At (Long) Last ...US Official Pricing

Hi all Richard from Australia calling. We had the same issues as you are going through before we got our cars. The dealers had no idea of what was in the car until they arrived. I know it’s frustrating but you will just have to wait and see what it comes with. I know we can get the dark gray in the lower spec car but not the GT in Aus. You might find that the other options you are after might be available as additional options. We got a similar web site that had the cars details a couple of months before the cars arrived and there were areas of the cars specs that were left out and the colour options were different. At least you guys got the all wheel drive option. Also noticed that you get an option for a grey leather interior but it’s not Napa leather. I know this isn’t a great help but believe me once you drive a stinger you won’t be disappointed. Also just noticed that the PDF with pricing only give details for the stinger and stinger premium not the GT. I think you might find that some of this PDF is missing guys.

Richard again just showing a small pic of the Aussie spec sheet showing the difference between models. Notice that the 360o camera is only on our top spec GT. I really think the info at the start of this post is missing the other models because there is a ton of other specs missing. Hope this helps calm the nerves.

Thanks for the reassurance, Richard. You've convinced me in earlier posts that I'm going to love this car. I'm just a little ticked off that Kia reps went out of their ways to convince me to love a feature that appears to have disappeared from the car. Yes, pages are missing from the PDF, but surround view wasn't mentioned in a big promotional presentation today, either--just rear view. We'll see. If need be, that is if surround view isn't available, I'll just wrap the pole in the middle of my garage and the metal storage racks with layers of bubble wrap. I've tried making myself feel better by reminding myself that only the top trim of the Audi S5 Sportback seems to have a "top view" cam, and it's waaay more money than I will spend. And it looks like the Buick (Holden?) GS only will have rear view, too. So it wouldn't be out of line for the Stinger--except that it's available outside the U.S.

Thanks for the words of encouragement for us yanks.

But here is the (updated as of 14NOV2017) "features and options" list for the US that I posted previously in the thread:

https://www.kiamedia.com/us/en/download/13120/file/xlsx

No 360 degree camera, wireless charging or heated rear seats for any trim in the US.

You maybe right but who knows. We missed out on the heated rear seats and the steering wheel. My daughter was really pissed about the rear seats. I don’t use the charger but the 360 camera is cool. But happy to swap for the AWD parts if your interested. Plus guaranteed someone will have a after market part within 12 months. I also checked out the Uk Kia site and they have fewer colours and miss out on the deep croma blue. But there GT comes with every bloody thing. Are you guys getting a spear wheel or a compressor kit?

I think the removal of the heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and AWD was likely based on climate-driven take rates for those options. Not fair, but makes a little more sense than what is happening in the US.

For me it is not just content. It is cost plus content. Going aftermarket just adds cost and may impact warranty. I can't "unknow" what Kia Canada is doing...........

Yeah, going aftermarket is something I wouldn't even consider. So what are you planning to do? Are you going to get one? I'm really considering waiting a year to see if they get their stuff together next year. My lease is up in June, but maybe I can go month to month until the 2019s come out.

We're getting the compact spare, but it was news to my dealer yesterday. (At least I got paid to teach teenagers; we all deserve a check from Kia for educating their sales force!) To be honest, this was one of the first things that drew me to the Stinger, as I'm totally old school--no run flats, no inflation kit for me!

I may sound like "Negative Nancy" with my resent postings but I can't imagine anyone is happy that the car costs more than 50k and seemingly lost options for the US market. I have no evidence (based on previous releases of Kia models) that the 2019 will add in more content. If sales flounder, then maybe.

I had always intended to wait for the G70 before I decided. If I am being honest, had we gotten Canada pricing and content, I probably would not have waited. But since I got a de-contenting surprise, I will hold to my waiting period.

The G80 Sport AWD costs $58,725. The AWD Stinger GT2 is $52,300. I can't imagine the G70 being much more than the Stinger as it can't get too close to the price of the G80 sport. If I get the 360 degree camera, wireless charging and rear heated seats back (all standard on the G80 Sport) plus my three years free maintenance, dealer drop off/pick up, remote/Alexa start, etc. I might forego the extra rear room and hatch. So I stand on the fence until the G70 comes out.

