So I just purchased a 2018 2.0L Premium.

When I got the car, I purchased the Allstate extended warranty coverage (good for 10 years/100k). I'm likely to keep the car for 10 years, and only put about 8-10k/yr on the car, so it seems like a pretty good deal. Also, given that it's a first year model, I expect it to have some issues over time.

When I purchased the warranty, the dealer finance guy told me that I could cancel the warranty if I didn't use it. Given that the factory warranty is basically 5 years, I wouldn't really use the warranty until after year 5.

Does anyone know the process for cancelling the warranty if something happens like the car gets totaled in a few years, but before the factory warranty is up. I'm planning on calling the dealer to get the process in writing, but wanted to see if anyone here had experience.

You aren't confusing insurance with vehicle warranty are you? Didn't know Allstate sold extended warranty on cars.
With any extended warranty, read the fine print and know what it covers and especially the exclusions. Non-factory warranties can be very tricky and many people have been angered because they thought everything was covered when it wasn't.

I would assume your extended warranty would work the same as most. In the event of early cancellation/termination, you would get a refund of the prorated/unused portion of your warranty. For example, you cancel after 1 year, you would get a refund of 9 yrs or remainder of mileage left on your warranty (whichever is less). Now this would only hold true if your extended warranty was never used. Once you use the warranty for any amount of coverage, you forfeit any prorated refund.

After reading your posts in the Southwest board it just occurred to me that I think I bought your old car! White GT2 at the hurst store. They said it was a lease return for someone who wanted. the color you bought. I am loving the car so far. I did have to have them turn the rotors though as there was a bit of vibration at highway speeds when applying the brakes. Also had to put on new tires, the rears were just about gone!

Congrats on the purchase! Yup, sounds about right. The rear tires did need replacing when I traded it in. Unusual wear for a little over 11k miles, in my opinion. I leased that car with 12 miles on it and never drove it crazy or even used launch control. The reason for the trade was more than just color tho. I wanted the '19 options plus more importantly, I wanted to own it instead of lease. Unfortunately, the tax laws in Texas would've required me to pay double taxes to buyout the lease. I ended up with what I wanted and really didn't lose money do to the lease cash on the initial deal. I know they couldn't have made anything on there resale cause they gave me $39k on the trade.

Yep and they tried to play games with saying the car was "certifiable" not certified, until I pulled out the web ad I printed out and it clearly said certified. So they had to pay for that. I don't feel bad for them they made money on the back end and they sold the Sorento SX I traded in in three or four days. My third car purchase from them. My salesman I had used on the prior two had left and the new one was not nearly as straight up.

I went to discount tire in hurst and he measured the tires, the rear were at the wear mark in the center and had tread left on the edges. The front were okay, he said one of the tires was newer than the other, makes sense by your post on the mishap you had. I did not want mixed tires and cannot afford to switch tires yearly so I switched to the pilot sport as 3's. Twice the tread wear warranty. I don't drive near the limit so they seem fine. They do seem to be a tad bit rougher riding though.

I think Kia's 36 psi cold on the rear may be too much if it causes center wear on the rear tires. I may do a post on that forum and see what everyone thinks. I am going to watch these tires and keep them close to 36 psi cold and see how they wear.

Thanks for the reply, good to know the history of the car and that it was not some young kid reaming the car all the timeQ

To the OP, sorry for getting off topic. Look at your contract it is stated in there how to cancel. I will tell you thought that most of them will pay it out to your finance company if there is a lien on the car. Sometimes they make you go to the dealer you purchased it from, so if you haver to do that be prepared for back pressure and they will be losing profit.

I recall they listed my trade as AWD on the initial advertisement. Not sure why that was but maybe that's why they gave me so much for my trade. Yes, I did have the front passenger tire replaced and rim reconditioned while under warranty. I purchased the same wheel/tire warranty for my '19 GT2 along with the 10yr 100k mile full wrap warranty. Got both for $2k combined. Was planning on paying for it separate instead of financing but with the .9% APR/66 months, it didn't make much sense. Anyway, I live down the street from the Moritz Alliance dealership where I leased the '18 from so I will get all my service done there instead of the Hurst location.
