What’s the best octane to run for JB4 Map3 and Map5? I plan on mixing 5g E85 and 11g 91 (93 is unavailable) which is about E30 and 94 octane. Better to add more E85?

Depends on what version firmware you are running. If it’s v15 or newer don’t use map 5 on e30. Map 3 will be fine tho. Not sure there is a noticed difference in the maps you are thinking of tho. The 6 psi map with taper and 7 psi map with taper I think were only a few hp different. I’m sure the 7 psi with no taper map makes a little more power but I was always having fuel pressure issues on that map when running e30. Straight race gas was the ticket for that one. I’d just stick to map 3 with e30 until you learn how to read and evaluate what is happening in your logs.

I use the same map And fuel every pass I make at a drag strip and yet I always stop afterwards and look at the log. Even when something is working right it’s worth checking on it constantly to make sure nothing is starting to go wrong

For E30 you should be fine on map3 and can explore map4 on v15+ firmware.

Why is map 5 no longer recommend for e30?

Everything got remapped (probably for more logical sequencing) in v15+. Note: map4 used to be valet, which doesn't make any sense to "explore" with E30.

Summarizing the new layout from here: Kia & Hyundai JB4 - Page 126 - N54Tech.com - International Turbo Racing Discussion and the original map descriptions..
(hope I got it right, user beware)

old -> new
map0 -> map0 (0 psi = stock)
map1 -> map1 (+4 psi -> +2.5 psi, 91 octane)
map2 -> map2 (+5 psi -> +4 psi, 93 octane)
map3 -> map3 (+6 psi -> +5 psi, > 93 octane, E30, etc)
map5 -> map4 (+7 psi -> +5(6?) psi, up to E30)
map7 -> map5 (+7 psi stock, but without taper - use at your own risk with E85 due to fuel crash)
map6 -> map6 (user adjustable boost map, usually for those spinning on RWD in 1st)
map8 -> map7 (wmi/meth, also probably E85 + CPI)
map4 -> map8 (valet)

Awesome thank you. I was referring to the old firmware. Looks like I’ll be trying both Map3 and map4 with e30.

Then stick with what terry said. 3 and 4 should be perfectly fine on e30. Just watch your fuel pressure, timing, and afr. If they start changing or you notice the car act funny send your logs in for bms to evaluate

If you wanna move from Map3 to map6 hit me up,

So I finally got around to e30 on Map3. It ran great for 10-20 miles and is now sputtering with acceleration. CEL came on with no codes. Turned the car off and CEL is gone. Still sputtering on all maps. I’m guessing it’s the plugs but could be wrong. I have the Denso 5346 gapped to 0.022.

Pull the battery and see if it goes away.

what map should I use (e30,aem, ark secondary downpipe, borla catback)

I am also wondering a similar question. Using 94 octane base fuel + BOOSTane mixture that should bring it up to at least 98, I'm wondering if this is enough on its own to use Map3. Don't have access to Ethanol fuel.

Probably - but search for various people from Canada reporting that some 94s are more like 90-91 in behavior, and some other 91s are better..

Ah, the never-ending debate of Petro-Canada 94 vs Shell 91. I've searched about it prior, the consensus seems to be "Shell V-Power 91 for better mileage, Petro-Canada 94 for better power".

I haven't done so yet, but my plan is to add ~8 oz of BOOSTane to a 60L tank (~15.85 gal) which according to BOOSTane's charts, should raise it to ~100. If I go with 91 instead, then it would mean ~97, which I'm also wondering if it is good enough for map3...

So I'm new to this stuff..... what exactly is e30? Just a mixture of e85 and premium(93)?
