Has anyone done any successful sound proofing/deadening to the trunk area?

Title says it all.

How’d you do it? What did you use?

Dang, that’s stuff is expensive.

It's not cheap, this is true. But I have the rolls lying around from a professional car audio install on my current car, so... :)

But it is a very good product - multiple layers -a heavy base for dampen vibration, a metal "mid-layer" for rigidity, and a more open foam top layer to prevent sound reflection.

search , somebody posted a thorough "how to" on this topic several months ago

I used this very stuff to line the spare tire area as well as putting a layer underneath the floor cover that goes over that area. Don’t remember how much I used but it made some difference in road/tire noise intrusion. Read some as a little.

Pictures?

I have no idea how much it would take, would 18 square feet be enough?

That depends on what you're trying to achieve.

If you're just looking to stop vibration of the panel, any coverage is better than none - even a relatively small amount will change the frequency at which the panel reverberates, and also reduce the amplitude of the vibration.

If you're looking to use it at a sound barrier, you will want as close to total coverage as possible.

What percentage of the sound coming from the back is panel vibration and what percentage is outside noise from the exhaust?

I’m honestly going for full coverage, but I really have no idea what 18 sq ft looks like.

I tried searching before I posted this, but I couldn’t find anything. Link?
just looked and didnt find it , I know someone did a good post on it though , including doors etc

I find a couple of dead bodies stuffed in the back does the trick. Trouble is you have to get fresh ones every few days. Lol:cool:
Seriously Ozstung did the sound mat to stop the muffler drone and it seemed to work. There is thread somewhere that has pics.

In between body runs, you can carry the bags of quicklime and bales of straw.

And then people wonder why my rose garden is so nice...

Don’t forget the bottles of acid.

I used Dynamat on the doors, hatch/spare tire area, and under the rear seats. I don't remember how much I used though.

I also used a layer of Dynaliner for under the spare tire cover.
