Ive been reading the forums and posts of members using heat guns to loosen the factory adhesive. I didn’t use one on my car nor do I recommend it for the novice. You can remove the badge and the adhesive without heat gun it just requires a little elbow grease and some Rapid Remover. RR is a solvent that we use when removing vinyl art or lettering from vehicles. It dissolves the glue and does nothing to paint. It takes a little work but saves a trip to body shop, unless you have a defect to begin with. JMO

It's surely not "necessary", CAN be "helpful", but can also be bad if you use it too much, too hot, for too long. There's definitely a balance - but you can get the badge off without using it...

Use the power of steam. Using a steam machine or even a steam mop will give you the heat you need to help loosen the adhesive without damaging your paint with 500plus Degrees of heat. Use a microfiber cloth to cover the end of the steam machine or mop. Put it right against the emblem. Will not get hot enough to damage the coatings or the paint itself.

Yes, you don't need a heat gun. In fact: never use one, they are way to hot (unless held at quite some distance, but I don't want to suggest that to people). If anything, use a hairdrier on a low setting to softly warm up the emblem, but always only ever warm, never hot .. you should always be able to touch the entire thing without getting burnt. That does help softening the glue/adhesive below. And then gently and patiently get it off with a fishing line. Do not tilt the thing by working with a screwdriver against the cars surface, or you might leave some deep scratches.
