3.3TT Intake valves manual cleaning.

Is there a write up on how to remove the intake manifold? I read a manual on how to do it but involved draining the coolant and removing the alternator. I may have found a shop that is willing to walnut blast.
There is a spark plug video by Tork where he removes the manifold.

Honestly I thought it would be a little more complicated to get to the built up carbon. Did you replace any gaskets during this process? Might be a bored weekend job. But I'm OCD when it comes to carbon build up if I get it off. I spent a good 2 hours cleaning up an EGR system on a 6.7 because I was not satisfied.
Also 40k miles about right for a first cleaning? I'm also in 100% agreement that spraying cleaner with the engine running does absolutely nothing. If it takes a deep cleaner and/or lacquer cleaner with a hard scrub, spritzing some cleaner with it running will do jack and shit.

So how was it and how much did it cost?

Sorry for late reply. Didn't see it. That was my second time cleaning it on stinger. I kept the old gaskets. They are high quality silicone and looked good. Probably will replace them next time, just in case. Cleaning them every 40k miles looked like overkill, at least in my case. It depends on oil quality and change intervals, kind of gas you are using, how you drive...etc. So, next time I clean them, will be, when I am at 140k miles. 60k from the last cleaning. Will try to use walnut blasting, to save time, and get little bit better result.

I haven't noticed any difference. It was part of foil wrapping "mod". And my expectations for any gains from mods, without reprogramming ecu, are very, very low. So I can only hope it's <0.

Damn, the intake manifold is so nicely placed on the v6!
On the inline 4 you have to drain the coolant, remove the alternator, pcv and a bunch of pipes and wires to be able to take the manifold off.
 
(on the 2.0 inline4) Partially, yes. They had to disconnect the large cooling hose coming out of the radiator.

I’ve went to clean the throttle body with a carburetor cleaner. You need to either reflash or delete the code with JB4 to recalibrate the throttle body. Sprayed a whole can while revving.

Another update. As I hit 140k miles (60k miles from my last cleaning), it was time to do it again. To my surprise they were not very dirty at all. I don't drive hard, replace the oil every 3k miles with synthetic, and always use shell 93. Same with the spark plugs, that looked decent as well. So, looks like I should be fine for 80k or even 100k miles, before I have to do it again. @Ohiocruiser, Assuming you are spraying cleaner and chipping away at the buildup, do you have the valves closed on each cylinder as you clean or is all that stuff running down into the cylinder?
 
I know carb cleaner is not effective as this cleaning. But I’ve sprayed a whole can of it in the valves and let the car idle without reving. I bet everything was washed away into the exhaust steam didn’t worry about a thing. Even used carb cleaner on the GDI injectors to melt does the seals a bit in ease to remove them without getting them broken. Because they’re fragile if not handled well.

But ended up with a new throttle body due carb cleaning it frequently.

I think he vacuumed them out. And I take valves supposed to be fully closed or done one at a time since when you close one the other side opens.

You gotta make sure the valves are closed. Last thing you want is for all of this crap to get inside the cylinder. Plus, you have to soak the valves in cleaner for some time. I soaked them for 2 hours.
