The article proposes a problem that doesn't exist, because his solutions are already available: get rid of your car by moving to where it isn't necessary or desirable. Anyone can do that. Cities that attract residents will cater to this "movement", by making their public transportation invisible, i.e., walk on, walk off without waiting around or suffering compression amongst humankind, etc.

The rest of us who loathe the very idea of metro living, stacked higher and deeper, will keep our cars.

It isn't about efficiency either, it is about enthusiasm: I actually enjoy running errands when I have a car that is FUN to drive.

Less and less people are able to think outside of their bubble, or see beyond their tunnel vision.

I only see an object for its function, with no enjoyment involved .... thus everyone else should feel that same way.
This particular type of thing fits my particular needs ...... thus this is what everyone should be required to use

Fossil fuel = bad, electric = good. Thus lets fire-ready-aim it with zero regard to its own environmental impact, its own natural resource limitations, or the limitations of current infrastructure.

Own nothing and be happy. Agenda 21

Chicago has a large mass transit system. Only issue is you'll likely get robbed or killed traveling on it.

What about those that live in rural areas.....

That article is from microsoft, so of course it's view is skewed.

It's a Jalopnik article. This is what I mean about people pigeon holing what they see/find on the internet.

The article is tl;dr

The idea of reducing personal vehicles isn't new or unique to the US. The growth of the highway system, historically low fuel costs, and the average American's level of entitlement have all culminated into a nice mess of issues. The infrastructure costs to maintain all the roads we have is becoming, by itself, a boat anchor on the very idea of 'freedom'. We're already grossly behind on road and bridge maintenance, and the worse condition they get the more expensive to repair. Our species is self destructive, selfish, and has no concept of planning past the couple days ahead. Enjoy the creature comforts while they last. Also, don't complain when the bill comes due to fix all these things you take for granted.

Say no to democracy. It is realy a parasitic system that can only lead to chaos and destruction. Going back to Constitutional republic can save lot more than roads.

I can tell you that Vienna (recently re-voted the world's most liveable city) is VERY unfriendly to cars. It's almost impossible to park in the city centre and even when you can do it it's insanely expensive. There are speed cameras everywhere and if you break any rule there is a roughly 99% chance you'll get a fine.
However, I absolutely love it. You can easily move around with electric trotinettes (small scooters) much faster than with cars. You also have a yearly pass for all public transportation that costs 1 eur/day for when you need to go over longer distances.
As long as you have a place to keep your car for when you actually need to use it, it's a great formula!

In Bucharest I also keep my car in my underground garage and walk to my office or use an electric trotinette. If I have a couple of beers I take an uber or the underground.

I think all big cities should do this. Make the city centres totally pedestrian friendly and keep cars only for inter-city travel.
At least in Europe cars really don't make sense inside cities.

Supreme Court is on fire!!! LOVE IT!

Its a massive decades old psi-op on the hand of communism at large aimed to destablize and demoralize the United States as well as diminish faith in the institution itself. Those who started this would be elated to see just how successful it has been. Generational demorilization.

(Began around the late 50's and affected those college cats from the 60's. Now those are the ones in all positions of power.)

There is alot to read on this statement.

I can ramble alot hehehe also im not gonna die on that hill feel free to send counter points.

I feel like we're lucky and one of the last generations to be able to enjoy sporty and fun to drive cars before autonomous driving electric cars with speed limiters takeover.

I hope im dead before this whole autonomous vehicle crap becomes mainstream.

Between the woke movement and EV (and some other social issues), society is well on its way to hell.

What a cluster this weekend was.

Chicago - 71 shot, 8 fatal - Chicago shootings: 71 shot, 8 killed in 4th of July weekend violence, CPD says

Suburbs - mad gunman open fires on jul 4th parade. - 31 shot, 6 fatal - Highland Park parade shooting: Witnesses describe chaos after 6 killed, 31 injured

Mind you, highland pk has some of the strictest gun laws around. As a result of that shooting, most of the surrounding suburbs cancelled their parades and fireworks shows.

No, we don't need more mental health care! There was plenty of warning signs on this kid's social media page... platforms paid little attention to it.

Stricter gun laws only protect CRIMINALS and actually endanger more honest, law-abiding citizens.

If LAWs actually worked, we could make it against the law to shoot people . . . Oh.... that was already done. Nevertheless, you are still more likely to be killed by a medical provider than some "crazy" with a gun.

Gun restricting laws have the same effect on crime, as a welfare system on poverty.
