I have been running e30 for the past month and for the first time today I did a pull and mid pull it just kicked me out of map 4 and back into map 0. I’m hoping I just have too much e in the tank and my hpfp crashed. I’m down to 3/4 in the tank I’m hoping if I just fill up with 93 it’ll correct itself? I didn’t log the pull so I have no info at all ):

Have you checked in the log section? Because unless you turned it off, by default the JB4 will run a log when you hit a certain throttle input (I think 80%). And this is how you should log anyway, to avoid having a thousand rows of low/off-throttle filler btw.

If not, just go do another pull before you fill up so you have a log to analyze. Might be HPFP, but could also be overboost that did it (JB4 also has a setting for that, and I think it's 23-24 by default).

I didn’t have the app open lol so no log sadly but once I get off work I will do a pull and see if I can post the log on here. I’m just gonna do a 30 roll up until like 90 and see how it acts on map 4

If it misbehaves, might as well go ahead and do a Map 3 pull for comparison.

I did multiple pulls on map4 it acted perfectly normal now I’m leaning towards the turbos making too much boost and hitting a safety like you said. I have logs but idk how to post them on here ):

I figured it out! I don’t really know how to read them but if you know lmk if it looks good I’m running denso 2 step colder plugs, intakes and e30

Looks fine to me...boost maxes out around 19, and fuel pressure is rock solid 10/11. AFRs good, minimal timing corrections (nothing above 2.3). Maybe just make sure the app is running for the next couple weeks and do a couple pulls under different conditions to see if it returns.

In the meantime, here's a writeup I did on reading logs with some real examples, and the BMS parameter definitions linked:

Thank you! I’ll for sure keep doing pulls to see how it keeps acting. I just filled up again and did a pull it felt good all power was there I’m hoping it stays like this lol but I appreciate your help on helping me with the log

Not sure if you have the fuel it kit but I would highly recommend. It is amazingly accurate and let me see that I put too much e85 when i filled it up first time at chevron. I guess the station i go to the e85 had a higher concentration because with chevron I only need 3.6 gallons and with shell it was more bit more like 4 gallons. But yeah every station probably varies anyway.

But yeah I had a bit too much. Was at e37 and the car did not like it. So i drove for a while and filled it up with more 91 and came down to e32. The fuel trims also seem to be better with chevron than shell from the logs I've done. Not sure how true this is but I read that i supposedly an e mix below e30 tends to run better. I haven't really tested this.

I did some logs today on map 3 and map 4 to see which one looks better. At least for my car the logs look better and with more stable fuel readings on map 3. Not sure if anyone else experimented but correct me if I am wrong please but isn't map 4 more aggressive and more geared above e30 mix where you kinda need cpi?

Anyhow, the fuel it kit has been super accurate to with fill ups so no more guessing game. Plus I am ready for cpi if I even will do that. Kinda doubt but its there along with the bms intercooler with the connection. Just so nice how we have great amount of tools/mods that work together so well!

Happy boosting! :D

I have been looking into the fuel it kit as well but haven’t purchased it yet, and according to other forums I’ve read map 4 is for e30 might be really aggressive and would cause some issues like plugs blowing out. I found out what my issue was, it was just over boosting which caught me off guard because my exhaust is completely stock. Kept doing research on forums and I saw one that said to turn down wgdc, I turned it down to 40 and its been perfectly fine for now lol, gonna order the ewg wires soon to make sure that doesn’t happen again, really scared me tbh lol

Ah overboost! I've been there man. I run the wastegate adaptations ff on 43 setting. I did a log wot once on 45 and 40. 45 was borderline overboosting while 40 was smooth. 43 on my car is awesome. Good call you will benefit from the ewg wires, i have them on.

