I have two paint issues on my 2019 GT2. Bought the car on August 15th. I know these are not from debris on the road. Going to the dealership after work. One is on the back right quarter panel. The second is under the driver side door.

Any thoughts?

Poor paint jobs on a lot of these vehicles. Report it to your dealer and ensure that they report it to the District Parts and Service Manager (DPSM).

Seeing these makes me really happy that I got the roof wrapped, including these strips.
Without knowing what made them crack, they may leave "eggshell" all over your wrap when it is removed. I hope it is a UV issue and you are safe!

Add me to the list... Went by my dealership today. They said it's a common issue. But it's not covered under warranty because it's been deemed a weather/atmosphere issue. It's not the paints fault. Ummm... What? So I have to pay to fix this so my car doesn't look like a 1996 Toyota Corolla on the roof?

No, push your dealership for those under warranty. I went in a month ago and they are ordering me new trim pieces. They are on back order, it's a known issue. Go to a different dealership if you can.

Sweet Baby Jesus. Have not seen this yet. Do you live on Mars?

You need to open up case with kia. Mine did same thing . They replaced under warranty know problem. But I had them put on unpainted plane black. Looks good know problem.also watch your black chrome door and hatch molding it will discolor bad also. They replace them all once. And 8 months later already discolored again. Getting new ones rapped in black and reinstalled.

Saying this is “normal” is a normal Kia response. It’s why they cannot sell more high end cars. These aren’t Sephia’s with hamsters driving them. Call the Stinger line or go elsewhere. Totally unacceptable.

You can call Kia customer service or go to a different dealer. That dealer is out of their mind to tell you that's not a defect and isn't covered.

You know how the world is going .it seems to be the only way you can get anything done or covered is you have to fight over every little issue.

Call this number if you have this problem or any with your Stinger! Just got off the phone with them and the guy was in shock they wouldn't take care of the issue. He's like, this is your 5th Kia from that dealership and have spent over $100k on cars with Kia and they wouldn't help you? He is calling them tomorrow to talk to them, get a quote, and told me it would be covered and that they would handle it. Assuming this all happens, pretty great response and a direct line for K900 and Stinger owners.

Man your my twin I’m on my 7 kia from dealer. So kia keeps track of that good to know. No wonder they always take care of things on car.

Yo Orlando dad bod. Don’t get them painted. They come black . Looks better and won’t get crappie in future.body guy told me it is a reaction of paint and clear coat on plastic. He said they will just keep cracking. They have tried to repaint a few cars and with in a few months cracked again. Just another choice you have.

How do explain cars (like mine) that don't do this? Apparently, something inconsistent in the painting process is causing this on some strips. Or, some climates play hell on this plastic part, but evidently not the bumpers.o_O

Yes I noticed mine got really badly cracked last year here in south Florida when it was really warm then cold front came through. Then the paint shattered like someone hit ice with a hammer.

Dealership gets paid for warranty work, perhaps at a rate less than a cash paying customers. Try another dealership. No reason to deny it, especially if it's a known issue.

I'll try to imagine it today when I look at my car this morning. Not sure if I'll like it or not. But it's a good idea. Thanks for the tip.

Replying to this thread in general, but knowing that Merlin is omnipresent :-) ... Way up there someplace on this thread I posted my absolute disgust at the paint issue with this otherwise fantastic car. I have the rim-of-the-hood paint issue that a dozen other owners posted about. SO pissed off about it. This is the spot where near the wipers where the dealer told me "somebody" pulled up the wipers to replace the blades and scratched off the paint. Really? Service manager says "Call KIA". I did - 3 times - argued with this nincompoop (politely) til I was blue in the face. KIA basically told me - "too bad". I was shocked because we've owned 3 other KiA's and have totally satisfied with the way they backed their vehicles. None of which were close to the MSRP of my GT2 AWD,
It's a real sore spot with me... as you can probably tell. It's my lone ownership black-spot of this otherwise great machine. This first-year car that wowed us car enthusiasts.., and they screwed up on basic blocking-and-tackling like paint?!? GEEZUS, I'm STILL pissed about it!

I’m up to four! Hopefully that helps me in the event I need it.
