Frameless Auto Dimming and Universal Remote Rear View Mirror

- Subaru Legacy 2017+ Rearview Frameless Mirror, Homelink v5 (LEDs flash in the direction the door is opening/closing), Backlit Garage Buttons, Red Compass 5-pin converted to PNP for the 10-pin KIA STINGER harness - $135 shipped
- Rostra 250-8709 Frameless, Green Compass, Homelink, PNP 10-pin KIA STINGER harness - $119 shipped

I think you order directly from ecko04 himself. He's offered this in the past, as well as other things like jb4 fuel control wire p-n-p harnesses, etc..

If that the case I would gladly purchase the Subaru mirror. I found one on eBay for $150 but that's not PnP and I don't want to mess around too much with the stock wiring.

Do me a solid and give me until next week just to make sure it’s working as expected. I don’t believe I jumped the gun on my post but I do want to test first.

I’m happy to assist if you need anything. All functions work on mine including side mirror dim.

Uhhh...I didn’t snap a before picture before unseating the wires for the rearview mirror.

Would someone please upload a high quality picture of the harness on rearview mirror (mirror side)? I need to see where the six wires should go in the harness. Mirror side should have standard colors of yellow, green, grey, black, white, and brown.

cable is really tight, can't pull it out more without further disassembly. this is from the hyundai mirror with bluelink, so there's an extra purple pin

factory mirror pinout from my kia mirror I had written down:

pink 6
black 8
brown 9
grey 7
yellow 4
green 10

Extra purple and red. I think ours may be slightly different.

that mirror did plug and play just fine.

borrowing your pic from page 2, I color-coded the stock pinout from my list above:

actually I realized I had that bottom row backwards. brown is under the yellow, green to the left of it; black stays where it is, grey to the right of it, and pink on the far right (the real pin 6.)

edit: I uploaded a correct photo to fix that.

I’ve made it to the point where I have an adequate opinion to give on the mirrors.

The opinion is Gentex is a crap shoot. For example, I ordered the same mirror that @Snowwhite has and what I received matched the model numbers exactly. However, the mirror was not edge to edge, there was a small bezel, and the Homelink buttons were not backlit. The compass was red and when the compass is turned off, you cannot see where it displayed. And the Homelink buttons did not function with the ignition off.

Believing I got a dud, I ordered another to rule out any variances. This time I received an edge to edge mirror (no bezel), the Homelink buttons work with the ignition off, the compass display does not fade into the mirror when turned off, and the compass is green instead of red.

I pulled the wiring on each and they were identical meaning the internals of the mirror were different.

Be wary of your orders if you purchase by model and part number since they’re not the same across the board.

I snapped a few pictures so you can see the numbers on the mirror are identical.

the difference is in the wiring of the harness. if you wire pin 6 and pin 10 backwards, the homelink will only work with the ignition on; if you wire the ignition to the battery pin, the compass will always stay on.

the difference between the mirrors I got comes out to the harness pinout, both internally on the mirror and the side that plugs into the car. if you match the pinout of the photo I sent of the internal mirror harness to the pinout on the car side, it'll work. What I did was take the stock kia harness completely out of its mirror and install it in the subaru one. note that the harness in the mirror is "upside down" compared to the stock kia mirror; but if you line up the clip that holds the harness in place for assembly, the pins line up in the correct order.

my subie mirror has the bracket that holds the end of the wire harness in place, like the stock kia unit. i'll get a full part # from it when I get out to the car later. not sure if it's the same as above. I bought mine on ebay with photos to verify it was what I wanted.

I cracked open the mirror and that’s the first thing I tried before ordering another — matching the wiring internally to what you posted, that also did not work.
I flipped the harness inside the mirror, that also didn’t work.
Re-pinned at the harness for the car, that didn’t work.
I was at this for 2 weeks before I concluded that the mirrors themselves are different internally and externally.
It’s the only conclusion for why the exact same model and part number produce different results and altogether different mirrors.
There may be an internal model or version difference.

For the vast majority of people, if it takes this much work to get the mirror functioning, it’s a safe bet that most wont go this route and would prefer instead a PNP option or at least one without the headaches of continuously cracking open the mirror to reposition the wires.

is the part # on the left side of the mirror the same? not the label with the FCC IDs. I tried taking photos of the back of my mirror but they didn't come out well, i'll try again after dark with the flash.

numbers on the left side of the mirror (if you're looking at the rear of the mirror) are different on those two mirrors. mine has an 048368 gntx-1427, like the one you have with the "thicker" frame. I think the motherboards are the same for the same generation mirror, but the options dictate the harness and features (red/green LED, invisible compass or not, etc.)

Mirror has been returned now.
Kept the one that actually worked and was edge-to-edge.
Crap shoots for what’s being gotten with these mirrors isn’t something I’m recommending for folks.

True. I guess I got lucky on my second try. Mine came from a Legacy that had it from the factory, not the accessory you can buy at the parts counter, so it has the extension on the mount to clip the harness onto. But still, not worth rolling the dice. first mirror I got had the stupid lane assist camera. I figured I could take it off and use my existing bracket. wrong, wrong, wrong. all-in-one metal bracket and the mounting points for the brackets differed between generations. I figure now I have a spare for parts in case something breaks or gets damaged.

of note, I did see the behaviour you mentioned- compass and no homelink regardless of ignition- when I plugged in the camera mirror with the kia harness mounted upside-down (as in same order it was on the Kia mirror, pink up if memory serves me right.) the correct orientation is the opposite- pink down. the harness is the same, but reversed- the tab in the plastic cover that holds the harness in place is on the opposite side on the newer gen mirror.
