Hey. Introducing myself to hopefully get rid of this banner always asking me to do so. :p2019 Black GT2, New England climate.

I have been lurking for a while. The most I've ever done in terms of car maintenance is change tires, brake pads, and oil. The prospect of modding has always seemed like trying to mess with electrician's or plumber's work as a layman. But since delving into those as a DIYer, my worries are less then they have ever been. So, I finally decided that performance is more important than visuals for me and bought the 450 Wheel Horsepower KIA Stinger Package from BMS. It should arrive in a week. I bought the PNP fuel wires as well because it seems like a better option for the JB4 install.

I plan on starting with the intakes and the oil catch can then moving to the JB4 if all goes well. The spark plug install seems challenging so I don't know if I want to swallow my pride and have a tuning shop do it. It was interesting that the plugs are 1 step instead of 2 step, but maybe that means I stay at map 2 tops for a while and learn more before messing with the higher maps, if at all, before getting colder plugs. I wanted to install a BOV because my lady friend hates the sound and would never drive it thereafter (yeeeeesssss :sneaky:). But seriously, although I like the sound, I am not sure it helps performance in any measurable way with the Stinger. I'll definitely be throwing an MBRP exhaust and BMS intercooler on at some point before/if I go to the higher maps. I'll do tires (if I can find something better than Potenzas near me), pads, and sway bars at some point, too. Though there seems to be less consensus on items like that. I like the stock look of the Stinger and I have little brand snobbery so I won't be rebadging. Can't tell you how many people have approached me asking about the car, with the common question being "Is that a KIA?" I might swap the hood for one of those gnarly looking Seibons. But that's only because I don't like that the hood vents are fake.

I've read some horror stories here and since the Stinger is my DD, I want to keep it tame and as reliable as possible while still getting some gains over stock. I am unlikely to track this car, but I never say never.

I've been reading as much as I can here and watching videos, cross-referencing where I can to make sure I'm not being led astray by someone who turned their Stinger into an expensive pavement-weight and doesn't talk about it. This place seems like it's frequented by some of the most knowledgeable owners of Stingers so I'll continue lurking and maybe asking a question here or there. Hopefully I'll never have to make a dreaded "so X blew up today" thread but fortune favors the bold so here I am.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. I’m glad you found us! :)

Welcome to the hive! From what I've heard the intakes will give you more BOV sound, without adding new valves. Sway bars are a great upgrade in my opinion, (I love mine) but getting something better than the Bridgestones first is a good idea. Do you run winter and summer tires or just all seasons?

Thank you, glad this resource is here. Otherwise I'd have to rely on YouTube and Stinger meetups! I'm just stoked to get the chance to work on the car and learn along the way from the people here.

I gathered that the intake change will add some swanky sounds as a benefit. From what I have researched, BOV is a tradeoff and in most vehicles not worth it. Stinger has what appears to be a bypass system, which is fine. I wonder though if you really tune the car for boost or take up map3+ on the JB4 whether the BOV will help your time off the line.

Right now for tires I'm using the Potenzas only. For my region, it seems the car came stock with certain tires and wheels. It's been a wash trying to find a place locally that has winter tires that fit. Thankfully I was driving another vehicle most of the winter but come next year I want to be riding comfortably on some Happas or X-ices. The dealer told me my tires needed changing the last time I went but the tread seems fine to me. They also said "you should look at changing your brakes, since it's a Stinger" Lolwut? I avoid hard braking (really, I avoid braking at all :)) and I bedded the brakes properly. Sitting at 11000 miles on the odometer, I don't feel a brake change is necessary yet. I am still researching pads for performance and even rotors on the off chance issues arise.

The brakes are a common complaint seems that in the US (or North America -not sure) Kia used pads that are quiter because of complaints but they leave deposits, so people get shuttering, and think it's the rotors... I will be upgrading my brakes, when the time comes, because I love the extra stopping power.

Tires seem to be very regional and some (to me) odd choices... Canadian Stingers come with the summer only Pilot Sport 4 tires as standard and I've seen post where warmer weather Stingers come with a touring all season tire... but I'm not complaining about getting the PS4 as standard.

Welcome!

Congrats and welcome! :D

Those are solid mods to start with! :)

There is a HUGE thread about aftermarket pad/rotor options to prevent the (soon-to-be / eventually) Brembo brake vibration/shudder problems! :p

Howdy and welcome into the open.

Something close to a consensus attaches to aftermarket anti-sway bars: Eibach is mentioned most (that's what I have). I'm not into performance driving, but I do enjoy "spirited" cornering and acceleration (with the occasional push beyond, sometimes well beyond, 100 MPH). The Eibach sway bars changed both how the car feels more planted and consistent steering: no more oversteer. That's all I have to say about mods. I'm stock in all other aspects, including brakes: I'm still on my OE brakes beyond 40K miles; never a shudder or sound out of them. So, if your brakes are behaving then there is no reason to fix what ain't broke.

Yeah I'll have to test my brakes to see if this is an issue. I always try to break with medium pressure then as light as possible to slow or stop.

Another +1 for the sway bars then. Do you know if they play nice with a Mando system? I was just reading about it and it might be nice on these roads you can't avoid potholes on in New England. I hear you about the brakes, I just figured I might get better response and shorter stopping distances with upgraded ones. Out of curiosity, why did you decline to mod further?

Mando and aftermarket sway bars: haven't read of anything adverse. I know that @Waynerm002 didn't bother to put aftermarket sways on after he got the Mando, because he said he didn't feel the need to do both.

Handling feel and steering was improved, but I like the rest of the car as-is. It's more than enough car for me. :D
