Can’t make this sh!t up: I JUST HIT A F*CKING PORCUPINE GOING 60MPH! WTF?!?!?!

The raccoon/possum I hit came to $2200+, which included a new intercooler, and nearly 2 weeks in the shop.
FYI, repairs are now just over $3K.

Here is the damage... looks like it’s only the bumper and the plastic cover under the car. It doesn’t looks like the intercooler was affected, but with my luck.. :cautious: I also JUST had an aftermarket intercooler installed last week, so not sure how my insurance will treat that if there is damage to it.

Can we get some pictures of the porcupine?

Terrible news... My aunt from Connecticut just called to tell me that her accupuncturist was fatally wounded in a hit and run accident yesterday.

they do roll into balls don't they? or am I thinking of Hedgehogs and Echidna's ?
Yes, they do. Plus, they make a stench.

Sorry for the damage, @TStaino. Fingers crossed for speedy repair. But I'd been 'pining for a good laugh today, and the forum's punditry really did the prick.

I feel your anger (in a good way, not like the emperor). And I would be struggling to roll with all these jokes at your expense. Of course, everyone is also very sorry for you: and dark humor is a way of coping with disaster. I'm sure this couldn't happen to a nicer (less deserving) guy, and that makes feeling sorry for you (and your poor car!) doubly unwelcome. Jeez Louise, what a freak accident! (thanks for the pics; it makes it easier for me to visualize the justification for your rage)

Thank you for the kind words. And even the jokes at my expense have made me chuckle here and there. I must admit, some of them are pretty good and I know it’s all in good fun.

I’ve calmed down a lot in the last 24 hours, and I appreciate everyone’s sentiments. The community we have here really is first class.

I guess the worst part of it all was that I went out for a drive last night “just cuz” and I planned on garaging the car for the winter starting this weekend... I apparently have impeccable timing. But in the same breath, just like anything else... it could always be worse.

And I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again... it’s only money right?

Maybe the silver lining here is that I can stop obsessing over keeping the mileage low and being uber careful with it. Now that I’ve gone so far down the rabbit hole of performance mods, and my car is now a “one accident reported” vehicle, I’ve basically accepted my car doesn’t have a warranty anymore and essentially has no resale value now. Maybe this is my queue to go for the brake snip mod and solidify my dream of having “the fastest 2.0 Stinger in the world”.

Here’s to hoping!

@TStaino, obviously the main thing out of all this you weren't injured, I mean you could have swerved and hit a tree, cars are usually repairable and people not so.Hope you can get Stinger fixed soon.:)

I wouldn't worry too much about resale value due to minor cosmetic damage that is properly repaired. Chances are it won't even show up on a vehicle history report. A couple years ago my wife ran over a tire carcass in her 4 month old F-Pace and cracked the bumper and a few other parts similar to your Stinger. Jag parts are a bit more expensive and it was around $2500 to repair. Running over a dead tire, even though it was kicked up by another vehicle, counts against collision insurance. So it was $1K deductible on our policy. But the good news is that it didn't show up on vehicle history reports (due to smaller $ amount, not a police report/collision with another vehicle or property). Yours probably won't either. And it would also be considered under comprehensive coverage. So if repaired properly, minimal if any hit to resale value. If you haven't already reported to your insurance company, you might want to take it to a trusted body shop for an estimate as if you are paying out of pocket. That way, depending on your comp deductible, you can consider getting it repaired out of pocket if you fear it would be documented in history report. For example, if you thought your car's value would be diminished by $2K due to accident reporting and your deductible was $500 for say a $1500 repair, you might be better paying out of pocket and pretty much ensuring nothing goes on the vhr. Btw, sorry for all those porcupuns, and i hope they did not offend.

hitting a porcupine at 60 is more manly than a cement curb trying to park......kudos @TStaino

I exploded a raccoon once. Every dog that walked past my car stopped to sniff the left front wheel ;) but heyyy no damage. Must have been masked by the raccoon.

If you ask the swedish "Försäkringskassan" ("Swedish Social Insurance Agency" deals with stuff when you are sick to get some money etc) Then that upine is ready for 100% work already.

I dodged a bullet a few month ago, couldn't avoid running over a deer in the middle lane at HW speed, luckily it had been pulverized into a meat ball by the time I hit it, just clipped my undercarriage leaving a hairy blood streak.

I already reported it to my insurance, because I wasn’t sure if there was more damage than I could see myself... I’ve heard insurance will give you a hard time if you don’t report the accident almost immediately (or especially if you wait a week or two to report it). I guess better safe than sorry.

And for resale value, I don’t think I’ve got much of that anyway to be honest. Seems like resale for Stingers in general is not great (probably mostly because the initial value is so great because of the 10 year warranty, and if you sell it drops to only 5 years for the 2nd owner). I also have the 2.0 model and seems that those are even less desirable than the 3.3 so even though it’s a great car, I don’t have my hopes up for resale value.

I could be completely wrong here, but just what I think.