Heck I've heard from owners overboost on completely stock stingers. Dealer does the usual test for leaks and says all is fine please pay $200 now thank you. :D

Had a similar issue on Saturday at a track day - running map 2/3 on my self-mixed (guesstimate) E30 that I ran on the street just fine in map 3 for years. 7-10 minutes in, power just disappeared, and no boost, otherwise ran fine. At first, I thought the BMS IC hose had popped again (happened once 2 years ago at track day) - but that was solid. Tank was 1/4 after that session, filled up with track pump 96. So at that point, can't be much E85 left, mostly just 96. Car starts off fine, again, ran 5-7 minutes at full power (I think map 2 this time), then no boost. Otherwise, running ok, shifting fine, no hesitation, just 0 boost.

Finally searched a bit (it's been a while since I set everything up, and it's been mostly set-and-forget about it for 2-3 years) and remembered the HPFP crashing problem.

Ran on map 0 the remaining 3 sessions, and no issues at all - car ran at stock power and was rock solid. Oil temps were ~250F (brand new Motul 5w40), ambient ~90F - in the past I ran in 100F+ in map 2/3/4 with no issues. Haven't really changed much since, so was surprised by this. No CEL, after a restart everything was fine. Water temps were middle-of-the-gauge, I have a trans cooler + AMS Signature ATF.

Here's the annoying part: I have no logs. In the past, since I'm a noob, I've accidentally hit the "phone" buttons on the steering wheel while cornering and initiated a phone call in the middle of my track session (redial last number). So now, I set my Mando to 80/80, then turn off bluetooth during the session to avoid that issue.

Any guesses as to whether it's overboost or HPFP cut? Going to log map 3 on the way home, but it's unlikely I'll get an actual good "run" in - always traffic here during the day. '19 GT1 AWD with ~40 K miles. DIY intakes, jb4 map 2/3 (just fuel wires), right now, half a tank of mostly 96. I have some older logs with the same setup, I guess I'll scour those for high boost values.

What reading of HPFP would indicate a problem there?

You can tell on the logs if it show FP_H for being the high pressure fuel pump. If it all of a sudden goes below like i think 9 and lower during a pull, its crashing most likely. Its supposed to stay at 10 and above ideally. You probably will see a spike during a pull. I think I've felt it before when I did chevron first time it had way higher ethanol content than i anticipated being a e38 mix which is too high for stock fuel system at least in my car. It basically cut power but not like an overboost situation where boost completely shuts down until car is restarted.

I have the fuel it kit so i can see ethanol content always. Also have the ewg wires so i can adjust the wastegate to prevent overboost.

Here is a log from map 3 after i changed to chevron e30 mix which gave me better fuel trims and overall cleaner log. I tweaked the wategates ff setting a bit too. It's been running absolutely flawless after I spent some good time learning and adjusting settings, changing fueling stations ect.

Hmm. Can we no longer upload CSV files? I have a log from a couple of runs on the way home today. This is with 96, so probably not going to show anything?

FP_H stays at 10-11 during the run, until rpm drop off when I let off the throttle, down to ~3-3.5. Next run, back to 10/11 (cycles up and down). Boost hits a max of ~18. Of course, car was colder, and I think I added some more 96 after the run that cut boost. Wish 96 was cheaper - those runs felt SO amazing..

I did notice I had WG initial at 50, WGDC at 40, IIRC. So not overly aggressive there either, AFAICT.

Your last safety, the reason why you were dropped to map0, was "fuel trim variance". If you look at trim 1 and 2 you will see it.

Try to change WGDC settings and contact BMS what the reason could be.

How big a variance causes that? They generally followed each other, with trims 2 being ~5-7 below trims under load. In once case, they were 52/51 - is that maxing out? What about ignition - I saw some people mention that as well? I only see values for ign1 / ign2 - and ign1 is all over the place, while ign2 barely moves.

I don't know how much trigger safety, but that was the reason. Ign1 is normal to change with RPM. Ign2-6 are corrections relative to Ign1. They do not trigger safety, only point to fuel limitation.

Just checked - "Last Safety: None".

Do they get cleared every start / switching maps?
