Brake pad deciphering

Here's what it looks like removed, if you were wondering. (this is the front, but tabs are similar)

Thanks for the picture Bro!
Do you have any idea what those taps marked “L” and “R” do?
I don’t see those on Brembos for any other car. Even the replacement pads that the original poster
referenced from the EVO don’t have them. Maybe they aren’t needed?

Someone posted 58302J5A55 as the euro rears...turns out to be Hyundai pad numbers...wonder if these are the rears in europe / g70...cent find that part # on any kia site

I am using this brake and run perfectly for a while.
Raybestos ST43 Front Brake Pads for EVO 6/7/8/9/10
This pads are ideal for track and fast road use

Thank you for sharing that info, I installed my stoptech Evo 8 pads today that I paid $70 for on Amazon and they are working nicely so far. I Wish a certain vendor on here would have shared that info about Evo pads working sooner.

Anyways I decided to do a bed in of the OEM pads before swapping out to the stop techs, I wanted my braking system to be vibration free before installing these. And it was and all is well now, same OEM rotors, did not have them resurfaced, just an extra aggressive bed in with new pads followed by 5 min driving cooling cycle.

Just wanted to give an update now that the stop techs have bed in, they work very nice. A bit more dust than oem but I don't care about that....no more vibration was my goal.
The initial bite is surprisingly a tad less than OEM, however pedal modulation feels more linear towards abs activation.

I like them.

I missed this thread. I "subscribe" to all brake threads. One of these days, I will upgrade to more track spec brake pads (first) and rotors.

The tabs provides extra mass to alter the natural frequency of vibration/noise. Brembo brakes on older Camaro SS have this feature too. I have entertained the idea of having them removed for weight reduction and clearance reasons.

100% Correct
they are weights that help reduce noise.

So I have new rotors waiting on me at the dealer and I haven't made an appointment to get them put on and have the rear diff looked at until I was able to find new pads.

I'd like to be a little more certain before I buy EVO pads. Are the pads ones that merely fit and "work" or are we certain that the EVO pads are a direct fit for the Stinger calipers? When I cross-reference the pads for the EVO with the Stinger on this site ( Automotive and Truck Search ) , they do not match. This is the only site that I have seen that even lists brake pads for the Stinger GT other than business that created a thread here on the forum (Khartunerz or something like that).

I'd really like to get this done and would appreciate any input from those who have done the pad change. It would be helpful to cross-reference pad numbers from those who have them.

Is the Stinger the only car that uses this Brembo caliper?

If not,

I would highly doubt that the stock pads are of different dimensions than the pads that are used in that caliper used on other cars. I would bet that Brembo caliper is used in other applications that are installed on other cars. The pads are probably designed for the caliper which in this case is in our stingers.

Looks to me like this APC site makes these two brands of pads, am I correct in this? I looked at the about tab/company history and they list the brands they market and EBC is not one of the brands.

That being said are you opposed to using Centric or Stoptech? I have heard good things about both.

I think that it is entirely feasible that other cars use "our" Stinger Brembo calipers, I just don't know which ones do. Some have suggested that the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6/7/8/9/10 calipers are the same. If it were this simple, then I don't understand why almost NOBODY has brake pads listed for the Stinger GT. It seems crazy to me. Since no one has listed them does that mean that there are Kia specific things (backing plate, weights, etc.) that aren't on these pads?

I am not opposed to using pads such as Centric or Stoptech provided that they were designed for the Stinger's calipers specifically. I just don't know that they were. However, if the calipers are same as on another car, why not positively confirm this and have the full range of pads for that caliper to choose from?

Very simple answer imho, demand! Kia only sells 1000-1500 of these a montH for less than 2 years. I just don't think they are seeing the demand to bother with it yet. Again, the question is are these calipers designed for the Stinger exclusively or are they calipers used on some other cars as well. I would bet these are on the Genesis cars that have Brembos as well.

You answered your own question about the Centric and Stoptech pads when they are listed for our car specifically.

I have a set of Girodisc pads I have not installed yet. I looked at the Girodisc site and they are the same part number that is listed for Evo, Mustangs and Camaros. This would tend to make me believe this caliper is used on several cars and hence the pads work on our car too, same caliper.

Did some more research on some other sites and it seems that WRX STI, EVO, Some Camaros with Brembo, Mustangs with Brembo and Audi TT RS models use the same brake pads. Stoptech and Girodisc list the same part numbers for these cars. I bet they all use the same caliper and rotors that are very close to the same diameter.

I would bet you will start seeing them for the Stinger once more are on the road and have higher mileage so pads are needed. To new and rare right now.

Now if we can just get all the pad manufacturers to officially acknowledge this by list front pads for the Stinger GT.

Did anyone ever find a cross-reference for the rear pads? I'm getting "back ordered" from every local dealer and online dealers which make me worry. Surely Kia did not ask Brembo for a unique brake system. These rear rotors have to come from SOMETHING!

Hi, @Drakkon.ri and welcome. Wouldn't the "back ordered" universally be sellers waiting on a promised item or items that the supplier is getting ready? You can't have "back ordered" on something that doesn't actually exist.

(are you in Rhode Island? In any case, please put your location in your member profile)

I will update my profile. Thanks. What worries me is I need to new pads *today*but every local dealer and two online dealers cannot send them because they are 'back ordered' which makes me wonder how many are even in America and if now, how long it will be.
