol to represent transmitting, pressing this means you don't need to select reverse then go back into drive.

Not sure if I have mentioned this before, but because it is slightly related to this, If you have a 2018 In the USA OR a non GT2 anywhere else in the world, if you swap in the GT2 center console buttons (Heated/ventilated, parking, auto start/stop/ect) the camera button that would normally bring up the 360 camera Works. Instead of bringing the 360 system up however, it just views the rear camera any time the car is in drive. Perfect for those early mornings in the fall/winter when the window is fogged up, or seeing how close someone is ridding your ass.

Interesting! I wonder if the buttons are switched out if we upgrade our '18s to 360 degree cameras.

everything should be plug and play. I already did the button swap on my 18, which is why I know it works in the first place.

What a strange finding.

I wonder what is different.

I thought the button was just a switch that enables or disables. Very curious what is different in the switch.

well in the USA variant of the 2018GT2's, All the software seems to be there for the 360 camera, as it wouldn't make sense to make a separate software version without it just for the USA when Canada/Mexico does have the cameras, so I imagine that the system just defaults to the rear camera view first and that's what happens to be available for the feed.

I drive under 12 mph in the lots and garages I frequent, as well as in my narrow community driveway, so I don't know why it would only be in my own garage that I have to prompt parking assist to work. The only difference in the situation is that at home, there is only minimal light from my garage door opener as I approach the wall, whereas in all the other places I park there's natural light. (I rarely if ever park in underground or enclosed structures.) Or am I misunderstanding your explanation?

Is your parking sensor turned ON? The ON/OFF lights next to each other (ISG light is on when the system is OFF: and parking sensor system light is off when the system is OFF) confused me for a while, but that was years ago: and I think that you've had your car longer than I've had mine! Brain farts must not be ruled out! (I don't post about mine, much, hah.)

Oh, yeah, definitely brain farts, all the time, but I generally don't look at any lights except the ones right in front of me. The reason I know that shifting to reverse activates the sensors is that, when my inconsiderate neighbor parks illegally in front of her garage door, thus narrowing the driveway and making it impossible for me to turn into my garage at the correct angle, I have to shift to reverse to straighten to angle the car straight in, and that's when I noticed. I can reach for the gearshift by touch, but need to look down to actually consistently hit the sensor button, hence my solution. But the main thing is that I don't understand why the same parking maneuver elsewhere, minus reversing, doesn't result in my having to activate the warnings.
