Slight update. For shits and giggles I tried the in-car adaptive shift reset as described in KGIS. After putting 25-30 miles on the car tonight including frequent stops, the shifts did indeed appear to reset back to how it was when I picked the car up from the dealer. It is no longer slamming into lower gears. I did BOTH the "static relearn" and the "driving relearn" as described in the attached PDF.
The hard shifting for me started 6 months ago. Not sure if battery replacement had anything to do with it, could be coincidental. I searched for a while for a resolution and even asked the dealer to reset it for me but they said they won’t do it.
But the info that’s been shared on this thread has worked! Tried it out yday and no hard shifting. Thanks y’all.

If my dealership tells me no, im going to have a normal shop do it, because almost any of them can. Just keep that in mind if it happens again. But glad it all worked for you!
So I am back! I went to a dealership, told them the issue i was having, and specifically told them i wanted the adaptives in the TCU reset. They did it and now the downshifts are basically not even noticeable in comfort. I haven't tried sport yet cause i want it to learn my driving in comfort for a bit. But this is definitely the fix!

Can anyone provide a more detailed process of the Driving Relearn. Basically you just accelerate smoothly from Drive to 8th and then Brake smoothly back to a stop? Do you have to accelerate at a set RPM or coast rather than brake to the stop? Thanks much.

So what I've done is after the static relearn accelerate in Sport mode to a little over 45 so you can go into eighth gear in manual. According to the directions the pedal needs to be less than 23% which how would you know without something like a JB4? Since I have JB4 I was able to keep it under 23% and then when I got to eighth gear I got on the brakes a bit and manually went down the gears to a stop.
I tried to do this in comfort but my car takes forever to get to 45 with less than 23% pedal and I run out of road where I am at or another car gets in the way.
After a little while of doing those my sport downshifts on the stock TCU are smooth as butter.

The car is programed to assume your next move and prepare parts of the transmission for the next upshift or downshift.
How long you would hold that gear (i.e. average shift rpm) when you apply the brake it automatically prepares a downshift so the shift itself is smooth and fast .
The dealers can reset the computer keeping track of your daily driving habits and allow you the driver to intentionally drive a specific way for a long period of time to 'relearn' the habits and shift points and hold points within a gear in a manner that best suits your needs....
Because let's be honest we all romp this car from time to time especially when it was new. Maybe that isn't what you want with the fam bam in the car. Maybe clearing out the new car feeling from the transmissions memory can help you!
Thanks to the OP for this. Had a really hard downshift from 3rd to 2nd. Followed the directions and it went away. Thought I was going to have to go into the dealer. Much prefer this solution. Hardest part was finding an empty road.
My 2019 was at the dealership a few months ago for this. They did the reset and everything was fine. Now it is back again. Is this going to be a continuous problem with this car? It is beginning to get annoying.

I've been having this problem and was going to take my car to the dealership next week. I'm going to give the static relearn a try by itself and report back if that helps at all.
