It would be interesting to know how many people have changed their vote that was previously cast. I see the "change vote" button on the survey and am curious to know if anyone has used it. I currently have no issues with my Ceramic Silver color (3/18 build date), but I am keeping a watchful eye.Over the last couple of weeks the only increased votes are "no", and yeses in red and black. Yellow and blue have stayed the same. There have been the odd "yes" in one of the other colors. Today the vote count is 108. Back on the 14th Instant the total was 83.
@StungnTn:, ah, you are the new "Yellow" vote this morning. I keep fairly close track of this poll, for intellectual reasons only: it is my contention that this poll only draws yes votes by virtue of a web search for failed paint jobs on Stingers. Others are not looking and only come across this issue accidentally; thus the minority of no votes. You'll notice that there is very little participation on the poll despite it having been up since early this month (it barely topped 100 in the last couple of days). This is an indicator that there is not a large scale, worldwide problem with failing paint on Stingers. You are one of the unlucky few.
I agree with the comments above praising Kia for being willing to own this and handle the corrective measures fairly. There will be a few cases where dealers drop the ball. But Kia isn't going to let their brand new "flagship" car become a "family pariah". That would ruin them. I believe that they will even take financial loss temporarily early in the marketing game in order to guarantee their reputation as the world's leader in warranty reliance and quality service. The Stinger is a well developed machine and of good quality throughout. A paint issue on a relatively few cars should not even make it onto most people's radar.
Interesting but not anything new that we do not already know. Now we wait for resolve. We sold a yellow GT2 so I am just as concerned that my customer gets taken care of.Found this...
Enough of an amount to cause considerable concern in my opinion. As I've been shopping for a Stinger I couldn't help but notice that most of the yellow ones in my area (DC,VA,MD) are now on the showroom floors. What is most alarming to me is that as I observe the various stinger forums and facebook stinger groups online, more and more people are coming forward with this issue in all colors. I used to think my first choice (snow white pearl) was the safest but almost daily someone new is posting pictures of their paint issues. My ducks are in a row for a purchase at the end of summer but I honestly need to see how KIA handles this situation or if changes were made for the 2019 models to resolve this. First model year teething, to be expected, but peeling paint / rock chipping after barely any miles on the car???So i just want to point out something, in the US there are 400 yellow stingers. At this moment by just checking cars.com there are 86 Yellow cars available in the US. So out of the known 314 that have been sold 13 have come on this site and voted yes. That's almost 5% of them. That seems to be a considerable amount to me.
Thoughts?
I would look at it as the glass is half full, 95% have not had a problem. Now if your one of the 5%, that does not help.So i just want to point out something, in the US there are 400 yellow stingers. Ya but you've got hundreds of people who are not as anal and who never look at the paint. They have issues and no clue about them.I would look at it as the glass is half full, 95% have not had a problem. Now if your one of the 5%, that does not help.

So with them, there's no paint problem.Ya but you've got hundreds of people who are not as anal and who never look at the paint. They have issues and no clue about them.
So when was your build date?I am, as of now, in the 95%. Doesn't mean it can't change in the near future.
This is odd. Why would Kia put a better quality paint job on a $23K car than on the Stinger? I believe that their painting processes are the same throughout. If anything, the Stinger would receive a better paint job than the economy models. So this must be early hitches in the gitalong of production. "It's so hard to find good help these days", applies anytime a company is creating a new manufacturing "arm". The Stinger is its own "division", requiring new personnel and the training that goes into all of that. So the earlier cars (like yours) would have been the "guinea pigs". The 2019s will be well addressed. Even the early 2018s seem to be better controlled for assembly line quality checks. My Silky Silver has paint in the trunk well, not some "yellowish looking primer". The underside of my hood is not clear coated but appears to have a full coat of paint. I hope you are wrong too, about the paint holdup.Just did a pretty detailed full inspection on my silky silver. For comps, I used our 2017 Sportage with 16,000 miles on it we got used in January.......from the same dealer. A few interesting findings. Overall, the Sportage has the better paint job inside and out. Both under hood and in trunk have full paint with even clear coat under the hood. No failure signs. The 11/17 stinger has little paint (thin) under the hood and none in the trunk, just some yellowish looking primer there. No signs of failure around lights or doors or elsewhere, but I found it interesting that the hood latch was fully rusted where it strikes. Sportage was not. Also found a surprisingly large chip inside the hatch fully rusted. Scraped it down to bare metal and painted it. Did not take much effort. There was nothing hitting in the area either. Pic attached. When I just had it at the dealer for the fuel pump replacement, they had checked it for the hatch rattle, which I had fixed months ago myself. Apparently they didn’t see the obvious rust that I found. I am not a paint expert but if I had to bet money, which I guess I have on the Stinger, its paint job will not hold up nearly as well as the Sportage long term. I hope I am wrong.
I keep going back to what KIA told us in Stinger training.......The Blue and Red receive a special paint process. I am now wondering what is different and or special? This is odd. Any changed votes would be from "no" to "yes". I can't see why someone would do the reverse. But the "no" votes increase faster than the "yes" votes. This morning: three "nos" overnight, with one new Red "yes" vote overnight, now standing at 112 total votes. It would be interesting to know how many people have changed their vote that was previously cast. The implication is interesting: Net awareness in potential buyers, and dealerships are also not pushing the Yellow because they'll have to take pics and get all involved in angry customer returns to claim warranty, etc. Could dealers send back 2017 built cars and trade them in on 2018s? Or is Kia going to lose less on repainting "out in the field" as it were?Enough of an amount to cause considerable concern in my opinion.
