Having a hard time deciding what to do after the unfortunate damage to my hood. Either way I'm going to spend money, damage is under my $500 deductible so insurance isn't going to really help there regardless of what I do.

The cheapest route is just getting it repaired for around $400-$500.

Middle of the road and probably the least amount of downtime is swapping to a Seibon OE style carbon hood which would be around $1100 including hood pins and sorta functional vents.

Higher and most time intensive option is getting a ventless hood and paint matching which would cost me around 1400 but I'd finally be rid of the stigma of fake vents and also a bit of weird history, since it's from a scrapped Korean Safety Test vehicle.

Last option and most pricey would be going with the Seibon and paint matching the top to the car which would total to around $1700, but also could do it later on mostly if I decide I don't like having a non paint matched hood.

What would you do and why? I keep bouncing through these options so figured I'd see what some of my fellow Stinger Owners have to say about it.

I'd repair it. That's because I want my car to look stock.

Put me down for the vent less hood !

Why ?
Looks cleaner and more sophisticated.
Easier to clean / polish.
No fake vents.

The Seibon OE style carbon hood looks very nice but the vents look like a good way to get some rain into your engine bay but not much more.

I'd love to see an R35 GT-R style hood for the Stinger with twin NACA ducts....

The vents aren't straight in, they go into a rail that kinda dumps any water up front. Still probably not all that effective at extracting heat but at least they're better than fake vents.

Really wish I could get the part number for the Korean Ventless hood. Only could find one and it needs a bit of work before paint.

Oh I see. Hard to tell from the pics. It does look nice though ( if you after that race look ).

If I can get a vent free hood I will. Its a work in progress.

Im a little biased due to the fact i love the way carbon looks polished up. We have talked before about this too. I was stuck between the oem CF and the SBGT (which i bought). The TS is a cool ass hood in person as well. Most are not running pins for what its worth, myself included. I get baby and i mean baby flutter at 100+ and still have no concerns. Its actually the flex in the hood, not front aero pushing up from what ive seen. Its my daily so im not racing or dragging it either. If i was gonna track it sure pins would have been on my list of to do's.
As for the ventless, its definitely cool looking so i cant say stay away from that either. But to go back to the original question, the damage for me would push me to change things up. Even if the cost was a little. Kind of opens the door to make it your own.

why have one hood when you can have 2. i had the ts and it got damaged so insurance bought me an ark SFX. the fitment is better with the ark but the polish and shine on the seibon was better. that said its easier to fix clearcoat than fitment.

If it requires work, how about getting a body shop to fill in the factory vents on the stock hood?

If you plan to keep the car for a few years or more, I'd say carbon hood. If you see yourself in a different car in the next couple of years, just have your hood repaired. Then you wont have to let the car go with a $1000-1700 hood on it

This is a good reason for an upgrade. If you don't mind doing pins, having the weight reduction of the new hood would be a nice benefit. However the cost if you don't want the CF look is gonna suck.

Rather not have a pound of body filler added to the hood to fill those spaces in

I keep my cars longer than most. If i do need to let the car go i'll still have the factory hood i can repair if i want i suppose.

I think I've settled with doing the OE Carbon hood.

If any of you were wondering about that Ventless hood, here it is in all it's Korean test car glory. You can still see the residue from the decals on it.
