Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

For those not aware of these specific settings:

JB4 User Adjustment Settings as of v6 firmware:

Boost by gear: Enter amount of boost reduction in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear. Very useful for improving traction on RWD vehicles. We generally run 5psi in 1st, 1psi in 2nd, on our GT on stock tires to avoid wheel spin during launch mode. This reduces boost in 1st gear by 5psi, and reduces boost in 2nd gear by 1psi. You can reduce boost below factory levels as needed.

Fuel Bias: Used to enable fuel control wires allow direct adjustment of the air/fuel ratio as a function of boost and engine speed. A value of 100 is approximately 1.25:1 leaner than stock. Note the suggest settings and only adjust on the dyno or if working carefully off data logs.

Map6 Boost: Allows you to enter a customized boost profile. You'll enter only peak boost over stock here, so 6.0 means add a maximum of 6psi over stock, at that RPM point. The JB4 will blend this request with pedal input, engine temperatures, etc, to provide a smooth mapping.

FutureUseD BIT settings:

Bit0: Disable fuel control. Provides a quick way to turn off the JB4 fuel control without having to set all fuel bias values to 0. Useful for diagnostics.

Bit1: Enable to disable JB4 gas pedal mapping. Normally boost target is increased as a function of gas pedal input to ensure a smooth and predictable tuning increase. Default mapping is 0% boost until 30% pedal input, and a linear scale from 30%-100% input. Turning this bit on will disable this mapping and provide 100% of the target at all pedal inputs.

Bit2: Enable to disable JB4 warm up and over temperature protection. Normally boost is kept stock until oil/water temps are over 160F to properly lubricate the turbo/engine, and boost decays if oil temps exceed 280F. Turning this bit on will disable this protection.

Great information and awesome tuning features!

I believe you said boost by gear(BBG) activates at 70% throttle input. Is this adjustable? Would it be possible to have it activate only at WOT or 90% instead?

Boost target is also set by pedal input. So you're going to normally have a lower target at lower pedal inputs, the various JB4 algorithms all layer together.

Just curious - do you recommend your AWD customers set these to zero?

Generally yes you don't need boost by gear for AWD, although sometimes customers find launch mode works better with 1 or 2psi set in 1st.

Interesting. And I do love the idea. Congrats on what seems to be a great product!

That makes sense, but I was wondering if it was possible to switch when the BBG begins to “phase in” again. The firmware v6 update says “fixed bug so BBG now begins to phase in at 70% throttle.”

Just curious if you, or the user can change the “phase in” to begin at 90% or WOT throttle position instead?

There is new firmware update out??

Firmware updates are always posted to the same spot, it's pretty easy to check. ;)

No that aspect isn't user adjustable, currently. But having it so high would make the feature work poorly IMHO.

my quesiton was are you coming with a update soon?

Thanks for the update and understood. You would know best and I trust your humble opinion.

I simply asked so BBG wouldn’t engage halfway through the gear while just rolling onto the throttle. On test runs we noticed full +5psi boost initially, then it suddenly drops the -4psi when BBG activates and falls on its face until shifting. This just makes aggressive daily driving difficult to modulate the BBG. For this reason we thought it would be ideal if we could only activate BBG at WOT for “Launch Control” or dead stop power braking launches when needed.

However I feel like I jinxed my buddy’s Stinger, as he now get the “boost bombs” since he updated to v6 firmware. He never changed the “Future use D” settings, but now his target boost will gradually increase while rolling onto the throttle but then it suddenly jumps to max boost at about 50% throttle. He no longer has a smooth progression of boost up to full throttle.

Any ideas? Or suggestions to catch this on a log? Would it be worth rolling back to firmware v5 to see if that helps?

Love the BBG feature and works great with launch control, but seems like v6 firmware oddly altered boost by throttle settings or something that we just can’t figure out. Any input is appreciated and thanks in advance for all your wisdom!

For any tuning advice I'd need a log of the specific issue. Just record a log of what you're feeling behind the wheel I'll figure out the best way to resolve it. :)

Just ordered my JB4, this thing better be the bees knees!

I’m looking forward to the part throttle increase and WOT!

I’ll still need to get the fuel wires and Bluetooth. I’m hoping there’s a Black Friday deal coming

You won’t be disappointed! I’ve used just the JB4 with wires in a low Mal setting and my intake. I run steady 12.4s.

Perfect! Consistent 12.5s will work for me.

@Terry@BMS, how do you switch tunes or perform updates on the base unit? Or must you but the connect kit?

I was going to hold off on that purchase....at 140.00.

Will the base unit purchase also allow me to run data logs?
