Bye bye Stinger

Glad to you made it ok. The Stinger did well in keep you safe. I am one that thinks that another Stinger will be the best choice as you now know what the car can and can not do. The 2019s are by far the best Stinger's as they have included all the missing options. It will be a while for Kia to even to touch the platform.

Glad to see you're ok.

Regarding a new car, I have to say I test drove the G70 when my sister-in-law was buying a car and it is NICE. And this was only the 4 cylinder! Step up to our 3.3T and it'll be a damn rocket ship. The car just felt tighter and sportier to drive. It felt like a 3-series used to feel, which makes sense considering who engineered it. If I didn't need the space of the Stinger, I'd be straight-up lusting after the G70.

Isn't Volvo a Chinese company now? I miss the old 850 Wagons. Thought they were cool.

I still have yet to drive one of those. I'm hoping to one day this week.

I went to get my stuff out of the car today and with the bumper and fender off, you could see the bend in the "apron" (that's what they called it), were the spot weld was separating. It was on the ground so nothing to see underneath. It was sad to see her with the front and rear bumper off among other things. Wanted to take photos but forgot. Still my first choice though, need to get this insurance stuff done first.

You should take the small Stinger Badge off for memory. They will never notice its gone or miss it.

I had already replaced it with the larger one. I took the "E" badge out of the glove box, I never installed it. Now I have it for when I need to.

Glad to hear it didn't put you off - get some good winter tires this time around, and watch out for icing!

The G70 3.3T is freaking awesome! I only took it for a brief drive and I love the way it drives! It is firm without being punishing, the steering is tight in sport mode and almost feels like it's hydraulic. Drivability is similar, easy on start but even in comfort a little bit more effort gets you going while the Stinger would require a bit more. The comfort mode feels like like sport, not a huge difference, similar to how the Stinger's sport is not far off from comfort but to a lesser extent than the G70. My take on this, the G70 should have the Stinger's comfort mode and the the Stinger's Sport mode should what the Genesis has on comfort. Now I'm curious to know if the springs and shocks are different or if it just the tuning of the shocks. This reminds me of a 335, I drove back in 2010 how buttoned down it is. I'm smitten!

On the downside, the space is tight in the back and the trunk small, but we all know about that already. That's the main stand out negative for me. Material quality is good, sound isolation is excellent, so much so the audio system rocks at a setting of 10. The Stinger needs better glass to seal out noise. I'm going back to do a proper drive on Saturday and get some numbers.

Not to mention it's just not really that good looking. Certainly doesn't separate itself, looks wise, from it's competition.

I'll admit the Stinger's looks was a huge selling point for me. I might be the only one, but I like the name KIA and the badge too. I like the font and how it's three letters. I knew I didn't like the Hyundai badge, nor do I like pronouncing it, so the Veloster was out. The Genesis winged badges are too chrysler 300 looking to me. The KIA badge on the Stinger was my favorite. I am someone who bought a KIA for its badge.

I like the badge South Korea made for the Stinger better :-)

Told you ;) It's a thrill to drive, nice to look at, and gives you a ton for the money.

You are right, man. If only we could get the Stinger to feel like that car feels in comfort, for its sport mode. That buttoned down feel is what the Stinger is missing. KIA should make some suspension bits available and a tune to the shocks to give it a similar feel. Maybe someone will get into the software and come up with a tune on the shocks to have better dampening while improving the handling.

I’d rather have the comfort mode of the G80 Sport ;)

Then they'll lose people who prefer the current ride and handling - they made a deliberate choice with the combination they arrived at. They certainly had no lack of expertise with Albert Biermann involved, and they did a LOT of high speed testing and tuning. Yes, it's a compromise, but all cars are - and overall I'm very happy with the 'Grand Turismo' chassis tuning.

My feeling on seeing the G70 was these are two very different cars. It had just been released here before I bought my Stinger, but for various reasons (including the looks and sedan form factor) wasn't even a consideration for me. Wasn't for lack of trying on the part of the Genesis sales group, I assure you ... :p

If the G70 turns out to be a better fit for you and your needs/wants, congratulations! If you go that route I wish you many miles of safe and enjoyable driving.

The Stinger was very carefully designed to give the exact ride we have. There's nothing wrong with it for its intended purpose. You can change it/tune it to better suit your individual requirements or preferences.

Not being argumentative. I tested more compact and "better handling" vehicles myself. If I was going to have a dedicated fun car, it would likely be an M3 or perhaps the new Genesis (have not driven), or perhaps even a 911 (I was shopping in that price range) but I can't afford a dedicated fun-only car. The Stinger is fabulous daily, and great fun - if not as precise as those others - in the hills.

I'm one of the few here who actually likes the looks of the G70. The only thing I don't like is the size. But if the size works for you might also consider an S4. I believe the price is similar to the G70.
