This is driving me nuts.. if the car is in accessory mode audio is working fine.. but when I'm driving the car and listening to music via CarPlay the audio has been dropping out randomly since upgrading to iOS 18.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Mine has nothing to do with iOS 18 and everything to do with a crappy CarPlay experience. Siri thinks I want to ask it questions randomly so my music is frequently interrupted. The CarPlay screen cycles between modes randomly. Thankfully, I've been able to just use BlueTooth audio to listen to my iTunes music and run Maps off my phone. It works perfectly. If I try to use my car's navigation, it will eventually move into cross-country mode and beep continuously. It's not iOS.

As of yesterday my new iPhone 16 will not work with my ‘22 GT2. It recognizes CarPlay for 3 seconds, screen goes black, then it recognizes again. I have tried multiple cords. This was working fine on Monday. IOS 18. I’m going to update to 18.1 and will report back.

Is it a momentary drop out and you here pops and a hiss or a complete drop out? Just curious as I have that problem with android auto and
I am thinking it could be coil packs leaking voltage. When I listen to the audio without it running it is fine. When I drive it I have this problem.

Update: I realized last night that my VPN had been left on since Tuesday, and when I turned that off, CarPlay worked. I did update to 18.1 and turned my VPN on/off just now in the car and that interrupted the CarPlay still. Note to self!

Good find, I suspect several people suffer from this same self-inflicted connection issue.

After much research I think you are EXACTLY right.. it's the coil packs. And since my car was built they have 'upgraded' them. So I'll be installing new coil packs very soon. Fingers crossed...!

So.. I'm back.. and I'm happy to report that after much contortion and not having quite-the-right length extension bar that I replaced all of the ignition coils and the audio dropouts have stopped...

Now to tell you why I'm really p*ssed off with my dealership... I had this car in about two months ago for a service and asked them to replace the spark plugs while they were doing the service. I brought them the plugs I needed installed (rather than the KIA part). That means removing and reinstalling the ignition coils, right?

Well, I know they replaced the plugs with what I asked for (because I got the old parts back) but what I have now realized is that they knew the coils needed replacement but didn't call me to have me do it. How do I know?

Because two of them fell apart when I removed them. And upon closer inspection one had lithium grease in the inside of top of the coil. I'm presuming they thought this would help maintain spark...? I thought perhaps it was what I did to remove them however one of the coils came apart (bottom part going into the engine housing from the top) as soon as I removed the bolt from it.

Either way I thought I could trust this dealership (at least so I have nothing to worry about for warranty work). But clearly they are too incompetent for me to consider them for anything other than my free oil change.. and even then I will have my reservations...

Lololol.
Trust the dealership!
Just watch the video in that linked post...

Trust
Yea yea yea.. perhaps trust was too strong a word... perhaps I should have said "I didn't think they were THIS incompetent but clearly I was wrong"...!
