westcoastGT, I just wanted to extend a thanks for pushing your dealer and Kia on this. It's the owners like you that push for a solution that benefit all of us if we run into the same issue.
I think I just experienced the same sound yourre referring to. I notice it when it's cold and then it warms up inside. I noticed when I push in the done housing it makes that sound. Did you get a chance and remove the housing yet? I am curious as to how to remove it since it doesn't specify it in the manual and I don't know where the latches are
Hello. My Stinger 2.0 Premium has got 2500 miles on it, and its sunroof makes creaking noise louder and louder from day 1. I expected that the noise would be gone eventually, but turns out I was wrong.
I tried putting some velcro strips and spraying WD-40 which did not help at all. I went to the dealership today and mechanics there confirmed that my Stinger's sunroof was making excessive noise but were unable to fix it today.
They told me to bring my car in next Monday as saying that they have to open the entire ceiling panel and check it. I was wondering if anyone is experiencing the same issue.
I purchase my stinger gt1 in feb 2018. noticed sunroof noise right away. went in for service 3 times never solved the problem. the sunroof noise was always there. I was so pissed of I decided to try fixing it myself . first think I tried I applied a crap load of silicone casket lube. sure as hell it stopped the noise. I have had to apply it every few months. obviously the problem must be with the glass rubbing against the seals or the tolerances against the roof panels are to tight. what ever the problem kia engineers need to figure out. this car was way to expensive for a dumb issue for like this to happen. STILL LOVE THE CRAP OUT OF THIS CAR !!

I purchased my stinger gt1 feb 2018. noticed sunroof noises right away. Went in for service 3 times. Each time they removed headliner to try and fix the issue. Still the noise was there no matter what speed or what road surface. I got so pissed I tried fixing it myself. First attempt I spread a crap load of rubber silicone grease all over the sunroof gaskets. Sure enough stopped the noise and it lasted for awhile, I applied more that lasted awhile longer. it seems to last longer every time I apply more. Obviously the issue exists between the glass and the seals or the glass and roof panels being to tight. What ever the issue the kia engineers need to figure this one out. This car is way to expensive for this to happen. I still love the hell out of this car!!

Do report it into KIA Canada directly, I'm the first reported case of this so they're not taking any further action at this time. Unless there are more reported cases, they'll sit back for now.

I'll give them a call in the morning. Is it the same number as the customer service one? 866 something like that? I tried giving them a call for the reimbursement for the map and firmware version but I waited like 30 minutes and decided to just give them a call another day.

Lmao I wonder if we had purchased a more "Luxurious brand name" vehicle if they will "lose" our files. I guess this is where the offset happens for the price difference we paid lol. Unfortunate since Kia is trying to create a good image for this vehicle.

So far it's at least two for Kia, one for the critics; based on dealership experience; actually a little bit better than two pro to one con; according to that owners survey that was posted here a while back: nearly all the dealership experiences fell in the 700 range on a 1000 point scale: Kia was 731 (iirc) while some of the higher end brands were in the high 700s. Not a lot of difference there. Kia landed on the bottom, sure; but someone has to finish dead last even if everyone is setting new records for customer satisfaction. Someone will always be last. Kia's game is moving up all the time, rapidly in fact. I, for one, have not had a single negative experience with Kia since I "joined the family" last March. I've heard stories that run counter to my personal experience. And nobody's perfect, so eventually I will have a less than satisfactory experience over something. But, it hasn't happened yet.
Better quality leads to less dealer interaction for service , thats what the manufacturing side should focus on while the dealers and the Country Head Offices catch up . ! My impressions of Kia have diminished since dealing with their dealer service and Kia Canada trying to get my GT issues fixed . My 1st 2 Kia's were virtually issue free ,all Kia's should be as good as my Sorento !

When you say you lubed the sunroof gaskets, are you referring to the one continuous rubber seal that wraps around the sunroof opening that looks like the seals around the door openings? If so, how did you access the whole thing? The front half is easily accessible when the sunroof is open but the back half is covered by the glass with an extremely narrow clearance. How did you get in there to lube up the seal?

Mine started making terrible sounds yesterday (sounds like big rain drops on the sunroof, pops over bumps). When I got home I put a generous application of silicone lube on all the rubber gaskets in the sunroof and it seems to be normal again...so it might need an application every few months or so to keep it quiet, unless it gets worse.
As for application to the entire gasket, you can do the front half by opening the sunroof all the way. To get the rest, I did the very back of the gasket with the sunroof tilted only, then the middle section by putting the glass backward a little to get the most clearance for my fingers. This was done by applying the silicone to a microfiber towel (that is now destroyed lol) and working it into the very slim space with my skinny fingers. Honestly, the real application solution would to get a tool with a cloth or foam applicator, like maybe a small paint brush with a foam head to get in there. Something like this would work I bet:
