be careful with the polish route as you are just taking off the outer surface. I believe the trim is similar to how they make black chrome or dark stainless (you're not polishing real metal). Other people have posted on here about compounds rubbing off the darker film on the outside and not liking the results.

Agree , start mild with Cleaner Wax before using something that can damage the surface if not properly applied

Iam gonna try the chemical guys light metal polish and see how it goes.I will try a small amount in a small spot and go from there....Thanks all for helping me.

It probably doesn't matter. Indications are that it is stainless steel. Can polish it as much as you care to.

Same issue on my 2019. Asked about it at the dealership during my recall and they said it’s not covered because it’s a chemical burn. Was bummed out about it so I did what people recommended doing, which was use Flitz metal polish. It worked, but now the trim is lighter than the original. Now I have to even it all out. FML...

Had a similar issue, until I went higher up the chain. If they ask any questions simply state you wash your car with water only. No chemicals. They spewed chemical etching, acid rain, the whole nine yards.

I just stated this car hasn't even broke 10k miles this is premature wear. Furthermore, I don't wanna hear any excuses of oh you hit 10k its out of factory warranty or Yada thats a bunch of bs.

Yeah, that's why I stopped with the one spot. I see it. But I'm not ready to go over my entire trim and make it match a spot! Seriously.

I relapsed in this determination and went over all six pieces, a couple of times now. At least they look more or less even in finish darkness (all somewhat lighter than stock). I've noticed that (aside from my original two "hard water spots") that the discoloration happens where passengers tend to touch the door to close it, i.e., up high at the rear corner. Over time, skin oils must interact with the clear coat. Other than that, my door/hatch trim has not discolored.
