Idle Stop / Go a Premature Turbo Killer?

I was surprised to learn that ISG was active in Sport Mode - who the hell wants the engine to cut out when they have deliberately set the car up for the possibility of fast starts etc? ECO and Comfort - I suppose it makes sense if you believe it does any good. I just turn it off as soon as I remember.

This vid (short for video tape, I'm so down with the kids) is from a little motor show in the UK (short for Unicycle Klingon, I'm also pretty dumb) called 5th gear.

Shows the advantages of isg.

Might put some perspective on it, or just make you hate the Megan even more.

Don't need a delay. It was already explained above that the driver controls it with brake pressure.
i wouldn't say it's not needed. most people will never know to control it with brake pressure. it would be a good feature to prolong the life of the turbos for everyone who doesn't read the manual/forums.

If you want the car to stop instead of idle because the conditions are suitable, you need to be able to get it to stop immediately. And vice versa--not stop at all if you prefer it to idle. I don't want timers or any other failed artificial intelligence trying to second guess when to shut off the engine. Read reviews of the European cars that continually shut off at the most inopportune moments...potentially dangerous and stupid. The brake pressure activated stop trigger is the perfect solution. Elegant engineering, user control...what more can you ask for?

Of course, the car should override the request to stop any time the engine or turbos would be harmed by doing so. I presume it will also idle instead of stop even for conditions like it's really hot and the A/C is on full blast trying to cool the car interior, or it's cold and the engine isn't warmed-up yet, etc. Other systems have those sorts of overrides, too.

okay. what happens? in cars i've been in with the feature it turns on and accelerates forward instantaneously when you touch the gas.

This has been mentioned by a number of people, but the manual makes no mention of it, despite having a laundry list of conditions for it to function.

I understand KIA's thought here, but I HATE IT! I go through my pre-driving checklist before I even put it in Drive (Checklist consists of turning the #%@&$ thing off!) As a mechanic, I know this is not good for an engine period, but neither is heavy traffic. Sorry for the rant, I would like a setting where I do not have to remember to turn it off every time I get into my car.

hello all I have been in the turbo game a very long time and I assume these turbos are cooled by engine coolant I also assume since tech has advanced since the 90's and are no longer oil cooled the only reason after hard running that you should let older turbos idles and cool is so the oil cooled ( older ones 90's) does not coke aka burn and turn into sludge inside the turbos oil jackets. PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong on these turbos being cooled by coolant and not oil almost 3 decades later. by no means am I a know it all so please don't take it that way I may know my turbos but I am a greenhorn when it comes to the GT or kia for that matter.
