Speaking from my own experience, I switched to Hawk HPS 5.0 pads with stock rotors at about 1k miles and had a good experience. I even had two days at the track and they were fine. Just doing pads first may be worth it if your rotors are in good shape to begin with.

However, I am by no means disputing the above post.

I agree, try the easiest and cheapest possible solutions first.
