BMS TCU!

Just picked up the BMS BEF e85 ign19 no burble and BMS alpha TCU. Holy balls! I concur with many on this post. Sport mode is a beast and comfort is…well comforting. Lol very smooth shifts. Fully endorse BMS products. now I just need to pick up a Fuel-it kit . Any for sale?

Are all bms alpha tcu tune's shift early ? i see alot of them on sxth website.

I recently installed the BMS TCU tune myself, and highly recommend it. Gear shifts are firm, downshifts are smooth and not jerky at all. Car feels more sporty now which is great. Also, unlike the lozic tcu tune I have driven in, comfort mode is basically unaffected so you can enjoy easy driving when that's what you want. Love that!

Off the shelf the shift points are optimized for running a piggyback like jb4 where the boost levels tapers off in the higher rpms, specifically in the first 1-3 gear changes. For the higher gears for 60-130 mph runs its not as prominent. Anyways if you are running a flash ecu tun you might want to ask Terry to adjust this for you.

As for the BMS tcu tune launch control, it's decent (way better than the oem LC obviously as you now can actually build boost holding brake) however if you are not careful there is a good chance the safety nannies in the transmission (which this tune does NOT fully disable) will kick in and spoil the fun, cutting off power to avoid transmission damage, resulting in a mediocre launch. It's a bit tricky and takes practice to get right and launch consistently.

Just like most other tcu tunes It doesn't hold a candle to the brake snip mod for launches from a dig that's for sure.
Can you walk through your LC process after practicing with it? Thanks

Hi. I have done my TCU tune locally, but now I want to try BMS tune. Is it possible to read and save my current TCU if I want to go back to it with EK1?

Can you show data log using the bms bef e85 ? just purchased the alpha tcu tune and love it currently running lap 3 1.5 tune just wanted to compare data logs see if worth purchasing the bef e85 ign19 tune.

Thank you !
Hope it helps. It wasn’t my usual run. Just had a nice clean shot of road so… had to get on it a bit. :)

Anybody launched the car yet ? What is the good rpm ? How much boost you building?

Inquiring minds want to know...

The BMS tcu tune allows you to build boost while holding brake from a stop so it makes a huge difference usually stock launch control which is trash.

I usually launch at around 2k-2.2k rpm. (For reference my stinger is the GT2 AWD 3.3t V6)

Trac/stability control OFF
On Sport mode
Foot on brake, rev to desired rpm (for me it's around 2krpm but you should test and see what works best for you)
Release brake pedal and floor gas
(DO NOT continue to hold the gas pedal at the desired rpm with foot on brake as that will cause significant stress on your transmission. You should rev quickly to the desired rpm and go)
Ideally you want to launch with enough boost to break traction so your tires "chirping" as you launch but not too much boost that you are excessively spinning the tires which will hurt your times and possibly damage your drivetrain

FYI BMS tune also modifies shift points to around 5.5k on upshift, which improves 0-60 and 1/4 times (allowing engine to spin all the way to redline actually results in slower times)

So here are some of my times (verified via dragy)

Before BMS tcu tune
Personal best 0-60 4.56 , 1/4 mile 12.89

After BMS tcu tune
Personal best 0-60 4.12 1/4 mile 12.53

It takes practice but just don't go crazy and abuse your transmission / transfer case/ rear diff. Don't launch your car just after starting it up. Drive it a bit until its warmed/lubed up to operating temps

Do your hard launches spin the rears, or the fronts too? If just the rears, I'd be curious what the limiting factor on the fronts is: car's willingness to fully lock the transfer case (I don't know if this is a signal BMS can manipulate?), transfer case's torque handling ability before slipping, or heat generated in the transfer case...

I would think that if you aren't running slicks or big drag radials, you should be able to do an AWD burnout before breaking any hardware, unless the car won't/can't send enough torque forward, but maybe I'm wrong here.

I break traction on all 4 wheels when i launch, but I feel like the rears spin more. It is likely because there is a 20-80 front/rear power percentage bias in "sport" mode. There are a few guys that swear launching in normal mode works better because 50-50 power split is more desirable to optimize traction. It is probably because they are running more boost and have issues putting power down to the ground but I am basically stock at the moment so I don't have that issue

You have to test both out and experiment what works best for you.

It makes sense that the rears would spin more since it's a RWD-based system: all torque has to go straight to the rear by default, with some portion sent forward.

But I think the 80-20 vs. 50-50 distinction is just a way of describing how aggressively the transfer case clutches engage, since if the rears are spinning you either lock the clutch pack and get far more than 20/50% up front (since the rears are transmitting close to zero torque), or the fronts are useless.

Spinning all four wheels is encouraging since it means the car can lock up enough to send a decent amount of torque forward.

Did you use 3rd gear boost reduction and if so were you able to launch without wheel spin? At what RPM did you let it fly?
Did you figure out what settings work with the BMS TCU

Anyone know if they've developed the BMS TCU tune for the 2.5T yet ? The 2.5T is now in the G70 and others, will be around for years to come....

Are you actually seeing boost when doing the launch control? My car holds higher rpm when doing the launch with the BMS TCU but the boost is still 0 on both the JB4 and the meth boost gauge.

I think it just ramps up the boost during launch. See the log from Terry. I don't think it builds boost. Maybe if 3rd gear redux is set to 0 it may.

I tried today with 3rd gear redux @ 5 and it was decent. Will be better with stickys or lower tire psi but I'm rwd.
