I received the hatch rattle fix kit but no instructions came along with it. How should I install it? My hometown roads are AWFUL and in the course of owning my car for about three months the "thunk" is worse.

Yeah somebody in this forum told me about it. The kit was about $10, ordered with a paint pen

Can I get the link to it? I can try to give you some instructions based on what comes in the kit

I'll have to go digging for it but once I find it I will put it here.

That was probably me. here is the part you remove on each side of the hatch. Take them off, add a pad and washers to each, and put them back on.

Couldn't find the exact thread but I did find images of the service bulletin

Here is the first page of the bulletin with the part number for the kit:

Thanks. The TSB also says to extend the hatch bumpers too

Shoot I must've missed this tsb, didn't even know! Thanks but yeah I did put some thicker washers from home depot under that hatch bumper, helped but I still get thunks every now and then. I'll call my dealership about this

I found a "clean" copy of the full service bulletin, SA322 with the part number for the pad and washer kit.
omg, thanks for that. i just emailed it over the service manager at south jordan kia in utah.

There is a newer version of this TSB.
thanks for that. um, i just have to ask myself, "self, why are we, (who dont work at kia), the ones that are finding these bulletins and having to tell the service department how to fix it?"

Ah, the old: "If all else fails, whack it with a mallet" TSB. Years ago I was in final trim at Ford Chicago Assembly and this was how they were getting the doors aligned on the old Ford Taurus; with a mallet and a 2 x 4 to the lower front door hinge

Because a lot of service departments are generally lazy and don't want to do any more than the bare minimum because it costs them time. Like the pending argument with Chevrolet over my wife's 2017 Corvette with a bad torque converter shake. They've said it's the tires, the wheels whatever other than exactly what the class action lawsuit says it is. They gave her three or four TSBs that say "it's not what you think it is". however to properly diagnose the proper root cause you have to turn the issue "off" and back "on". THey rebalanced the wheels and said "we're done" however the problem still exists. The worst was when the "transmission guy" finally said "All Corvettes are like that". Seriously. Good thing I wasn't on the phone with him. Even my old 328xi with 130K+ miles didn't feel like that on the highway.

after i sent those pdfs over to the service manager yesterday, he said that this was fixed in the 22's.
well apparently not because im about to pull my hair out from listening to the rattling.
i just blast my music so i dont have to hear it.
but i want it fixed, 22 or not...

I added the washers myself couple days ago, but notices if you add two washers per bolt then the hatch door is not perfectly flush with bumper, so I used only one washer per bolt.
