I don't really understand... it was launched on Korean market more than a year ago already, right? KIA knew about a problem almost from the start. Year passed, nothing fixed, process not changed. WTF?

Btw here somebody from AU said that he has metal hood instead of aluminum and has no issues. That means he may have car which painted differently? Different markets get different hoods?
Yeah, and do we know what other panels on the car are aluminum? Is it only the hood?

yep that’s me I put a magnet on hood and it stuck. However the paint on plastic trim is very thin and would most likely peel off if you blasted it with a pressure cleaner.

Call KIA HQ and get a claim number before taking it to the dealership. 1-800-333-4KIA (4542). HQ will ask you to take it to the dealership for pictures.

Do not call that customer service number. That's the normal CS line. Stinger Owners have their own Customer Service line to call, which is documented in the thread along with how to go about getting the case started and pictures taken at a dealer.

I would definitely say I have a problem... each tape mark is a problem. (some of course could be rock chips. Been driving it for a little over a month). 12/17 build.
Wow. Nice visual with the tape.

Any updates? Anybody? Any official news? :)
Really wanted to buy a Stinger, made prepayment, my Sunset Yellow is in production atm. Wondering if I should go and take prepayment back.

Don't worry, its all be taken care of. It just takes some time to get everything rolling. I would say that if yours is being made now, there is a very high chance that you will not have any paint issues, it may take a while for your car to get built though.

Ok, so I have a Micro Blue rwd 2.0. My build date is 12/17. I had the entire front end wrapped in clear bra, but not before having them do a full detail and paint correction first.

I asked for them report back any paint chips or the like, and they said no chips whatsoever after 2400 miles. There were 3 areas where it appeared that small stones hit, but they were all on the grille surround. I've tried to be careful with her, but I'm sure no more than those who have reported issues. My heart goes out to those owners.

On a related note, does anyone have a Micro Blue with a 12/17 whose paint has NOT shown issues?

Maybe, but you seen my post there Paint Chip Issue ? If it was known issue before, do you think anything changed? No confirmation from KIA that "problem solved" yet. "our engineers are working" etc. Ofc KIA will not go public on that, I think.

Btw, if anybody have access to KIA's TSBs: is there a TSB on paint issues maybe? TSB document usually contains info on what cars affected.

Try to search for damaged dark chrome pieces as well.

well there have been two people who have said that they have head from KIA that they are aware of the issue, plus the guy in Australia who got KIA to repaint the entire car. The other thing i have been mulling over is the fact that they say they tried to use a new painting method cause of the aluminum hood. so far almost everyone has stated that they don't have an aluminum hood so i'm guessing they went back to steel so they could avoid the paint issue. KIA has been painting there cars for a while now with steel so, like i said. I wouldn't worry to much, most of us who have issues have a build date from 2017.

That Russian guy had April 2018 afaik (but that production date could be our internal date, we have re-assembly facility here in Russia to cut the costs of cars production i.e. original details could be produced and painted long time ago). But I hope you're right. Will follow the news.

I have an 11/17 Micro Blue with no issues at about 2600 miles. Paint is spotless.

Thanks for posting! I know this thread is for paint chips, but I think it might ease some anxiety for some to know not all models from around the 11-12/17 build dates are showing the issue. Again, my heart goes out to those owners who are affected by this. I just hope there isn't needless worry across the board, though of course time will tell...

I'm sure that's part of what is taking a long time for Kia to look into. You can about guarantee that they are looking at all of this info, and most likely going over the pre-production cars and show cars with a fine tooth comb in order to figure this out.

Hey @gilthanis1 have you heard anymore about your case? How long did they take to get back to you after taking it to the dealership with the case number (even just a "we're looking into it" call)? I'll be at a week tomorrow without hearing anything.

Look at all the press cars that are out on the road. Probably a lot of journalists looking at the alleged "rock chips" thinking......Man, we drove the balls off of this Stinger!

Well.......We just got a email. Micro Blue has been lifted from the stop sale. Do not ask me why. We have no idea. I will try to find out more information. Tinker Bell could have sprinkled Pixie dust on it overnight and everything is now corrected.Only thing that seems logical at this point.

Yes, a page or so back I posted where I did receive a call from Brad Holt, National Manager of Consumer Affairs for KMA.

After I went to the dealership and took pics, I waited about a week and then called Kia back as I had not heard anything. The next day I received a call from the dealership about taking the car to the body shop for a more thorough examination and pictures. Next day after I dropped the car off I was told the pics went to Kia and I got a call from Brad Holt about a week later.

My suggestion, call the Stinger CS line back with your case # and ask where they are with your case. I was extremely nice to them every time I called because those CS reps can't give me a solution, but I did let them know I wanted an answer.

No Tinker Bell here in Russia, unfortunately...

But we have Baba Yaga, that may help :D
