Cpi vs Wmi

Not calling you a liar, but if Lap3 and CPI were the combo for full E85, I would think we'd have a BUNCH of Stingers running that (me included). Does the person you know with this set up post on any forums or groups?

There are two people on FB claiming it / posting about it, and Terry@BMS seems to agree with them..

I had a Devils Own WM controller fail once and puke a gallon of methanol into my intercooler overnight (mazdaspeed3). unbeknownst to me, I went out in the morning to start the car, and of course it hydro locked the motor and bent a rod. I no longer place trust and safety and reliability of a 10k+ engine on a $700 ish "fuel delivery" system...

Wait so it just sent the signal to spray with the car off? That's crazy

Not sure if anyone has answered you yet, but the reason you dont see more of it is because it JUST was done in the last week or so from what I have seen on facebook.

Yup. It somehow shorted itself internally and because it was triggered by power, not ground like some newer controllers it just emptied the entire reservoir into the intercooler

The pump was wired to constant power. I've never seen/heard of a kit that installed that way. I've used Snow Performance kits on two cars (WRX & Focus RS) and a DIY set up on my Impreza 2.5RS...never had any failures or issues.

Failure issues are 98% operater error. There is of course hardware failure in everything a small tiny %

So since the System worked flawlessly for over 2 years, and enabled me to make 388 WHP, and 420 WTQ, you think that it was still user error? My synopsis was that since Devils own used a power trigger system instead of a ground, that the tiny circuitry inside the controller couldn't handle the constant switching to power over and over every time the pump went on. But what do I know, I was just an ASE certified Master tech for 15 years so yeah, anything is possible

Again hardware failure. You get what you pay for.

Listen I can piss as far as you. You do you I do me.

If that is true, then why are you using a LAP3 WMI system instead of something good like Snow performance or Aquamist? It's only a matter of time before that thing shit's the bed and you melt a piston when the meth stops flowing

Well I have eyes I can see how much I have left in my 2.5gal tank. The thing that keeps me from CPI is e85 your MPG suffer significantly then your shooting more from your gas tank with fuel prices I will stay with WMI. Anything can shit the bed Amber.

Thanks Karen, I will keep that in mind. Happy motoring

It's @Avant and the posts were pretty recent so I don't think many people know simply because they aren't constantly digging through the forums like me haha.
Here's the forum post that I got some of the info from, page #7 to page #8

Wow, things got testy in here!

@GRNWNVY The amount of power you made is irrelevant to source or cause of the failure. I applaud your years as a Master Tech, but that doesn't mean the install was flawless... because human.

@playerbase I'll check it out. That's great if the corn fuel set up holds good. Let's see how things are in 10k miles.

Honestly I hope it does, the only concern I have is just being able to make it into a real flex fuel tune with the CPI and lap3 ecu so if worse comes to worse and I can't find e85 then I can fill up with just 91.

Should be able to, just a map switch. Was pretty easy with the Cobb AP. If the Lap3 is as robust as they claim, this wouldn't be too hard.

I know with the JB4 it's pretty easy quite literally a map switch as you said and the JB4 on it's own with CPI adapts to the ethanol percentage, however with the Lap3 tune not sure if would interfere with it at all since the JB4 is only used for controlling the CPI when running it with the Lap3 tune, so it if possible I'd rather have the eco mode be for 91 octane so a stock map while the sport mode is the actual stage 2.5 tune. I guess time will tell though, wanna see the long term results with CPI + Lap3 Stage 2.5 before I hop on it.
