Is there a procedure or anything to follow to reset the shift points with the xtool? I have never used one but considering buying it just for this. Lmk, thanks! So I can confirm that clearing the learned gearbox shift points using an OBD II two way scanner definitely does the trick. I cleared mine with the XTool Anyscan A30D here: The next drive was just like it was new again, very satisfied with the purchase. Also note that I tried that ridiculous manual procedure to reset on the road and flipping through park, drive, neutral, reverse, etc and had no luck with that. It almost feels like an April fools joke when you can literally reset the thing with one button click.
100 bucks or so to avoid a trip to the dealer to fight them on whether there is an issue or not and hope they don't run my ceramic coat through an automatic car wash is more than worth it. Besides, you can use this widget to do all sorts of other stuff, read codes and make tweaks to other features.
As for recurring after a few months as others have said, no worry, just plug in this thing and reset the learned shifts again and your off and running. That's the life of a modern 8/9 speed automatic car owner, unfortunately.
Good luck folks!
It's very simple. Is there a procedure or anything to follow to reset the shift points with the xtool? I have never used one but considering buying it just for this. Lmk, thanks!
No luck here -- I connected the A30D, found it via bluetooth in the app, downloaded the ~97 updates (most for other makes, but I just let it do them all), and ran the automatic scan that hits 33 systems. So far so good. It's very simple.
1. Turn car engine off
2. Turn on ignition (press ignition button twice without your foot on the break pedal. You should not be in "accessory" mode.
3. Plug in the XTool and connect to Bluetooth (assuming you've already gotten BT pairing, the app installed on your phone and established all connectivity already)
4. Select Special Function in the app.
5. Find the Gearbox Match menu.
6. Select car make and auto detect.
7. Reset gearbox learning option.
I cant remember the exact wording and names of the menus/options, so what you see will likely be slightly different than what I've outlined here, but it's very straight forward and the interface is relatively intuitive.
Not accessory. You need to be in ignition On mode. Which is when you hit the ignition button twice without your foot on pedal. You need to be in accessory mode, engine cant be running
It was "ON"/IGN (two pressed of the Start button without the brake depressed), not ACC (one press), no engine running. You need to be in accessory mode, engine cant be running
If you can document your exact steps, I'm sure we can figure it out. Screen snips is a plus but not essential if you document each page and step exactly. Be sure to upgrade the firmware of the XTool also, if there is one.No luck here -- I connected the A30D, found it via bluetooth in the app, downloaded the ~97 updates (most for other makes, but I just let it do them all), and ran the automatic scan that hits 33 systems. When I go into Special Function and select Gearbox Match, Automatic Mode will correctly find my car (VIN, region, model, and engine), warn me to "Please connect to the network to ensure that the security gateway can send normally", and then tell me "The selected function is not supported." In Manual Mode I can pick the Stinger and 3.3 engine, then get the same not supported message. I also tried Gear Learning, but that only has GM/Opel/Vauxhall...doesn't even list Asia region.
I did not make it this far. After selecting Gearbox Match from the Special Function menu, Auto would connect and identify my car, but both it and manual would fail with the "function not supported" message I included above.
I just had it do all 90+ updates, Kia or otherwise. Pretty sure it's not a connection issue because those ran fine, the ODB unit blinks when I run something, and it finds my make/model/VIN during the scan. I've tried on both wifi and cell service (both of which seem to be fine), both Auto and Manual car detection. The one step I don't have a screenshot of, because it appears for less than a second, is after the VIN and "make sure you're connected" screens, when it goes to the "Communicating..." step, I get a split second of something like "Going into the system" before that "not supported" message. Are you still connected to wifi or cell data when you do it?
I think some functions require data connection to the internet.
if I go to special function, gearbox match, Asia, Kia, Stinger it all comes up.
Are you trying to do it from autoscan? I have the A30M so maybe its a bit different.
I never make it to this screen, just goes from "Communicating..." with the spinning icon, to the failure message after a couple of seconds. I created the login when I first opened the app...don't think it will let you do anything (including the updates and 33 step AutoScan that work for me) without it. And I don't think 2022 is the issue, because some of the other screens where you can look up vehicles by region only display certain years, but in the Manual screen of Gearbox Match it offers me the 2022 option.Very odd. After that screen, it should bring you here with the red circled option that you need. You activated the A30D and created a password and all using the code printed on the little insert right? It almost seems like a licensing issue for your XToolView attachment 84109
If still having issues, maybe reach to their support. Only other idea is that maybe the feature isn't supported for yr 2022 yet, but that would be kinda odd. Works perfect on my 2020 stinger 3.3.
I just covered it, it does retrieve it
So turns out I was wrong to assume that the years listed under a given feature indicated which models were available -- they emailed me back saying Gearbox Match isn't available for 2022 yet. So I went into the Manual selection and tried 2021, which failed with the same error, but when I tried 2020 it completed successfully. I assume it's the same flag or table that gets cleared out so year doesn't matter. If still having issues, maybe reach to their support. That makes sense, glad to hear. There's no difference between the model years of this cars transmission or its electronics really, so not surprised it would still work. Definitely keep us posted! It's probably just that the XTool folks haven't gotten their hands on those model years yet to test it before claiming feature support or something.I just covered it, it does retrieve it

Went on a quick 5 mile drive and didn't notice any 4-3 or 3-2 lurching across a few drive modes (basically only got 1 full stop apiece). Will see how it behaves over the next few days but seems to have worked.
I just bought a '22, and the down shifts when coming to a stop are rougher than any car i've ever owned. It is not smooth at all for me.Have been driving the 3.3tt since 2019 and have never experienced the lurching that is being mentioned? When coasting to a stop the transmission does shift to lower gears, but this is quite a smooth operation which helps with slowing down.
