EK1Pro Tune - Sixth Element

from what I am told, boost safety forces the car into limp mode.
Not only did I go into limp mode but went into Map 8 when I came to stop and hit stop log. Here is the log grouped together. 1st one was a 0-60 without LC because of wheel spin. 2nd is after putting 4.5 gallons of E85. I still l peaked at 27.5 boost and went into Map8. I downloaded the latest firmware after the runs. I also attached Map6 settings. HELP.

Go ask kia or any shop with fancy scanner that costs several thousand dollar to scan your wastegate voltage, set point and position at ACC mode and print it out for you. Make sure wastegate is not off spec before proceeding to dial a full tune. It was all over the place for our car and G70 and even worse for 2022 models.

Map 8 is valet mode, actually subtracts boost from normal.
Weird.

Yeah I know. I've never used Map 8 yet alone chose it as a setting. I know I was in Map 6 when I did the pull and still logged 27.5 psi boost ‍♂️

Not Kia but I'll have my mechanic check it when he installs my new AWD transfer case.

Send Sxth these so he knows whats going on, also, you peaked at 24lbs of boost, not 27.5, that 27.5 is what was being requested, not delivered. The second row of numbers is what is actually delivered. Its still off though and you are still getting pretty bad timing pull, even with an e30ish mix. How you went into map8 though I have no idea.

On the bright side, you don't have to worry about blowing anything up, as your IGN1 advance is so low that even with 27lbs of boost, you're not gonna do any harm. Maybe if you did 100 more pulls like this, something would happen, but just send Sxth the logs and they will handle it. Nathan is Very very good at what he does, but every car reacts different. My first tune actually did something very similar and it turns out I was mistakenly given an e50 tune.

Thanks man. How did my Map 6 settings look to you? I emailed Nathan and sent him my logs.

about as clean as one can get, looks like nothing is changed in them.

So Nathan is telling me it's the EWG wires and mapping conflicting with the ECU. I'm confused because I have EWG control disabled on Map 6. He suggest disabling JB4 or removing the EWG wires entirely.

When i tried the stage 2 I put the JB4 in Map 0, but have it running the meth control still

well, try it and see what happens. I don't have EWG wires installed personally so I couldent tell you.

EWG wires can cause long term issues with cars. We have encountered this quite a few times as has LAP3, AutoJoy and NKLAB.

The ECU uses a long-term adaptation value to better control boost pressure and deliver smooth performance. It does this by taking readings from the electronic wastegate actuator lower adaptation stop points. This value is written to the EPROM and is not reset when flashing the ECU. The value is then passed back to the wastegates. EWG wires from the JB4 manipulate this signal so an improper value is written back to the ECU and thus, transferred to the wastegates. When tuning, this throws things off completely. This is why we are placing notes that we will not tune cars that have or have had EWG wires going forward.

That's what I originally did but I was still overboosting and came to find out that there is no boost safety with the JB4 if it's in Map 0. I was getting over 27 lbs of boost and started getting nervous about not having a limiter.

so if you fully remove the EWG wires from the JB4 will that allow the wastegate to work as stock or once they are hooked up, and used it messes with them permanently?

For one vehicle in the Netherlands we changed the ECU and the turbos. One car in Korea we just changed the ECU.
There is no way to write back original stock values to reset them?

By opening the ECU and flashing with a virgin file, yes. But this means you need to original, untouched EPROM from that specific vehicle.

Ok, so basically anyone who has hooked up a JB4 with EWG wires is f&*%ed unless they fry their ECU, and get kia to replace it.
