Hot transmission tunnel

I’m having the same Issue, it is still winter for me. I found that my rear vents were closed, while blasting heat. Also, a lot of the heat seems to be coming from the wireless charger. After messing around, I found that turning off the wireless charging pad and making sure your rear vents are open significantly reduces the temperature of the center console. However, mine tends to still get a little warm when I’m punching it constantly or going on a long drive, especially in sport mode. I am not stock though so I don’t know if stock stingers will have better results from this. BTW wireless charging pad can be turned off from the dash settings using your steering wheel.

Howdy and welcome. This isn't an issue, it's a "feature" (aka quirk). The heat in the center "tunnel" can be reduced by turning down the heat to the rear vents, and of course keeping them open as you mentioned.

G’day all. Apologies for replying to such an old thread. Took my recently purchased MY20 GT for a trip from Perth to York for a steak pie over the ANZAC day weekend (approximately 90 minute drive) and experienced the extremely hot centre console issue with my phone shutting off due to heat. Wondering if @Ozstung ever had a resolution to the issue other than leaving the AC on? Has anyone resolved the root cause?

Page 4, set the rear climate control to cool.

Thanks Grump. I saw the solution to turn rear vents to cold and that did rectify the problem - however that also effectively makes the rear vents non-functional for the purposes of heating.

Was wondering if there was a permanent solution to allow the rear vents to heat and not make the centre console hot to touch and overheating the charging area.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Hi Brad yes i would still have the issue except i was told to make sure the climate control was always switched on. Apparently this redirects or stops the heat going down the heater core pipe running down the transmission tunnel.

Having the rear set to cold makes no difference the AC climate control at the front stops the heat running down the pipe.

I was particularly effected earlier on as i always had my climate control off and the windows down. In doing this the heater core pipe will have heat in it. Now my AC is always on year round and set 16c.

Back 5 odds years ago when they opened the transmission tunnel to have a look the chief Kia mechanic said the pipe really should have come insulated. But as the car is built to price he thought thats why it had none.

Not sure if mentioned it at the beginning of the thread the day i picked up the car the lass selling me the said vehicle was demonstrating the vehicles gadgets to me from the front passenger seat for about 20-25 minutes and chatting. The Ac wasn't on and the core heater pipe heated and melted the carpets glue and gave off fumes. She went home sick when i left. I ended up with a headache.

yet you bought the car anyway, it was the color that swung the difference. Ima right?

Thanks for replying @Ozstung - I did read through the entire thread from the beginning.

I have seen some videos of people removing the centre console to replace part of the unit (change out charging station, change cup holder to the Korean model with the hinged cover etc) but I have not seen anyone actually point to the parts that get hot and could benefit from better insulating.

Must be the engineer in me that wants to understand the root cause and determine if it can be fixed.

Also surprised that the issue is not more widespread for people living in colder climates - the need to move the heating dial to hot down under being very rare.

Anyway - I guess this is just one of those small issues that you have to accept because the overall stinger package is great!

Put almost 2000kms on mine in the last two weeks having fun.

Sorry for the resurrection, just wanted to give a shout out for how great this forum is to resolve issues, it's better than the user manual :)

I was having issues with the under armrest compartment getting ridiculously hot and cooking anything that was in there. Thought it was an car issue and then found this thread - the dealer had left rear vents on full heat and they were closed.

Opened them up and turned down to middle heat and the armrest compartment stays completely cool now.
