Does it only activate when you run map 8?
Yes. Although, I can change some setting to have it run one other maps. But, I’m not interested in doing that until I create a map6 for my own enjoyment. Lol

I'm also a FMIC guy. It's just another PITA to fill the boost juice every time you fill up with gas and it takes up real estate in the car (the same reason I wouldn't put a big honking subwoofer in the trunk).
Best,
It takes absolutely no space in my car.20190222_194918.webp 20190302_134106.webp

Is there any real benefit in upgrading the intercooler if you live in a cold climate?

Yes, unless you live on the North Pole or Antarctica then there can be an argument made.

Based on the fact you've got a US flag under your name.. Unless you're in Alaska there's a benefit to upgrading the intercooler.

I'm in Alaska lol

f*cking seriously.. :rofl::rofl:.

In that case...I don't know. lmfao. You could still probably knock down ambient intake temps with one but if it hardly gets warm enough to get IAT's high enough to pull timing or boost, then the question becomes if the ECU can and will account for colder intake temps below a certain threshold. I'm in no position to say it won't help but if I were you it wouldn't be very high on my priorities for modding the car compared to those of us that live in the lower 48.

Is there any good data on actual gains with FMICs with stingers? Im kind of under the impression there isn't a ton to be gained upgrading the factory one unless you're getting into squeezing out that last 5-10hp or you have every other mod already and are just running out of ways to make gains. Going too big can introduce lag and slow velocity too which can rob low end power too. Do we have any back to back Dyno charts with a Johnny Tig or similar?

Power gains are going to be much bigger with the WMI from what I have seen on other vehicles builds IMO. The temp drop is huge and instantaneous. If you're chasing max gains, I think this is the way to go over a FMIC.

Unless a car has a particularly crappy stock intercooler setup, upgrading it, by itself, won't show big gains on a dyno. The biggest gains will be lowering IATs which will enable more advanced timing and higher boost, which can make more power that way. The ability to better dissipate heat from the intake tract can also reduce the effects of heat soak so that you don't lose power from extended hard driving especially in a hot climate. Larger intercoolers and larger, hard cold-side piping also has a lower pressure drop across it which can help lower turbine speeds for a given boost pressure, assuming nothing is too oversized which, I don't see. If the Wagner intercooler doesn't cause lag issues, nothing will. Intercoolers are more of a supporting mod that requires tuning to really get the most out of, they normally won't give the ame effect as say an intake or downpipe will alone.

WMI also requires tuning as well. And yes, there's more to be gained on a dyno by WMI vs a FMIC, but can be a bit more involved than some may want to deal with in a car, especially a daily.

WMI is not only for cooling. It also increases the octane level.

It was a close poll.

Intercooler got the most votes.

I guess I will be buying an intercooler.

You already spend a shitload of your time on your car, what's refilling a tank going to hurt.

Your car + WMI would SMOKE your car + intercooler in every situation.

Why not buy both?

Why not pioneer an air to water intercooler while you're at it? :) This would greatly help heatsoak while sitting in line at the track.

Stop it !!! Shit man you are persuading me to get WMI.

I figured WMI could help more when I am tracking but the intercooler would be more beneficial for daily driving.

When I get my ecu tune the intercooler could be accounted for on the tune.

I don’t disagree with you is that is one or the other for me.

Didn’t you already have the AP intercooler?

I had the UP intercooler not the AP. Sold the UP intercooler and went back to stock.
