I just bought this 2019 Kia stinger gt1 rwd. Bought it from carmax with 18,300 ish miles and they said it was a fleet vehicle before. It had a recall, 20V518. Only had it a month and I’ve put about 5.5k miles on it so far. At about 3.5k miles I was driving and the acceleration started jerking bad. Got to work and parked it and the rpms just started going up so I shut it off and waited a second turned it back on and the check engine light turned on and the idle was high and sounded terrible. It was raining bad so after work I took it to autozone to run the code and it started running fine and the engine light turned off. I just guessed a sensor got wet or something. A week later while driving to work a bunch of dash lights come on and I lose pretty much all power. Can barely accelerate. After work I take it to the dealership and they fix the recall and can’t find anything else wrong. Couple days later driving to work again and I lose power but no lights. It still accelerates even at high speeds just feels like a regular car or something. Feels like the turbos stopped working. I’m not sure what’s going on. Any advice?

Any hoses not clamped completely? Also, anything "weird" looking with the MAF/TMAP sensors?

Welcome. That's all you'll get from me, sorry. So, you've been enduring this on and off limp mode crap for two thousand miles?! o_O That's a serious case of "cannot replicate" you've got going there. I hope somebody here can point you to the solution.

Are you a regular at a certain gas station? If its random could be crap gas at times potentially. Also follow suit with the advice and triple check every hose clamp. Check the vac lines for any cracks. If/ when it happens again remember the code # and maybe someone here can point you in the right direction.

At 5500 miles in a month you’ll be out of warranty by year end. You need to get this sorted before then. I would buy a cheap dash cam and record all of this so you have video footage of what’s going on for the dealer and Kia corporate if it gets to that level:

I’m not sure. The weird thing is that it worked fine after work but this morning it started doing it again. I’m gonna bring it to carmax today though

So my car started working fine after work yesterday but now this morning it did it again. I don’t really have a regular gas station yet as I just moved here.

I moved closer to work recently so I won’t be putting that many miles on it anymore. But I am going to bring it to carmax today. It happened this morning again and I took pictures and videos of what it’s doing so hopefully they can get it figured out.

I don’t know how to post the video on here but here’s all the dash lights that come on whenever it happens.

Have you tried changing modes and seeing if it still happens? I’m wondering if it’s getting hung up in the transmission? I’d find a Kia dealer to work on it before Carmax unless they have some strange warranty they sold you. Also if it’s modded at all make sure you take it all off and try to see if that’s throwing a code somewhere and shutting it down.

So this morning it happened and I pulled over and turned it off. When I turned it back on it automatically was on comfort mode and it was still doing it. I turned it off and on again and switched it to eco and it acted normal but the check engine light was still on. I don’t have a warranty with carmax except they have a 90 day period when you buy a car and they will fix anything wrong with it, but if you think it would be better to go to a dealership first then I’ll do that. Also there are no mods on it at all.

Your in your 90 days right? Scream, bitch, cry if you have to, for them to cover bills at a kia dealer. If they have to fix it you may want to get an extension from them in case they dont get it right. In writing. Show a lil nipple too. Definitely get your ride in sooner than later!

Yeah I am. I’m going to bring it in today. I don’t think I’ll be showing some nipple though lol. Thanks for the advice.

FYI, if you shut the car off in Sport (or custom) mode, it comes back in comfort mode. If it was in eco, it stays in eco when you restart. This is in the manual.

Any word?

Yeah I was just saying it was doing it in sport and comfort mode. Thanks though, I appreciate the input.

Update! If anyone is interested. So after I got off work it didn’t have any problems, but the check engine light was on luckily. So I brought it to carmax and had it scanned and it threw code P061B. They said since the Kia warranty is still good to take it there so I did. Kia ran the code and they gave me a paper, I’ll post a pic of it afterwords. They said they will need to do more in depth diagnostics but they can’t give me a loaner car. So I had to go back to carmax so they could give me a loaner and they will bring it back to the Kia dealership on Monday.

Here’s what the dealership gave me.

Seems like a botched recall job.....I was going to add try disconnecting the battery for 5 mins and re-connect it. Whoever did the job probably shut the car down and could not re-create the problem so they just signed off on the work order.......

You got stuck the original issue.
