Using the BMS intakes that came with the JB4 kit they offer and it works and sounds great!

^I like the SSR, but it most likely won't work with the G70, as we have active aero flaps that are attached to the radiator shroud. It would most likely be in the way. You cannot remove them either without a way to spoof the aero mechanism.

Here is mine during my VT Snorkels install. Their kit has a G70 specific module that the servo attaches to that fools the ECU into thinking the aero flaps are still working as intended so that you can safely remove the flaps and radiator shroud without getting a check engine light.

I must've looked at your pics 20 times...(hopes of copying the method)
Will it peel off the strut tower braces? Or if you had to remove them the barrier just comes along with 'em?
Biggest issue I see for me is zero clearance b/w passenger filter and this hose
Well not biggest, that would be my lack of mechanic skill
I partially wrapped it around the strut brace and then secured it with heat shielding tape so it doesn’t move.

The barrier I made is the heat shielding itself but it’s separate from the filters so I can take either on/off as I please.

I’m not sure you could do the same thing since your intake tubes are in a different position, however I kept adjusting my shielding until I got it to block almost all the heat from the engine. Sure you could do something similar with a little trial & error and would better than nothing.

I love my AEM intake, and I love to show it off...

Larger aFe filters. Reflective heat tape. Sounds great, great performance. Great price. Love it.

I would like to go with an oil-less filter and i had a look at my engine bay yesterday and on the driver side my K&N filter barely clears. Looks like the G70 has more space.

would appreciate if you can check the total height of your AFE filter including the flange part. My custom K&N is exactly 5.5” total height and there is less than 0.25” clearance on the driver side.

I started out with a DIY setup with filters inside and heatshield.

Now I have another DIY setup with the filters out front.

Sorry to comment on an old post, but I am curious why you switched and if you noticed any difference in sound or performance. I have the DIY and am curious about others. Thanks!
Intake temps are definitely lower. As far as sound goes not a huge difference compared to the DIY. I think i can hear the turbos whistle more with this setup and the pssss sound is not quite as loud.

I was super happy with my Agency intakes until yesterday. I noticed the rubber tubing peeling off the top rim!? These are less than a year old. I think they used a cheap inferior adhesive.

This is a great thread to help get started when looking at intakes. I have a question though for those that have been with this platform longer than me (3 weeks :)): Do any of these intakes perform better/worse than others?
When I had my MK6 Golf R, fuel trims were a big concern and really it came down to two intakes that performed well. I see the stinger doesnt have MAF, so does that mean that all of these perform relatively equal? Does it just come down to price/looks/heat shield vs no heat shield?

Yeah. They all perform virtually the same. The only difference will be sound, heat shielding and cost.

You could always Fab up a heat shield with some big aluminum sheets. Cut it to size and shape and mount at the base of the filter or something. Would be quite a bit of cutting and measuring, but after adding some rubber molding around the edges you could have a pretty dang nice and effective heat shield. Probably would weigh less than the AEM kit I bet, despite having those heavier aluminum elbows.

Just a thought.
I’m in the process of doing this. Very time consuming but I’m making great headway however I have surgery Monday so the project will have to go on the back burner for 6 weeks or so.

Anyone have the Tork Intakes, and can speak to them? Also I remember reading the JT intakes are open the back and the enclosure is pretty much just the top and the side? Can anyone confirm this?

Correct, the arrangement is to visually block sight of the pods. In some states in Australia it is illegal to have them showing, so its for aesthetics purposes only.
