Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

According to the manual, the car will warn you when the battery in the fob is getting low. Simple CR2032 battery swap.

Let me go back to the start of this conversation: When a phone is connected to the USB Port (for example, when Apple CarPlay is in use), what are some suggested techniques to assist in remembering to remove it when leaving the car?

Going inside whichever building you parked near and realizing that you forgot your phone in the car? It's just part of the new, learned process of getting a car running and getting out of a car you've parked...

The infotainment system should remind you when you turn off the vehicle.

Which, itself, is under the launch control section.

Before the launch control section, since it's not related. The very word kickdown describes its purpose, downshifting, just like launch control describes its job, launching.

Regardless, you're at WOT before the kickdown mechanism, it's really only the most applicable during Launch, every other time it's not as useful.

Not really. You can be driving normally and use immediate full kickdown for a very agressive acceleration for takeover or if you suddenly find yourself in a dangerous situation (getting onto the highway in a tight situation with idiots around). It has nothing exclusively to do with Launch Control. You find kickdown in many cars without launch control. It's just a normal "special case downshift, high rev" thing for such occasions. Kickdown is not intended as some "I'm already full speed, I need more" thing, it's more of a "Argh, shit shit shit help I need speed NOW" mechanism in a case of danger to me.

BUT: I nearly never need it, because I'm rarely in a situation, where I'd need such an acceleration for a takeover. It would usually be a way to tight situation anyway, if I'd think I need takeover.

The kick down has been around for a long time. My 2006 Cayenne S has it (and that car does not have launch control). As mentioned above, it kicks you down an extra gear for high rev acceleration.

honestly I don't know of any car with an auto trans that DOESN'T kick down a gear with the pedal on the floor. my buddies '91 prelude did this in highschool and it would piss me off that he would yell "overdrive!" when it happened since overdrive is pretty much the opposite of dropping down a gear...

The kickdown mechanism also allows a driver to go to heavy or nearly to wide open throttle while maintaining the selected gear in manual shift mode. You can select 6th gear, push the throttle all the way down to just before it hits the kickdown mechanism, and the transmission will stay in 6th gear. If you push the throttle past the click, it will downshift to the lowest possible gear at that point. So this setup allows the driver more flexibility while using manual mode.

Are you a non-Korean living in Korea owning a Stinger??
If yes, we may be two of a quite rare kind.;)

Oh snap! Hey, glad you joined us. Sorry for a late response, was on a business trip abroad, then the new year, so haven't followed the forum at all the last couple of weeks.

I always thought I would be the only non-Korean in Korea. So happy you exist and joined the forum, with a Deep Chroma Blue also!

Where about are you? We should hang sometimes if you also in the area. I live around Konkuk university, east Seoul.

I think a few people might be getting the whole "kickdown" thing a little confused... Or maybe I'm just skimming over the discussion too quickly. When you "floor it", you get a kickdown into a lower gear. In fact, you don't even really need to floor it - just hitting the gas "hard enough" will drop a gear or two, depending on varying circumstances.

What people are referring to here is an extra inch or so of travel in the range of the gas pedal. Unless you're Hercules and every time you hit the gas hard the pedal almost goes through the floor - there's another inch of travel that you need to push harder to reach. When you do - you drop down an additional gear. That's how it's worked in cars that I've driven...

You are definitely correct. However, when you are in manual mode, you can push the throttle down to that detent, and the transmission will stay in the gear you are already in. If you push past that detent, you get your kickdown and the transmission may drop one or more gears at that point and stay in manual mode.

The mood lighting. Haha. Never saw any reviewer mention it before i bought it.

Turned it off anyway.

Yes, in the Stinger's case.
Oh and it' s quick, so quick if you were doing 70kmh and if you foot down just a little bit hard, it flies to close 100kmh or there abouts before you know it!

Damn quick!

Welcome! Why don't you like the mood lighting?

Here's a first world problem! When I press the button to fold in the side mirrors when going into my narrow garage they don't fold at exactly the same time (one seems faster than the other) and it's driving me NUTS!!!:laugh::cry:

Oh, and my dealership tried to fix my windshield washer fluid spraying the entire length of the car and they couldn't fix it!!

I thought the same!
I got my car last year and all that time I was thinking maybe I would be the only non-Korean with a Stinger.
Interesting also that we got the same color and happen to meet on the same forum.
I don't think there are other people than the two of us. The odds are too low. :D
Anyway, nice to meet you. I live in the Suwon area but distance is not a big problem and we should definitely meet some day.

Honestly, an easy "fix" for this would be to just use the washer fluid when you're going >40mph. The speed will make it so it doesn't spray up as high (it'll hit your windshield more quickly). Obviously only when it's safe to do, but that should solve your issue.

A good summer time fix.
Don’t want to do that when it’s too cold out you won’t be seeing much for long :)
