If you get the car repainted, the thinking then is you don't HAVE to get the car PPF wrapped, because the paint will be totally fine. So claiming that to Kia, in my opinion, doesn't really fly.

I agree.

However, if as in at least one case on a separate thread on this forum, they did not take the car to the primer.

I am not trying to be argumentative, I am simply stating facts as they are presented.

So I am dropping my Stinger off for Repaint...

If the car is painted properly, then, you are 100% correct, I will have no claim and none such claim will be made. If, on the other hand, the case is not handled properly, what would be the recourse that you would choose?

I do not care to revisit this, nor do I care to travel the same path as @Luminary has.

If it's done by one of their preferred vendors and not done to your satisfaction, I would get the money back for the car. Wash my hands of it.

If you live in a place where rocks are constantly on the road, its a necessity to have a PPF to keep the car looking new. AZ is horrible.

Yes sir, again you are absolutely correct. My only concern is that if the issue does not resurface until after December, I might be stuck.

This is where my concern is now.

In my blue case, Kia said they would repaint the affected parts if i agreed to protect it afterwards. Close to getting final approval after 2 months.

They will paint it IF you agree to protect it?? WTF does that mean? They have no confidence in their paint or process on this car? They expect you to pay to have it wrapped with xpel if they paint it? Tell them to stick it in a very dark place.

PPF and a quality paint job have nothing to do with each other. You don't put PPF or ceramic on crappy paint to keep it in place. That happens to be an outcome of paint protection when bad paint is discovered later, but the decision isn't "put on PPF/ceramic and your (crappy) paint will last a little bit longer!" You put on PPF to preserve the paint from damage. I feel like this is a no brainer.

The implication was they would pay this time but would not again so needed the PPF. Remeber Kia has not admitted any problems with non Yellow colors so take what i can get.

Right, but it's not a reason for Kia (or any car manufacturer) to pay for PPF if the paint is done properly.

That's really weird, not my case at all. Honestly, that sounds insane...a company wouldn't force you to do anything if they're painting the car under warranty.

They seriously said "We'll only paint your car for you if you pay to have it protected afterwards"? No offense to you, but I find that hard to believe, on the basis it just sounds crazy!

Maybe something is lost in translation? I bet that the intent was, "We'll repaint, and to make sure you are totally satisfied (and we don't hear from you about this again!) we'll even throw in a PPF/ceramic coat as a goodwill gesture; use that $5K we're sending you to pay for it." But the way it came across is, "We'll only guarantee the paint job IF you also get a PPF/ceramic coat with it."

If KIA would have never admitted to this misstep , I would have still enjoy the crap out of this car. If KIA would have never offer to repaint for free, I would still enjoy the crap out of this car. If KIA would have never offer a free loaner while the Stinger is being repainted, I'd still would be enjoying the crap out of this car. If KIA would have never offered to give you 30 days after the repaint to decide whether you'll keep it or take the other 2 options , I'd still enjoy the crap out of this car. If KIA would have never offer to give me 5000.00 dollars for my trouble, I'd still enjoy the crap out of this car. And at the end of it all and my 4 year lease is over, and I'm experiencing additional paint issue. I get to turn in my car. I would be able to reflect and say, DAM!! I really did enjoy the crap out of this car!! What a CAR!!! What a company!! Thanks KIA.

Considering I was content with Touch-up painting as needed, I'm taking that 5000 and heading to Disney!!

Isn't this more in the nature of a separation into two categories? Those Yellows who want to proceed with the letter will receive further instructions: those who don't will be weeded out, because there is the time limited to the end of this year. After that, anyone coming to Kia with specific gripes based on current dialogue will be limited to 36 month warranty only claims. Right now, Kia is making it clear that they admit fault with the Yellow. They may include the other three problem colors (Black, Red and Blue), we don't know at this point. Probably Yellow is a test to see how this works out going forward. So of course the letter isn't going to be an actual contract, only an introduction (official to be sure) and invitation to take up Kia's reaching out.
The repaint MUST be done BEFORE the other two options can be exercised. Many details surrounding the repaint but very limited, if any, details surrounding the other two options.

PPF def needed in AZ to keep rock chips at bay...no other way unless simply dont drive the car. Its the nature of living here. I for one, will be seeking PPF compensation since i had already applied this on day 2 of ownership. They MUST remove my PPF to fix their paint issue and it is only reasonable they should either pay to reinstall or reimburse.

If KIA wants me to repaint and then decide within 30 days, so be it...i will be a crazy man inspecting the repaint and any issues, well, they can have it back. I will attempt to get details of the buyback when called for my follow up as i want written proof of the buyback details. Take my sales agreement + PPF and Tint and cut me a damn check is fine with me...ill pay off the balance to the credit union and keep the rest.

Agreed to all...this will not affect my enjoyment of the car whether or not i keep it and take the cash or dispose of it...either way...its been a blast so far!

If you already got the PPF done, then I totally get that.

I guess for most others who intend to keep their cars or buy out the lease, they are left to wrangle with Kia.

Why would you buy out your lease if you thought you'll be wrangling with KIA? Those of you who have purchase thru finances have a way out. Why does there have to be any unsatisfied Yellow Stinger owners? With all the other color Stingers receiving nothing atm, lets be a little more appreciative.

No, very wrong. "We will repaint it if you agree to protect it". No misunderstandings or translation errors. Mine are all chips, so if they wanted to claim all 50 chips in less than 3k miles were caused by rocks I guess they could. Seems fair to me. Probaably should have done PPF in the first place and now i can.

I understand, Jason, and thank you for your contribution. If you look closely at the picture, you will see a definitive lift of the paint which indicates the paint is not adhered to the bumper. We've pressed and attempted to make my bumper and headlight rub against each other in every way imaginable - they do not rub. The Kia determination thus far is this is not caused by rubbing. As Kia gives me more info, I will share it.

The plan at this point is a new bumper is on order and will be painted in full before replacing the factory bumper.
