Center console switch out to Korean version with cup holder cover

Thank you @StingerGTandMe ! I got my cup holder in this am along with drilling to get the iPhone cord in the rear center console. Took me a while tho. I’ve had the car for a week, came out this morning and had a dead battery. Had to manual open the door. Took several tries to jump it off my ram 1500.
Then, taking off the original center console, a piece broke off and also got stuck in my shifter. Didn’t realize it until everything was back together and I couldn’t shift into reverse.
Finally, after shifting into park, then moving shifter forward I could go into reverse. I did it several more times and must’ve shaken it loose. Everything is working fine now, though.
The dreaded dropped parts. Yeah a lot of wires and things to be cautious Glad you got I back to working. What caused the dead battery?

No clue. Maybe it was in the showroom at some point and people were playing with it a lot? It had ten miles on it when I got it. No warning signs either, or slow starts...

Sorry for late response but it's good to hear that it didn't happen again. So it sounds like a 1 time thing.

you can have your phone charging on the Qi base and AA connected via the USB port on your phone

So the Qi feature is redundant, since it has to be plugged in anyway via USB, right?
Qi is redundant if using Android Auto. But when not using AA, its nice to tap the phone into the holder and have it charge while driving.

Qi is charging your phone wirelessly, the USB is only for data transfer. This is one of the main reasons to do the swap over to the Qi version, so you can AA and charge the phone at the same, since the US version only had 1 USB for data passthrough only and not charging when using AA or ACP.
There are two ports one marked as a USB (data trnasfer) and a second one with a lighting bolt (charger) on the US version. The one labeled USB does not have enough power to charge the phone while using AA, it can maintain the charge only.

Almost. Both USB ports will charge your phone, sending 5W of power. Only one on the original will also send data though. All 3 "choices" (2 USB ports and Qi charger) will charge your phone, but only the labeled USB port will do data transfer also.

It's generally not a good idea to have your phone sitting on a Qi charger and plugged into a USB port unless the USB specifically does not send any power as an "override" (USB spec is to provide power in all circumstances, while transferring data or not).

FWIW, I saw someone post this online:

Question: I want to buy a wireless charging dock for my S7 edge because my car's USB port doesn't output enough power to properly charge my phone and use Android Auto. Does anyone know if using USB disables wireless charging or can I use both a USB and charging dock?

Answer: Yea you can, I use android auto every day and put a wireless charger in my car with both my galaxy s7 and Galaxy s8. What happens is when you put the phone on the wireless charger and it picks up the chargers signal a little blip with pop up at the bottom of the screen saying "switching from cable charging to wireless charging" no extra app needed at all :)

Supposedly you get more amperage via the Qi then you can get via USB when using the data USB port on the car.

Whattya think? I ordered the iOttie from Amazon, but if you can't use it with AA running at the same time, I think I'm going to send it back or see if my wife wants it for her Subaru.

That functionality is going to depend on the phone. I suspect all Samsung's work similarly, so if you have an S7, S8, S9, or Note 8, I think you can assume they'll all work the same way.

Power pull is independent of data use for USB. The plugs send 10W of power, 5V/2A, while the Qi charger will be 5V/1A, 5W. You'll definitely charge faster through USB rather than Qi charging.

The Qi charging is just for wireless charge, just toss the phone on and it does it’s thing. iPhone 8 & X works, most flagship android phones will work also(quick google search of your phone can confirm if your phone can do wireless charging). For android auto and Apple car play you must be plugged it by USB. The main reason I suspect auto companies don’t let people use android auto and Apple car play without is due to distracted driving so by plugging the phone by USB it forces you to keep it out of sight. The Qi works great, I use it most times after work. I do plan to add the cup holder lid to my Stinger after my trip.
