Have the "Trunk Thunk" Kit, now what?

Figured I'd follow up on my "fix". It's been 2 weeks and I haven't heard a peep out of my hatch.

Finally got around to installing the kit Monday and no more trunk thunk. The most noise that was coming out of the hatch area was the dog food sliding around in the bag.

My kit came in the mail yesterday so looking forward to install this weekend.

I installed the kit last weekend. Don’t forget to also check and adjust the anti-slam bumpers on the bottom of the hatch. Mine had moved in a bit.

Youtube video to fix rattle with electrical tape:
(the site will not let me hyperlink).

I found this on youtube and it fixed the rattle on my 21 stinger gt. No kits, no washers, just simple electrical tape on the trunk latch. Simple and easy.

I think indirectly both achieve the same thing. By putting tape on the plastic pieces that raises the hatch slightly causing more tension in the latch, thus it doesn't rattle. Either way good to know.

I've had my '22 Stinger for 6 months. Trunk thunk began for me about 3 months ago. Spoke to Kia mechanic who insisted the TSB didn't apply to my newer model. Went and talked to the Kia body shop mgr. who was kind enough to order me the kit for free. I placed 3 layers of paper towels between the plastic contacts and the rattle completely disappeared. Guess I'll go ahead and install the kit, otherwise I'll try the tape method suggested by others. Crazy they are not more proactively doing something about this based on the number of people with the exact same issue.

I put some leftover wrap on my trunk latch and it worked but after a few days I started noticing the occasional rattle. Put on a little more wrap on today and it seems to have worked.

Nevermind. Didn't work. Will be putting in the extra washers this weekend.

Installed the gasket and washer fix kit. Trunk thunk completely gone even though the dealer said my 2022 vin isn't applicable.

I have a 2022 and it developed the hatch rattle in the first 1,000 km’s. I installed the Kia gasket/washer kit and the rattle is now completely gone.…even in Canadian winter weather.

Is this part only a few bucks from the dealer or are they marking it up big time?

I got it for about $2.00 CDN from my local aKia dealer.

Cheap enough. Not worth the aggravation of dealing with service to get this covered under the tsb.

My thought as well. It only took me about 20 minutes, including adjusting the over slam bumpers. I used a zip tie (between the rubber sleeve and bolt head) to make sure they stayed at the correct length.

That’s way less time than trying to get it fixed by a dealer!

^^Over slam bumpers had to be extended slightly?

Yes. The bolts were actually a little bit loose (easy to turn) and had moved in a bit. The zip tie around the bolts tightened them up and got them to the right length. I used black zip ties so they are not noticeable .
