Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

@Terry@BMS

Was looking at the updates on your forum and decided to ask questions here since a) I'm not a member there and b) people here can also benefit from the info.

From your post:
1) Added map4, valet map, which runs around half as much boost as stock. Perfect for when your "friends" borrow the car or when you want to resist the urge to waste fuel.
2) Minor boost target adjustments to all maps based on our latest dyno testing.
3) Added in logic for our new fuel control system which allows the JB4 to directly alter the air/fuel ratio when also equipped with add-on fuel wires. Currently interface is programmed so that under fuel enrichment by RPM you enter 100 to make the AFR target 1pt leaner than stock, for example. Values of 0 mean do not change AFR in this range. Do not change these settings unless also adding in the fuel wires or your AFR reading in JB4 logs will be inaccurate. Suggested settings are as follows. We currently limit each value to no more than 1pt leaner than stock (value of 100) for evaluation. On the dyno we found AFR leaner than around 11.2:1 at higher RPM resulted in no additional power gain.

Questions:

The minor boost adjustment for all maps (number 2) is this a 1psi adjustment? Something smaller/larger? Something we should expect to feel/see in the 1/4 mile? For someone running map 2 without fuel control wires will they be able to tell a difference between version 2 and version 3 of the firmware?

Does fuel control adjustment only work in map 6 since it's on the same page as map 6 adjustments?

Is there any reason why the fuel control should only kick in once in the upper RPMs? Are there downsides to having it available before 4500 RPM?

@RandallK you said you car is running great with map 3. Curious what type of fuel you're using?

Thanks gents.

You'll need to sign up there anyway to get the firmware updates and what not. :)

On the fuel control we discussed it in the dyno thread here: JB4 Stinger Dyno Testing

It's active and benefits performance on all maps.

The boost changes are 1psi here and there. We'll see how they do. With map1 we're always trying to offer something that has a chance of working on the stock plug gap, so in certain ranges it was detuned, and in others bumped up. On map2 we bumped it up a bit, we'll see how it does. Map3+ were more dramatically redone.

It actually let me download the file without signing up. I updated to v3 this morning.

It definitely feels like it pulls harder but that could be the placebo effect. (Running map 2)

With map 3 is 93 octane a no-go?

Yea I do believe you can update and do everything that is needed for the jb4 you just cant communicate in anyway with everyone else so all you can do is sit and watch :lipsaresealed:

I am running 93octane only on Map 3 without any issues...

Every time I have changed Maps, I have given it a few days for the ecu to adapt..

It’s pulling great and will order the fuel management tomorrow.

Nice! Keep us updated on how it handles with 93 octane. I'm tempted to try but not certain what Terry recommends.

The JB4 sounds really interesting to me, although I'm a complete novice when it comes to tuning cars and stuff. Is this something simple to install or it's better off I take it to a shop?

If anyone can direct me to a guide of everything about it that would be great as well!

Here's the website to buy:

2018 Kia Stinger JB4 Tuner | BurgerTuning.com

And the forum with all of the directions and installation instructions is here:

Kia Stinger JB4 Development - N54Tech.com - Your Source for International Turbo BMW Racing Discussion

Installation is really easy. Takes less than 5 minutes. As far as updating the firware and changing maps you just need to plug the JB4 up to a laptop (or get the Bluetooth connector thing) and change the values you want changed.

Before installing you do need to have spark plugs gapped to around .025 or so.

I am to but its definitely easy to install and I would definitely recommend getting the bluetooth added to the jb4 because it allows you to change things on the fly with a tap of your phone in the app oh and side note the app cost a extra 27 dollars just wanted to throw that out there because nobody told me before I got mine.

What plugs and gap and what fuel are you running sunoco, shell, BP ?

(Everything has been on map1) So after a long hiatus i finally put my jb4 back on, felt great for about 30mi. Before it began throwing a cel P0106, i tried updating to the newest version, i tried switching the connectors the reverse way, my plugs are all good, checked my intakes for leaks and no issues there. Anyone have this issue b4? This is my 3rd time dealing with this, everytime, i went back to stock andstarted from the beginning, but even with the catback and the intakes it only happens when i use the jb4, love when it works, but when it doesnt its a pita

P0106 is a MAP sensor fault. If it doesn't do it stock and you already replaced the sensor itself then maybe an issue on the JB4 end with that specific connection. Send it in and we can test/replace it here.

@Terry@BMS should we skip Firmware v4 if we haven't suffered the no boost issue and wait for v5 before updating again, or is it best to update to v4 regardless?

No need to update.

Okie Dokie Ive read every word of every post . I guess the beta testers which I hope are in direct contact with Terry, cause I see very little posts of folks logging their runs, and sending off to Terry...surely folks are sending logs of runs to Burger, and they are not posting what is really going on? Cause all I see is yeah she pulled real hard or she set the engine light after such and such...that doesnt solve anything without logging, and sending info to Terry...please clue me in....are we done with beta ,and have we got the real deal for sale now? I guess ill call Burger to find out the real poop....thank yall for doing the testing, surely there is more info going to burger than this thread gives me... from what ive read is tighten up the gaps.. run decent octane for sure....so are we good to go on a refined unit? regards Wash

The logs can't be posted here because the file sizes are too large. They are posted on the N54Tech forum.
