Concerns - Popping/Creaking Noise from Sunroof

My sunroof noise is the metallic rattling type. It only occurs when the sunroof is in the tilt position. If I open it backwards a fraction and then put it back in the tilt position the noise stops. If I then close it and put it back in the tilt position the noise starts again. I have had the glass off many times and tried everything possible to cure this but all to no avail. I give up!

That goes right along with what @Kamauxx posted yesterday! You lift your sunroof ANY amount no matter how small and the noise goes away: because those "feet" are no longer contacting the depressions in the forward rail: so tilting the sunroof from a fully close position has the "feet" in full contact with the depressions. Get that metal to metal contact point insulated and it looks like the metallic extraneous noises will be virtually gone.

Have you tried to insulate the spring that the bug/wind deflector is attached to? While messing with the roof yesterday i noticed that the spring has the potential for causing quite a ruckus since it's metal and rests right over other metallic pieces. If I remember correctly I think it might sit right above a bolt.

Edit. Check the area pointed out in this pic. That has potential for metal on metal contact. And if this is your problem the spring could probably be bent a little to fix it.

I tried to replicate that on my personal vehicle. I push up on my sunroof and it does not make that noise. it makes a rattle slightly when I hit bumps (mine isn't really that bad tho) I'm pretty sure I know why. I believe it's the windscreen that comes up when the sunroof is open rattling on the front edge of the sunroof I'm going to put pads there now and see if it stops it.

I mentioned this a long while back as a likely culprit--it's spring-loaded!!!

But what can be used that won't get scraped off when the roof opens and closes and delete its usefulness? Or fall off and gum up the works?

I was going to use mini stick pads like someone else said that stops doors and cabinets from making noise when you slam them. They come in little circles with an adhesive back and they're like felt material. That should be able to Stick to the black part of the sunroof and rub against the frame of the windscreen and not come off. Us also noticed two areas one front one back that may be touching something as well and I was going to put pads there too.

I tried using fabric tape on the windscreen to see if that would reduce noise, it didn't. Instead, when closing the sunroof, it tried to pull off the windscreen, it popped one side out but didn't damage anything (looks like it slides off forward by design).

I've also wedged my fingers between the windscreen and the sunroof when tilted to press down the windscreen hard, it still rattled just as much as before. I never did try lifting it up but I don't know if I could wedge my fingers in there like that.

On the flipside, with sunroof tilted, if I push the sunroof UP in the front fairly hard when rattling, it does seem to subside.

Tapes will stick to the windscreen and pull it up. We need these but black. SoftTouch 4719095N 1 Inch, Linen, 48 Pack Heavy Duty Felt Furniture Pads-Protect Hardwood and Linoleum Floors frim Scratches, 48 Round https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001WAK5X4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Z.qNDbDX34W0K unfortunately my sunroof doesn't make that noise nor do any stingers we have here new or used. me and the mechanics kinda figured it out looking at all of our recent posts. soon I'll post pics of exactly where to put these pads that should stop all the rattling. It's just not easy because my car and none of the other cars here do it.

Yes but if I put it back into the tilt position the noise also goes away even though the feet are back in contact.

I removed the bug deflector entirely and it made no difference. But I am going to try the fix you described yesterday - if it works I'll buy you a pint of Guinness next time you're in Ireland!

Is this happening on 2019 models as well?

After 13 months, 13k miles I started hearing a creaking or tapping noise from front right/passenger side of sunroof. I rarely use the thing, but the noise (kind of like big raindrops or sleet would make if hitting the glass) is really annoying. I think it just started with cooler temps. Anyway, since i can't afford that Japanese Shiba Inu grease (besides, is it even ethical to use?), I opted to try dialectric grease which I had on hand. Carefully applied with a towel to the sunroof weather stripping/seal areas that i could easily reach, and for now the noise seems to have disappeared.

I tried the purple Meguiars High Endurance Tire Gel per CK-19 GT2's suggestion and it seems to have pretty much eliminated the little ticks I was getting from the sunroof seals. It likely did nothing for the popping, but I can't tell because it's gotten COLD quickly. I only heard 1 pop today, but I still heard one. Now all I hear are the friggen doors ticking!

IMG_20191011_152926.webp so I bought these today after searching for the right size all week. The question is do peoole wanna put them on top of the wind deflector or on the under part of the roof where it touches the wind deflector. I also have a couple other spots on the roof I think it could be making contact and should make a difference. What do you guys think. Would you mind the little pads being visible on top of the wind screen?

I think the first pick would be to have it be less visible wherever possible, but if only functional by being visible, most of us could live with that (I could). I have greasy upper interior door trim from constantly lubing the seals...so....

I took the wind deflector out entirely. It made no difference.

So who here is the South Florida Kia tech? I just took my car to the dealer this morning and they fixed the sunroof 100%. I want to know if you work for Gunther Kia.

I have no idea what they did !though, I won’t get my paperwork until i come back for other service they need to order parts for.

If guess the best option would be the part least exposed to wind.
