3.3TT How are Stinger owners cleaning their valves on their GDI engines?

For sure, but considering you can pick up a usb borescope/endoscope for like $10, if there was a simple 10mm bolt to pull out, and you could take a look down at few of your valves, I'd be more than willing to go down that route instead of just doing a CRC treatment every 10-15k

I am sure you can buy one of those inspections endoscope cheap online. Not sure If there is an easy way like a bolt. The only way I can think of is to remove the spark plugs and look thru there, which is time consuming and not easy for everyone to do. You could also look thru the throttle body which would be the easier route but not sure if the endoscope is long enough.

I have a USB boroscope but removing the plugs won't work. That would be looking into the cylinder, not above the intake valves.

Now that I think about yes you are correct. Looking thru the intake manifold or looking thru the throttle body but not sure if that would work.

Fair enough, now has anyone actually willing to try?

I might take one for the team. I will do this for my American and Canadian brothers. I might try it out this weekend . Wish me luck that I don't F something up. I will make a DIY video and try to get someone to record me.

Don't some people take off the plastic inlet to the intake manifold when they replace their spark plugs? With that out of the way you should have a pretty clear shot down the intake runners at the valves

Yes and No.

I didn't take off anything when taking my spark plugs off. I used different extension and combo to get them off without removing the intake manifold. The video tork did they removed the manifold but I did not.

Good luck brother! Let us know how it turns out. Would be nice if you can get a before and after shot of the valves (somehow), but nonetheless hope it turns out well as Im planning to do this at some point soon.

I took my manifold off it was decently easy just be careful spark plugs took about 45 min in total just don’t drop anything but if I remember correctly you can see the top of the vaulves. I would have to check again and I probly could if anyone wants me to

@lucif3r @brancky3 @WildBill @PMB Guys I made history!!! The first stinger owner in the world to stick a bottle of sea foam down the throttle body to clean the intake valves.

I made a video with phone, not the best quality but better than nothing.

Car blew up with white smoke!!!

Disclaimer Guys: 2 things that came out of this video. Watch the whole video.
1. How to make a white smoke bomb.
2. How to legally get raped by the dealer.

Make sure you go to the you tube icon to wacth on you tube.

Car is on garage now it blew up!!!! Taking mods off to take to the dealers.

So hopefully this is a day after April fools joke! What happened / what makes you think the car "blew up"? From every SeaFoam video I've seen the white smoke is normal. Was there something else?

Lol I did this video on April Fools. Just a day late. The wife was freaking out. Everything seems fine, I will hit the track this weekend so we will know for sure if everything is clean.

Its a bit scary to see that white smoke it reminds of when I blew my motor on my Lexus lol.

Thanks for the video, Angel. I've watched several valve-cleaning vids for different cars on Youtube, and frankly the Stinger looks like one of the easiest to perform this maintenance on. You have potentially saved Stinger owners hundreds of dollars in maintenance costs with your demo. Thanks, again.

I hope so..... that is my goal I am not making any money on you tube or from seam foam products. I do this this to help people save money by doing this themselves instead taking it to the dealers and also to prolong the life of their GDI stinger engine.

I do these kind of videos just in the hopes that some people watch it and are able to help them.

I remember the days as a college kid with not a lot money. So taking it to the dealer was not an option. I do realize is a brand new but car, but the money you can save in little things like this you can use for more important things like your family, vacation or simply just save the money.

Share the video and I hope everyone does this simple maintenance themselves for their Stingers.

I will do a another video this summer of actually looking inside the intake valves, to see how dirty/clean they are.

Great work man. Im gonna do this at 15k km (Im at 11k right now). Let me know if you notice any difference in the next few days/weeks.

So far so good. Traded cars with the wife for this week, she has the Lexus and I have the Stinger. So far so good no issues I noticed at all. There was white smoke at the beginning which tells me there were carbon deposits in there. The smoke stopped right away after I drove for a bit. Right after I put the sea foam in I drove for like 30 minutes so about 15-20 miles. I did some mild pulls and everything seems ok. Will keep you updated after this weekend.

What would be most helpful are before and after images of the valves. Without that, we have no idea if this is effective. Better yet - walnut blast, then this treatment on a regular basis (every OCI?) and then images of the valves every 25k would be helpful to show if this is effective.

Having owned an N54 and now a FA20DIT we see these types of 'prevention' strategies on a regular basis, and the only surefire way to eliminate the deposits is to do a walnut blast. High- and low-speed AOS and PCV system modifications helps on the N54, but many in the FA20DIT world don't really see any benefits. There have been no well-documented preventative fixes like spraying something into the intake tracts. I suspect the 3.3T is the same.

I recall the first time I added seafoam to my 1984 Camaro's carb, that generated a ton of smoke, like big billows, way more than what you see. Pretty sure it is the seafoam itself generating the smoke, not carbon deposits.

Are any Kia Stinger owner's confirming a problem with carbon build-up on the intake valves ?

I would love to see some photos of the problem from stinger owners, or even some statements about how nasty their valves looked.

Likely many people removed their intake manifolds to replace the spark plugs. Are the valves visible? Were they loaded with carbon ?

I didn't look into them but I did use the sea foam to clean the air valves at 11k miles. There was definitely build up because of the way the sea foam was burning/working.

How much build up not sure, but it should be a preventive maintenance done by everyone with a GDI engine, it is extremely cheap and easy to do.

Its pretty well documented and common sense that Direct injected engine always have that carbon build up issue over time due to no fuel passing trough the valves to clean them.

I do it or peace of mind and something to do lol.