Not to mention the fact that the G70 looks to have a nicer interior and is lighter and faster..

Bamm1, +1. The Stinger is looking more and more compromised and deviating from what we all have been led to believe. This was a golden opportunity for Kia to bring forth a world class car with global feature list and with price parity. That would have given them a great start in building the Stinger brand. Instead, they chose to segment the markets in pricing and feature list. Too bad.

I still believe it's the right car for me (actually the only one that even comes close to my needs and desires), despite the recent compromises. I wouldn't have missed surround view (or even known I wanted it) if a Kia employee hadn't made a special effort to demonstrate to me why I needed it. Really bad move on their part to have poorly trained and mis-informed employees and agents who cause the kinds of feelings we're expressing right now.

the hatch
Stinger has ticked almost all boxes for me. Being a RWD or RWD biased AWD high performance with proven driving dynamics, and driving smaller than its size and weight, on top of all that, it did have me at “the hatch”. Actually, I like the fact it’s a non-luxury brand. I loved the utility factor but didn’t want a floaty ride height of an SUV. I almost bought a certified pre-owned 4 series Gran Coupe. With very short warranty remaining and looming high maintenance/repair cost I decided against it. I was only waiting for the right RWD sporty hatch then they announced this car. If it was a sedan then I’d still be waiting.

Yeah, you've got a point. The G70 probably will be priced around the same as the AWD or within a couple thousand is my guess. I really wanted more space in the back. I would hate to wait until late 2018 and find that the 2019 version has the same problems.

Yeah, I have to agree with this.

I can understand that. I still love the car, even more than the G70. It's just hard for me to swallow that lower models such as the Optima have these features and the Stinger won't. I mean you're paying close to 20k more (GT2) and not even getting all the features their family car has. IF they weren't available in other markets, I could probably overlook that as well. However, they charge us more than they charge these other markets and on ON TOP OF that, screw us over on color choices, as well. It's making me angry just typing it out lol. Do I really need wireless charging? Nah, cause my phone will be plugged up for Android Auto. Do I need heated rear seats? Nah. I don't really care if my 6yo and 8yo's seats are warm lol. They don't ride with me for long distances either because then we take my wife's SUV. Plus, I live in the southern part of the US. However, my 2015 Optima EX has it. Not even the SX, the EX. As for the 360 surround view cam, I've made it this far without it because they didn't have it as an option in 2015. Once again though, it's just the principle of the matter to me. Even with all this griping and complaining I'm doing, I might end up caving. We'll see though. I'm just not happy with Kia right now, especially since all these dealers kept saying oh yeah it'll definitely have it.

I had 5 different non negotiable items on paper when I pre-ordered. One of them is the 360 surround view cams ...I might just go pick up my deposit back and wait until this feature is available. However, with most recent reviews especially Alex from Alex on Autos he said this might be the car for him, ....it’s just too tempting.

I'm still in, but barely. I'm one of the few around here interested int he 2.0T. I was hoping the base model would get more features, and I think the Premium is too big of a jump price-wise. I'm not sure what to do. I don't mind the 31k, but I wish there was a few more features.

Stinger looks more unique than the G70. Interior wise, yes the G70 is a more luxurious and the de-contenting widens the gap more, but I like the unique round vents better than the more conservative plain vents of the G70.

They really missed a great opportunity though. They probably could've gotten away with the price of the GT2 if they didn't cut features on it. If they had just offered the colors and features (like 360) most people who were looking in that range would've stretched to get it. I guess ignorance is indeed bliss. If folks didn't know that people in other places were getting these features, then maybe there wouldn't be as much disappointment.

However, since they are cutting features and aren't going to offer either of the colors that I feel are most luxurious, I guess I'll remain non-committal and keep waiting for something.

Maybe I'll just buy one overseas and ship it over. Can't believe some of the stuff they are doing here...

If only it was that simple. Lol
