Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

So I just discovered this morning that once the boot (trunk for those in America) is open if you hold down the boot release button on the key fob it will close it for you too. I’ve always just used the button inside the boot to auto close but pushed the key fob this morning just to see what happened and found another interesting discovery. Sorry if it’s already been mentioned in the other 880 posts before this one.

I’ve just noticed that my climate vents don’t match up from the front to reaf. So last night I had the heater on (hot) in the front but my back vents were blowin regular (cold air). This is the second time I noticed this. The first time it was a hot day so I had the ac on in front and I checked the back it was blowing hot air. My controls were auto and on sync. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there some other way to control the back?

The back has its own temp dial

The alternate problem is, and was another thread, the console warms up if the back heater is on warm.

You and me, bub: I didn't find out till last night that the USB, charger "pit" (center console) has a cover: I thought that lid was just a handy spot for a wallet. :D I did know about the rear climate control though.

Well, then, don't put chocolate in there.

Hatch has wires to kill the fog.

You can lock the car when inside...(engine running) but leave the car (engine running) with the fob, and you are not locking the car.

Yeah my Sorento does that and it's irritating. I'd like to be able to start it (no remote start) to heat or cool it before driving, and can't leave it unattended. Not that I live in a high crime area, but I keep a weapon in there and am conscientious about keeping it secure.

(edit: which is why my Stinger will have remote start..)

My point, plus leaving it running cools the turbo(s)....I try not to shut it off quick and never just start it and drive.......only way around it would be a remote start install

Not sure if mentioned already: I found out tonight that if you're using the auto hold feature, and try to move a little with the door open, it won't release the brakes and tells you in the cluster to close the door. Also it will automatically shift to park after a few minutes of idling.

Good job Kia.

I don't think it likes you taking off your seat belt either.

and the parking brake in drive is a no-no....it will let you know in no uncertain terms......

Has anyone ever rolled their finger over the headlights switch while flipping to high-beam and accidentally shut the lights off???

This happened to me twice. I often drive with my hands at the 'normal' 3-and-9; thumbs 'hooked' over the intersection of the inside of the wheel and cross-section. While flicking my left middle-finger out to push the high/low stalk outward, finger rolled over the switch cylinder, switching them all the way to off. The first time it happened, no big deal. Took a second or two to recover / switch 'em on, but it was on a well lit divided highway in very light traffic. Second time, a little hairier: morning commute in the pre-dawn dark; narrow tree-lined 2-lane where I just happened to be on a short s-curve. Oncoming car passed by, I flicked outward then, Yikes! Pitch dark at about 50mph! Pushed and held the stalk outward to force lights/high-beams on, recovered, switched 'em back on. Yes, kind of embarrassing to admit but wondering if anyone else has had it happen. I learned quickly to now push outward with my finger(s) well down the stalk.
