Engine Lifter Noise

Most manufacturers don't even print paper service manuals anymore. All service information is electronic and available to dealership techs through a manufacturer login.

There are 3rd party service information sources like Alldata or Mitchell on Demand.

Yes, I'm an old service manager so I'm more than familiar with the likes of Mitchell and Chilton et.al. Perhaps the trend in recent years is to keep the techie stuff to yourselves. Sad what we can't learn these days, however. Not worth a subscription for mere curiosity.....

Just another way to "persuade" people to bring the car in for service...have to drive revenue after the initial sale.

Do all Stingers have a very loud, What I believe is lifter noise, on cold starts? Mine does. It last 30 seconds to a minute and sound like a diesel truck. It's quiet on warm starts. Kind of embarrassing considering what I paid for the car. DOn't hear it in an Audi S5 Sportback. I understand the noise happens because kia uses solid lifters instead of the hydraulic lifters like most manufacturers? Anyone know have this same issue and can confirm the cause? I went to the dealer and they said it was normal. I had them cold start a new one siting on the lot and it sounded the same.
I do have that same cold start noise. Like you I was not happy the first time I heard that awful noise. My dealer also said that it was "normal".
If this is only 1 of a few flaws in this beautiful piece of machinery I can live with it.

I'm pretty sure that ticking noise when starting the engine cold is normal for alot of cars. It's the injectors.

It is the same noise i had on my 2007 sonata V6 which used the previous generation engine.

I also have the same noise at start-up on the 2.0T engine.

just heard lifter noise on my stinger after 10 days of not driving.

How could you not drive your Stinger for 10 whole days?!? I get Stinger withdrawals over 1 night! Lol

driving the wife's highlander, worked out though, it was raining most of those 10 days, now its sunny. back to the stinger!

For the first time today, I witnessed the clicking noise as I was at a drive thru with my window down. Not too bothersome if you ask me. Although it def didn't make the car sound like a sports car. The exhaust being so quiet the clicking made it sound like I was in a camry.

whew, that is a relief, was wondering when i could take the stinger in for service, i just noticed it the other day, being that i really don't drive the stinger that ofter, the it is the mrs car, and i thought something was wrong. that is a relief. but, i had a ford bronco waaaaaay back in the day, 3.0 straight six that had serious injector noise, and it didn't sound like this. this is more like the land rover discoveries infamous ticking engine.

I believe the noise you guy are hearing the the high pressure pump and the injector working. They are loud. I'm a kia tech and have a Stinger my own.

The noise you are hearing is the high pressure pump. They push about 2000psi at idle and about 6 all the way up to 22000psi. I'm a certified Kia Technician.
Thanks...glad you’re on the forum! I’m hearing a “winding down” type sound when I park the car and shut off the engine. Not unlike you hear in a commercial airplane when they pull up to the gate and shut down the engines only not as pronounced. I’ve never had a car that does this. Is this sound normal?

I can't say without hearing it.

I being noticing in my car the same issue, i don't know if this is normal but for moment sounds like it the engine is going to stop

I believe this is the turbo winding down--most newer turbo-equipped cars run some sort of turbo timer to limit damage from abrupt shutoff, I'd imagine, though this is just conjecture on my part. That was my impression the first time I noticed it.

I'd imagine it is some sort of turbo cooling system for getting the temperatures down after shutting off the motor.

My golf R had the exact same system which was extremely audible.

This clattering is an unfortunate by-product of direct injection. Annoys me on every DI car, not just the Stinger.
