Uhhh, yeah. That's kind of unbelievable. I mean, Kia had a lot of missteps getting this car to market but that seems like a big ball to be dropping. Good to know then, forget what I said about actually believing information printed on the car being accurate. Does anyone with the 18"s want to double-check that and make sure it's consistent across the board?

I was at the KIA dealership the other day. The new stickers are very clear about the adjusted speed. The sticker that came with my car doesn't mention it anywhere. I bought my Stinger in the beginning of January when this information wasn't readily available.

No car manufacturer does what you're asking for. Neither Audi, BMW or Mercedes puts on All Season tires rated to above 130 mph. They will give you summer tires with those speed ratings and they even have an agreement to limit their cars to 155 mph with the summer tires. It's the customer's responsibility to figure this out at the end of the day.

LOL at Utah speed limit of more than 130 mph. That is illegal and more importantly dangerous.

Let's forget about the "legal" speed limit, that's obvious. What is your opinion of those of us that would like to take are Stingers to the track??

It is not so much as a deception but as a way to keep the European courts from charging them higher insurance penalties. All the German manufacturers will limit their cars at 155 because that is the cut off. Anything higher and they get hit with penalties. Their cars might do 200 or they might do 140, either way, it is a gentleman's agreement that, in writing, it says 155. As for kia and the snow tires, has anybody thought to check that states regulations in regard to awd and performance tires? In n.y., awd, unless you asked for it specifically pre-purchase, you got the lower rating. It is a simple ECU fix to remove the governor. In Florida, an AWD vehicle that offered either option, it's the dealer who sets the car up. When the Mrs and I were looking at the stinger, they had 2 chroma reds, both awd drive, one with z rated tires. It was listed on the window sticker. Dealer said some people just want the option because they aren't performance oriented In their driving. The old saying of buyer beward is evident here. Bait and switch, etc etc. I feel for the forum member who purchased his car without the 19's. Hate that all he got were floor mats, and I had stated that, but, has he gone and asked to have the governor removed? Sure, he will probably have to pay to have it done, but at least it would be done by a dealer. Otherwise, get a racechip, lap3 and get a set of 19's with z tires. That's just a thought.

None of the dealerships I have spoken with are either willing or able to remove the governor. I will have to take my car to a performance shop to bring it up to what this car was marketed to do. I don't expect KIA to swap out the rims and tires, I will do that myself. KIA should step up and do the right thing by it's early purchasers.

So I'm a new stinger gt awd owner.. just got the car 4 days ago. I was never informed of the top speed reduction. I never asked due to the large poster claiming a top speed of 167. I do feel like it should have been disclosed and really hope it doesn't affect resale. They definitely need to train their employees better as they had no idea on how to operate half the functions and suggested I "read the manual"... i should have done more research firs but we fell in love during our test drive and purchased it on the spot. My window sticker does not state that the 18 inch wheels lower top speed. I have mixed feelings about this at the moment and know I'm sol... still sux.

No limits in Oz 300kmph, and I was not told anything either, but really how often would you do that sort of speed? I have had it at 160kph and it scared the crap out of me!

Yeah I know... it's the point though that I wasnt informed so that I could make my own decision. Nothing I can do now but wish it would have been disclosed to me before purchase. My own fault for not researching vehicle and making an "impulse" buy. Love the car still even though its neutered lol

Check the fine print in the user manual it’s probably in there but the dealers know less about the cars than the buyers. They only tell you the stuff that you like to sell u the car.

Ya few guys have had that same issue. The 18” wheels are not rated for speed. There is a lot of difference between awd and rwd some cars have more boost for extra weight of awd.some cars have the lsd rear. The gt 2 has fly by wire transmission. Where others are hard cable shift. Some of these little things make a big deal when some people where buying these for speed and power and how it gets to ground.

Absolutely I understand that 100% The car is amazing no matter what the top speed is. It just sux to think it's much higher than advertised.

Hit 195kmph a couple weeks ago...super firm and planted. The car felt great and solid. Tons of legs left on the car!

You haven't said what size rims your AWD has. Those with 19s are speed governed at 167 MPH; they have the Michelin Pilot Super Sport which is a "Y" (186 MPH+) rated "summer" tire. That's what mine came with. I can positively guarantee it is not speed governed at 140 MPH just because it is an AWD. As @BBB said, there was plenty more left at 155 MPH. I just backed off at that point! (Road was going to stop being straight as an arrow up ahead :P.)

Well not kidding...no B.S. Was doing 144mph in the ALL WHEEL drive Stinger.

Nope 18's Promise you. On my GT. I will double check, but almost positive.

Limiting the top speed to the tire rating is absolutely an issue of liability. If some idiot decides to blast down the highway at 167 on tires only rated to 147, the tire fails, the manufacturer is now open to a wrongful death suit. This is why dealerships won't touch the governor either. Was the death directly the manufacturers fault? Not really, but there were steps they could have taken to mitigate, chose not to, and because of that the manufacturer is now liable for what they call 'misfeasance'

To fix the problem, purchase the correct rated tires and an ECU from or for a stinger with the 167mph top speed and swap it into your own stinger. Will end up being cheaper than getting your car "chipped"/"tuned" and dealing with all the broken engine internals as a result.

Has anyone found a way around surpassing the speed limiter?

I'm on the phone with Stinger Premium line and I'm ready for them to tell me to kick rocks.

Update: the rep states that I can no longer alter the vehicle on their behalf
