I didnt touch my paint up. If i would have when they took pictures for a second time what would they have to analyze / evaluate? I would have been out of luck.
Kia had the original pictires they took, i uploaded extensive picture's and documentation and they still needed another round of pictues.
As I said, your story is uniquely bad. You kept all your original pictures. If the dealer took them, they should have delivered up copies to you on demand. Later, when Kia went back on their agreement, you could produce the same pictures again. Them demanding new pictures is their "privilege", but there is no way that subsequent pictures would hide the touch up; each touch up would be in the same location as the earlier flaking/chipping pictures. I think that you've been poorly handled. But you've also not been as nice to yourself as you could have been. I think that driving around a car that has blatantly chipped and flaking paint is, as I already said, asking too much!

When i met with the Kia district manager about my paint chips he said "you dont want a partial or full repaint, it will never be as good as from the factory." I'm like yeah i know but what choice do i have? If i was yellow i would not be taking the repaint.
Did they not give you the same options the yellow stingers get? swap/repaint/buyback?

Read back through this (the longest) thread: no triple option deal offered to other colors, only Yellow.

"We" think that individuals with other failing colors will get the triple deal eventually, but only on a case by case basis. Yellow is the only color that gets the triple deal with all cars in that color.

Update on my roof ditch moulding paint chip reported earlier in this thread: I wasn't keeping on top of my case, due to a month dominated by computer problems, HOA crises, a miserable summer cold, and life-in-general. Gotta keep on those folks constantly! I called this morning to find out that the second set of photos my service manager took on August 3rd still have not made it into my case file! (The first set, taken at my dealership June 28th also were "lost.") They may be with the district service rep or they may have never left the dealership. This time I finally got the email address of my case manager, Yeimy, from Judy and sent the three pictures I had taken (and which she had originally said I needn't send), along with an email explaining both the times I'd already had pictures taken at the dealership. I also pointed out that since the closest dealerships are 12 to 16-1/2 miles away in L.A. County traffic, I don't want to have to go in to have more pictures taken.

It's just one itty-bitty paint chip that shouldn't take more than an afternoon to fix (even if they have to replace the moulding), and all I want to know is how it can be fixed and whether it's my dime or theirs. This should be easy for them, and shouldn't take this long.

Aarrgghh! I don't know how those of you with real paint problems maintain your sanity. (Well, maybe some of you haven't, but I'm not judging you, just sympathizing.)

There has been no evidence at all that other colors will get the triple deal. Everyone has been told its case by case and if Kia agrees they will pay to respray the affected parts.

My build date is 5/18 and I’m having paint chipping

Well, if i base "good as from factory" on the paint currently applied to my car then i would say he is full of it. "from the factory" in my case includes bumper flaking and now flaking on rear pax doors. Reading about 5/18 builds having issue now just confirms my decision to not swap as well.

Still waiting to review a local yellow being repainted before the final decision is made.

@Abaloz, do NOT let them chalk those up to road damage...they tried on another one near me with damage in similar spots!

@Abaloz has other damage than around the hood badge. Judging by the pics he posted on the other thread, none of that could be caused by damage.

For those with paint issues, when did they start showing up?
This thread is long, I know. I picked it up on page 23 back in June. But I read the whole thing. And I've stuck this thread out; every line of text since then. What you ask is answered back there. But the short answer is a generalization: early in most cases, within the first couple of weeks. Some were already exhibiting paint issues on the dealership lot and were not noticed until the Stinger was taken home and examined more closely over, say, a weekend. Some of these were damaged, not paint failures. Some are a mixture of both.

I've got the HiChroma Red, and I've noticed chipped paint at the hard edges. Door, rear bumper, both on drivers side. I'm going to do a detailed walkaround and contact Kia VIP for some guidance before I head to the dealer. But it's very odd. My previous car was 83000 miles and 5 years deep, with nary a chip. I'm concerned...

Thanks Merlin. I just went out to inspect my car in the dark. Probably need to wait till morning

One more thing, I was thinking of swapping the badges. Should I just not mess with that?
There are always badge swapping anecdotes on here. Some do it successfully and explain how. Others botch it. I'm in the "let the dealer do it" group (if I were to swap badges at all, which I am not going to do). Some of the botched jobs are because of paint adhesion issues, not anything they did wrong. That's why having the dealer do it (or a paint shop that will back/repair their work) is smart, imho. That way you didn't break anything.

Thanks. Shop for sure. I don’t DIY

I tried doing it myself and now my car is in the shop for a repaint... never again like @MerlintheMad says. It’s an adhesive issue. Me being a build of 5/18. I guess it never got fixed... watch them address the issue in the 2019’s ... what about us???? Lol

So the paint issues around your rear badge appeared AFTER you attempted to swap it? i was under the impression the damage showed after you did a simple car wash? Can you confirm which it was? Did you perhaps attempt to use a heat gun as that was my first thought when seeing your pics.

I washed the car first, then I attempted to take off the rear badge off. I applied goof off around the emblem and I attempted to remove the red badge using floss.wasnt budging, so I left my car for about a min to get more floss, then I noticed chipping.. thing is I don’t know if the solution dropped all the way down to the end of my hood as well as near my back up camera, cause I’m also having chipping there as well. So I believe it’s a combination of the car wash, the goof off, and the paint adhesion is poor, all that caused my chipping

So I looked as closely as I could this morning given Seattle's overcast light and couldn't see anything that concerned me at this point. The area under the headlights seems fine, panel joins/seams seem fine. The paint is coming off the locking arm for the hood (the square u-shaped piece that fits in the release mechanism), but I'm not sure why that would even be painted in the first place. Oddly the paint on the inside underneath the hood is a more muted shade of the paint (no clear coat maybe?) and the spray edge on the underside of the hood is not what I would call factory uniform.
This is fascinating. Is it luck of the draw and maybe I'm ok, or is this just a freaking ticking time bomb.
This is such a strange feeling. I specifically didn't buy a CPO BMW because I couldn't deal with shit going wrong and now all I can do is obsess over the paint. Ha.

I would rather have paint issues then electronics and engine issues lol
