Hey. Introducing myself to hopefully get rid of this banner always asking me to do so.
2019 Black GT2, New England climate.
I have been lurking for a while. The most I've ever done in terms of car maintenance is change tires, brake pads, and oil. The prospect of modding has always seemed like trying to mess with electrician's or plumber's work as a layman. But since delving into those as a DIYer, my worries are less then they have ever been. So, I finally decided that performance is more important than visuals for me and bought the 450 Wheel Horsepower KIA Stinger Package from BMS. It should arrive in a week. I bought the PNP fuel wires as well because it seems like a better option for the JB4 install.
I plan on starting with the intakes and the oil catch can then moving to the JB4 if all goes well. The spark plug install seems challenging so I don't know if I want to swallow my pride and have a tuning shop do it. It was interesting that the plugs are 1 step instead of 2 step, but maybe that means I stay at map 2 tops for a while and learn more before messing with the higher maps, if at all, before getting colder plugs. I wanted to install a BOV because my lady friend hates the sound and would never drive it thereafter (yeeeeesssss
). But seriously, although I like the sound, I am not sure it helps performance in any measurable way with the Stinger. I'll definitely be throwing an MBRP exhaust and BMS intercooler on at some point before/if I go to the higher maps. I'll do tires (if I can find something better than Potenzas near me), pads, and sway bars at some point, too. Though there seems to be less consensus on items like that. I like the stock look of the Stinger and I have little brand snobbery so I won't be rebadging. Can't tell you how many people have approached me asking about the car, with the common question being "Is that a KIA?" I might swap the hood for one of those gnarly looking Seibons. But that's only because I don't like that the hood vents are fake.
I've read some horror stories here and since the Stinger is my DD, I want to keep it tame and as reliable as possible while still getting some gains over stock. I am unlikely to track this car, but I never say never.
I've been reading as much as I can here and watching videos, cross-referencing where I can to make sure I'm not being led astray by someone who turned their Stinger into an expensive pavement-weight and doesn't talk about it. This place seems like it's frequented by some of the most knowledgeable owners of Stingers so I'll continue lurking and maybe asking a question here or there. Hopefully I'll never have to make a dreaded "so X blew up today" thread but fortune favors the bold so here I am.
