Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

btw......the oem wipers are useless in winter..
Really? How do you know that? You haven't had your Stinger long enough to go through freezing, snowy crap. Am I right?

They served me well in my first winter. Planning on them again this winter, as well.

Any ,I repeat, ANY wiper that uses the suspension style will fail It's just a matter of whether ice accumilates in the ''bridge'' section.

the stinger design does a good job of protecting the suspension of the wipers, look I've spent the vast majority of my life looking through the worst winters on earth, I know a bad design when I see one....the stinger uses a basic suspension wiper......they suck! It doesn't matter that they are on a stinger,a 'vette...or a mini cooper!! They suck, plain an simple

If you lay your rear seats down, the seatbelts WILL leave marks on the face of the seats. No matter how well you tuck them down. I learned this the hard way recently. I'll use something to pad that area in the future.
I know what you mean...mine came from the dealership creased from the seatbelts...looks awful...and they are not going away.

I wonder if some cardboard slats could be used...you know like the Chinese take out....just little squares for protection....

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I don't think it matters.....it's a design flaw, hell even cloth would show damage....for lack of a better term.

Our BMWs all come off the truck or in for service with the same "damage." And I know I"ve seen it on many other brands and models.

I'm pretty sure the material type would make a difference unless the seatbelts are cutting the seat or something. It sounds like it's leaving a crease type mark? The type of leather could potentially make a difference if so. Nappa leather is softer and more prone to this type of "damage".

wholeheartedly

Sounds like it is stretching.

After you turn the car off you have 30 seconds to hold the wiper stalk up & the wipers will move to the vertical position thus allowing you to pull them away from the windscreen, hence “park” position.

this is the dumbest thing I have seen on such a simple problem! How can you engineer a car with such great acuracy, both handling and maintaining....that the wipers can't be lifted unless they are ''parked '' upright......I'm not liking this one bit, I'll move 'em up a notch instead of pressing buttons and moving wiper switches.......wow.

Ya have to understand one thing, winters here are unforgiving, the ice cakes on the car entombing it. the blades ,if not lifted before the storm, will surely be damaged or at the very least abused. If 1 or 2 notches are not a quick fix, I'll have to live with the adjustment ''park'' wiper scenario. Thanks for the heads up, I really thought it was just my car that was well, this way for lack of a better term.

Not really a discovery, just a comment on an already-discussed issue. Today was our first day of winter here, consisting of light snow projected to last all day, falling on top of the freezing rain that came down last night. Needless to say, this makes for poor driving conditions and the need to be able to lift your wipers away from the windshield while the car sits there and has snow fall on to the warm wet windshield. As noted above, the wipers become entombed in ice otherwise.

The gist of this post, however, is to simply reinforce how nice it is to have this forum available as a resource to us. I used the search function and within a couple of minutes was able to find out how to "park" my wipers so that they could be left lifted. This is after playing around in the car for a few minutes when I first parked it this morning, trying to get the wipers to stop in the while exposed. I've been driving in winter conditions annually for nearly 40 years and confess that I would not have found a solution to this issue without this forum. So, thanks to Stinger GT SS for the post on this subject. Yeah, it's still a PITA, but at least it can be done.

BTW, my Nokian Hakkapiletta R3s worked great on the ice & snow this morning. I had to ask my co-workers how bad the roads really were, as there was no drama at all with the Stinger this morning. I used Comfort mode instead of my usual Custom (mainly Sport) mode and experienced no slipping or sliding whatsoever.

I will not leave my wipers "in the air". The very idea! Rather, if "entombed", in ice, I will run the defrost full blast until the windshield is fully ice free. Tap the wipers themselves up and down on the glass to knock loosened ice out of the wiper hoods and frames. They don't have to be raised completely out of the wiper well in order to free them up. If this anticipated procedure does not work, I will let all you all know. Otherwise, have a nice winter!

Nokian makes the best winter tires

Same for me, I would have never known this if it wasn't for this forum! We rarely have ice issues down here but I do this when washing the car, otherwise your wiper arms rub the hood pretty badly when raising them.

Just to update, the indentation mostly went away after a couple months. It's barely noticeable now.

Well it was /is a discovery for me.....my car ,my wipers......and well my shitty weather. I'm glad I had some hand in the forum ''discovery'' .
Good luck with the defrost merle, Some storms here in the northeast are down right brutal, but Ice entombment aside it also helps clearing the snow from the windscreen.....and to clear out the built in gutter at the base of said windscreen (that collects snow and ice) to the extreme. All Kia's share in this design btw......kinda sux, but whatever.....it is what it is.

Here's an idea: If I am driving away from the protection of my carport, I will roll up some bath towels and cram them into the wiper well when I park (assuming inclement, snowy or freezing rain weather). Remove the rolled towels, voila! no ice jam; wipers underneath will be completely ice-free.

Prolly be better on the ears than this!!
