GT1 Hesitation - due to left foot braking according to Kia Service

Just, damn....

Someone educate me... what is the advantage of left foot braking? Even when driving a manual, I've only braked with the right foot.

There are none for regular driving on the street, especially in an automatic. There are some when driving a performance vehicle on a race track or off-road, or being a hooligan in a manual on the street.

My daughter does it, because her mother does it. They both also insist it's OK to cruise in the left lane because that's safer than making lane changes. For as smart as they are, they have some dump opinions..

Which, by the way, where the so-called stats about left-foot braking being safer come from. Opinions.

Are you 'resting' your foot on the brake pedal also? I see lots of older dudes rocking Cadillacs with the brake lights BLAZING the whole time.

Same here. I've never heard of people braking with their left foot.
There was a very successful road circuit driver that ran nascar occasionally but only on road circuit tracks forget his name but that's what made him fast. It'll come to me. Boris Said had to Google it.

Yes, as myself and others stated..

If anyone wants to know more about dual pedal use, look up "heel and toe" as well. I had a modified street car that required it for smooth shifting.

Also consider the benefits of keeping older, high-inertia turbos spooled up.

Say what u want worked.good for me for 41 years no accidents. If you're too stupid to figure it out then dont use it!!!

In my line of work, I come across and I have always wanted to tell left-foot-brake drivers that their brake lights were on all the time and drivers behind them could not immediately tell whether the car was decelerating, accelerating, or just cruising along. IMO, it's borderline dangerous in normal situations and downright dangerous in emergency situations when a full second is precious.

Sometimes I ponder whether the brakes were actually engaged. I know some cars have brake light switch (limit or micro switch) on the brake pedal arm while others have a switch on the brake line actuated by line pressure.

It is my understanding that the brake-throttle interlock electronic protocol was originated by the incidents of runaway cars in which the drivers claimed that the throttle was jammed wide open. Afterward, drive-by-wire throttle mechanism becomes interlocked with brake actuation.

I have some not nice things to say about electronic nannies like that, but it's off the scope of this thread.

I just bought a 2019 GT1 about 1800 miles on the car and it has a bad hesitation when you are basically stopped and turning into say a store parking lot off the street. The dealer checked it out today and said everything checked out and they didn't have it occur. When I drive it happens almost all the time. Then he asked if I drive left foot brake - well yes I do. That's how I learned and still do it after 40 years of driving. They told me that it's confusing the car - it doesn't know if to brake or go. Come on - never had this problem before. Anyone else experiencing this? He told me to drive with 1 foot only - um - ok - so I bought this 50K car and I can't drive it how I like to? any suggestions? When I bought it they didn't tell me to drive with 1 foot else I would not have purchased it...
Time to change! Plant your left foot firmly on the dead pedal and leave it there. (Unless you find out that its bollocks, and there is some software/programming issue that is resolved, "freeing up" your left foot again.:))

I wouldn't call this getting off to a good start on the forum.

I dont think its lack of intelligence that stops people from using their left foot for the brake.

So, are you smart enough to change up your bad habit or will you just live with the car behaving the way it is?

It's not a bad habit yeesh. Just cuz you dont do it doesn't mean others aren't smart enough to do it give me a break I like to drive that way and it works 4 me why judge me 4 something that works?

In other words you're fine with the way the car is behaving and this whole thread and you going to the dealership was for nothing?

I find it interesting you keep equating the ability to brake with your left foot to being smart. It's about muscle memory and gaining nothing from taking the time to switch the lifelong habit for daily driving use.

Anyway, if we were meant to use our left foot to brake it would be placed much farther left instead of right next to the gas pedal. It would be where the clutch is on manuals.

Really. Hmmm weird idea seems to work well where it is for me

I would left-foot brake to get tailgating knuckleheads behind me to back off. E.g, my morning commute includes no-pass ,hilly, twisty 2-lane. There's been an number of times including in icy conditions were some d-bag is right on my bumper (and trust me, I am NEVER the 'slow driver'), and I want to get him/her to pay attention/back-off without rear-ending me. So I keep right foot down and tap+ the brakes with left. I found out early on that I couldn't do it with the Stinger. The car's nannies cuts power and gives in to the brakes right away.

I have the same problem, except I only use one foot and my car doesn't hesitate when turning into parking lots. Have you tried arming launch control as you make low speed turns? If you can make the turns within 3 seconds, it might work.

Arming launch control for low speed turns hahah

@eflyguy ohhh the old heel/toe.... I got it, it just was never very pretty, hats off to you!!!!

I upped a clutch in a WRX one time and SOB it was a workout to track it. You had to keep the turbo spoiled through a turn and land it perfect.
